Charlie and I tried becoming vegetarian years ago, but there weren't so many good products around then and we added cheese to everything and gained weight.
We still eat a lot of beans and grains though. DB

Hi Dustbunny
I know you posted this a while ago but I was wondering about Quinoa. I have seen it quite a bit in healty cooking ideas and I just saw it at Costco. I thought about getting it but did not know if it was a good option for the banded. Is it something that gets stuck easy?

I could never go full vegetarian. I enjoy meat too much but I do like some vegetarian dishes. I buy black bean burgers now and then. I do buy Soy Slender chocolate soy milk for my morning shakes or to make a cup of sugar free cocoa for a snack. It gives me a little boost. I love making vegetable soups and usually add kidney or black beans depending on the kind of soup. I would just miss meat too much I think.

I've never gotten stuck on quinoa Brandy, I used to eat it with spaghetti sauce, it was a relief to find something plant based with protein in it. I think it might be good used like the noodles in casseroles or like rice in a lot of rice dishes. It doesn't have a big taste of it's own, so experiment.

Christie I do add some hemp protein to my green smoothies once in a while and add seeds and nuts to salads. My green smoothies are based on cucumbers and celery with some kale or other greens, and hemp protein has a flavor that i don't enjoy unless I make it savory like a bloody mary taste.

Cori I don't think being a vegetarian is for everyone and I don't think there is anything wrong with eating meat. Bacon was my favorite food. I just want to get rid of diabetes more than anything I could possibly eat. Now that I'm eating this way i feel so good.
Wilson, I didn't realize that it was discussed in the Bible. interesting.
Hey Bunnygirl!
Greg any talk of food used to make me crave it. Go have some steak and enjoy it, add some veggies too! DB

I never knew that about the processing protein thing. That's very interesting. Do you have a link to a site that explains that process? I'm very curious.

Last night I made a crock pot roast and I have to say, I found it disgusting. Not impressed. I'd rather eat steamed asparagus all night. But I ate it anyway, for the protein.

Do you do soy protein? There are some really good vegan proteins out there. Soy upsets my stomach so I do whey, but lots of people really love their soy protein.

I could see becoming a vegetarian...right after I divorce my husband. ;-p

I feel nosey adding my 2 cent when i'm not banded but i grew up on Loma Linda vegetarian foods they have hot dog substitutes, swiss steaks in gravy, breakfast sausage, chili, Chicken patties to name a few, you have to order them on line through Amazon. Morning star is a great Company too, their vege products have great flavor straight from the box, in the freezer section of any grocery store. Just some suggestions for other options.

I love most vegetarian dishes. However, most of those pre-packaged, frozen, fake meat dishes have a lot of milk, cheese or cream in them. I can't handle those. I try to enjoy vegetarian dishes often...I just leave out the milk products. It is interesting to read how you're doing on this vegan way. Keep posting.... & Thanx for all the info.

Christie:
I don't have a web site for you,I got it from books by David Wolf and Gabriel Cousins.
No I don't use soy products, they aren't allowed on the plan I am following to get rid of diabetes. I never really cared much for tofu, i'm a soy failure.
Mstwash:
I don't use the like meat products. I know I'm eating veggies, regular veggies are good to eat. I do enjoy some of the gourmet vegan dishes, they are wonderful, but really involved recipies to make. So I eat pretty plainly most of the time, green smoothies, soups and salads. But there's a really good restaurant here, where I get some really yummy dishes, and I make something special once or twice a week.
My husband eats meat as do my sons. They are all eating more raw, and after finding out he has heart disease last week I expect Charlie will be eating a lot more veggies.
