I'm going to try that black bean burger - 11 grams of protein in each! I made myself a stew, substituting garbanzo beans for the beef, and using homemade vegetable stock, and it was wonderful. I'm making vegetable tempura for dinner tomorrow night, that should be delicious. I am trying out soy milk, and bought some lentils to incorporate into some recipes (it is supposed to freeze well after cooking). I truly love the fresh food taste again - it's amazing how preservatives and additives really do alter the taste of food. I've got a vegetable garden planned for this spring, and am looking forward to vine-ripened organic tomatoes!

I tried the gardening bit....but found I am aversive to getting my hands dirty....No actually, I hate bugs.... any kind of bugs, worms, etc. Just thinking of worms makes me shudder.....The idea of coming face to face with a slug can send me into a night of horrible dreams....(had some horrible experiences with worms and sluggs)

It's been a year since I posted here and my diet has really changed. I have gone from the standard American diet to completly raw vegan. I heard about Dr. Gabreil Cousens curing people of diabetes in 30 days. So after Thanksgiving on November 30th
I totally changed my diet. I am feeling great, more energy, clear thinking, just keeps getting better. I had gone up to 212 and after two months am down to 196 and am once again off insulin and still trying to get serious about an exercise routine.
The worry about protein is much less when you eat raw foods because your body is able to use all the protein you eat. With cooked foods you only are able to use 50% of the protein you eat. My hair is actually getting thicker now than it has been for the last two years.
I didn't do this because I have something against meat, I don't, I feel better without it, and wheat and milk products too. There are thousands of really great cookbooks for raw dishes. I intend to continue eating raw foods for the rest of my life.
If you are interested there are lots of webpages devoted to eating raw. Dr. Cousens book that I am folloeing is thr Rainbow Green Live Food Cusine.

hey dustbunny..i have incorporated tons more raw food into my diet. for instance i only eat fruit for breakfast. lots of different varieties. and for lunch salads of different kinds. i no longer eat meat during the day...i think with the band we get so stuck (no pun intended) on protein and meat consumption, we forget protein comes in many different food forms. and all that meat can clog the arteries. since i started going raw, i feel like another person. dr A and the conference is what got me thinking in that direction...i stopped all the milk..and got rid of cereal. then i thought well what can i eat for breakfast thats band friendly..fruit was it. smoothies or protein shakes. or raw soft fruit if im not too tight...depending on the time i eat breakfast. then lunch..if i cant eat bread..whats for lunch?! salad! i am trying all new different foods i never ate before...like radishes...and different lettuces..just to mix it up. anyway i love this thread! thanks!

Hi Kristina,
I took my last post here and copied it to a new thread:
i named it something like Dustbunny's trip Raw raw raw.
I'll update it from time to time. I am amazed with what can be done with raw veggies and how many different forms they can take. There is a great tool that I got on amazon fro about 30 dollars and you take 3 1/2 " sections of zucchini and put them in and crank the handle and you get zucchini pasta in noodles that are several feet long. it feels likke eating pasta. Whether you do a sauce thats raw and vegan, or put on the same cooked meat sauce you feed your family, you are doing something good for you. and saving lot's of calories too. I keep homemade pesto in the fridge and cut a zucchini or two and toss with pesto and tomato relish It takes all of three minutes to throw it together and I have fast food. Like anything planning ahead is key.

Do you plan to eat protein powder? Because to me, that would remain a critical component of being vegetarian/vegan. Vegan would be extremely difficult because it is so much more difficult to get protein without dairy and eggs. Just my .02. I totally understand not wanting to eat meat though.

If you read in the book of Daniel (Bible), you find where Daniel refused to eat the king's meat that was sacrificed to idols, and instead ate vegetables only. Later, his captors compared his physical condition to others that ate the meat and found him to be healthier.
