Well tomorrow marks my 2 year bandiversarry. As I sit here and reflect over the last 2 years, I remember how different my journey has been from that of most regular bandsters.
Everything started out just as normal for me as it did for probably most any bandster. I had a successful surgery and healed up nicely.
In January of 2005 just after the New Year I came down with a bad viral flu. From there it escalated into Pericarditis. I was sick until June of 2005 when I was prayed over and healed completely. (That's why I call myself a walking talking miracle.)
By November/December of 2005 I was feeling fantastic and ready to get my first fill. The only problem was that we were living without insurance of any kind.
Fastforward to February of this year. I was finally able to front the $400 to receive my very first fill ever, and it has been a huge success for me since then.
I happy to report that even though I started off slow, I have currently lost 78 pounds to date. At first I thought, 78 pounds in 2 years? That's nothing that great compared to what some of these other people have lost. But when I really sat here and thought about it in terms of only me, only my life, only where I was 2 years back - I was rejoicing.
One of my main goals was to have more energy to play with my son. I wanted to be able to get down on the floor and play with him and not have my knees hurt like they did at 320 pounds. I wanted to be alive to see him grow up and possibly be a grandma someday. While I'm not a grandma yet, I do have another miracle baby on the way, and I feel truly blessed to know that I will be able to play on the floor and have good energy for this child as well.
Words cannot express my extreme gratitude to my surgeon, her nurse, and the entire staff at Beaumont hospital. They made my new life possible for me, and the difference that I feel in quality of life is undescribable.
I encourage anyone who is thinking about making this life changing decision to do your research first, and then just go for it. Life is there on the other side of the door waiting for you to live it. All you have to do is step through that door today and begin to live, truly live!
God bless all of you, and thanks for letting me share my story. I know I'm not actively trying to lose weight right now, but it's nice to know that I still have a place to come to for support, and to be able to continue supporting others.
