The only symptoms i have is burning feeling in my throat that goes down to my belly button and my nose is blocked up. I am not throwing up, i can eat. Sometimes i have to take a break because it feels like the food is getting stuck. My fill was last Thursday and i started feeling this way yesterday. Can i take anything for the heartburn or reflux? I will definitely be at the doctors monday.

Hey Cindy, I recommend you calling your surgeon ASAP and having his office request something for the burning feeling. They may request something like otc prilosec - but have his office recommend it so it can be in your chart!
Another thing Ive tried is sipping on a glass of whole milk... it seems to sooth! A burning esophagus is NOT pleasent..

My surgeon has told me that if you are having reflux issues, then you are too tight. Perhaps even having a tiny sliver of an unfill will ease your symptoms.

Whatever you decide I'll cross my fingers for you.

Sounds like you are a tad too tight. Having a little as .2 cc's removed makes a huge difference but stil lwill leave you with restriction but take awya the reflux and burning. Call your Dr.

Okay, Cindy, looking for an update here...it's Monday! How are you feeling? What did your doc say?

Acid reflux is the number one symptom of being too tight. Acid reflux can damage your esophagus and lead to problems that could require your band to be unfilled.. or ever worse.. removed. Covering up the symptoms with acid reducers is NOT a good solution. If your band is too tight you could end up with a slipped band or, even worse, erosion!

Please, everyone.. if you are having reflux issues, get your tushies in to see the Dr. and get a slight unfill right away!

OK guys...I was having this problem and went for another unfill today. My throat is still burning though....Is it OK to get the prilosec since I already took care of the culprit?

It's always okay to temporarily treat reflux with an acid reducer until you can get to the doc, or until your unfill gives you relief. Acid reducers are great and wonderful, but not good for long-term treatment of reflux caused by a too-tight band that should be loosened. In other words, don't stay too tight and rely on a pill for relief.

Housecat, you may also grab some Berry-flavored Aloe Vera Juice at Wal Mart. Sip a few ounces of that a few times a day and it will help soothe your irritation. You did great getting the small unfill. Hang in there!

I agree with Kathy on the Aloe Vera juice. It's a nice natural alternative to Prilosec or any of the other acid reducers available. It'll heal your esophagus and stomach too, as well as providing the much needed relief from the burning sensation.

Paula...Thanks for the tip on the milk...i drank and it soothed the burning.

Kathy here is an update.....Monday i was fine ...i have no more burning. I cant eat in the morning but that is not unusual. I was very worried and it was a really aggravating feeling. It took me forever to go to sleep sunday. I am still fine today, i have not had that sensation since sunday. I called my doc and he said that it was probably something i ate but if it happened again to come in immediately for a small unfill.

Thanks everyone for your support and replies!!!!!!

If I get a fill anywhere near my period (like I did yesterday), I will have reflux for a couple days. I treat it with tums and prilosec, and typically it's gone when my period is gone.
