I spent this afternoon having a wonderful lunch with P'Nut and shopping for the food, vitamins, sports bras (no air bags) that I will need for after surgery. P'nut is such a great wealth of information and was awesome while trying to teach me about valueable calories and what foods are "worth" eating. I felt like I had my own nutritionist shopping with me. I told P'nut that one of my biggest things was that I hate small forks. I just have this thing that if I have to eat with anything smaller than a regular fork it just makes me mad! I mean really mad. So, P'nut explained to me that this was one of the mental things I would need to work on. So we wandered over to the baby section of the store and picked up some small spoons and set out looking for forks. You know there are NO forks sold individually? Anyway, we did find sets of dishes for children that had forks in them. Well, to make a long story short I picked out a plate, bowl, spoon and fork set that is Dora The Explorer! This has gone over like a ton of bricks with my 14 year old son who seems to thing that it is totally ridiculous for his mother to be eating off of toddler plates! LOL. I see it this way, it is a great tool to teach me portion control and small bites. Thank you P'nut. I love my new Dora set:hungry:
I feel my statements made earlier today (offline) have been entirely vindicated :p

Dawg, you are just jealous that you didn't see it first! If you want Dora I will get one for you too!

While the whole idea of eating from a child's plate is comical, it also has its benefits. If I have a big plate or bowl in front of me, I'm going to fill it up! And if I have a big plate or bowl full of food in front of me, I'm going to want to eat it all! So, retraining the brain to see portion sizes appropriate to our needs is a good thing. Adding in a bit of color and humor is even better!

P'Nut, you are right! It is a total psychological thing. It will be nice to see a full plate! I love the small utensil idea. Not only do the smaller utensils serve as a portion control but I have a really hard time taking small bites and this will make it much easier to "chew till its goo"! Thanks so much for your help. I really feel blessed to have you so close to me!

How cool getting help from P'nut...you are very lucky!!! Support is key with this band life.
I did the same thing getting smaller plates...but, I went to Crate and Barrel and found small, square dinner plates that are so cute!!! The whole family uses them, unforunately, my husband and kid fill them up twice and then some....but, not me!!!
Good luck and happy banding!!!

Margo, Thanks that is a great idea! My husband wants to loose some with me but he can't spare as much as I can so maybe I will run over to our crate and barrel here and see what I can find. Thank you for the well wishes.

Lucky you, with the Nut so close.
Maybe Dawg can get a Handy Manny set? He's the coolest new thing on Playhouse Disney. Ask my 3yo. He's "the Hispanic Bob the Builder". Very Forward-thinking and Cool.
4 more days to Bandland, Beauty!

Handy Manny ROFL... great idea! I am on a hunt now! Dawg, Christmas is just around the corner! Kathy, thanks for your well wishes. I am starting to get a little nervous. I may be hyperventilating by Wed. (that is when I fly out).

As I opened my eyes this morning, I asked God to make it a better day than yesterday, and as always I am blessed. I am so grateful to have found this website!
Hi new here, had cold feet last night, but thanks to everyone who responded to my cry for help!! I am not scheduled for surgery until 11/30, but I bought myself a cocktail fork last week, but I love the idea of the kids plates and forks! I too may get a Dora Set because we don't own that one, that way I won't have to fight with my children over who gets what like they do! Thank you all for making me feel welcome!

I am eating dinner and was thinking of our new and new-to-be bandster and I wanted to share as I am eating with my cocktail fork. Since my post here on 11/6, I have been banded and had my first fill, oh, and did I mention, lost 26 lbs???? YEAH!!! I shared the cocktail fork with Jess, but was also remembering IDbeauty mentioning kids utensils and plates. I always eat on a salad plate with a coctail fork and I always remember Neals advice about putting the fork down between bites. My biggest complaint has to be that because it takes so long to eat, my food gets cold. Often I zap it in the microwave about half way through. Anyway, hope this helps our newbies! (I still consider myself somewhat of a newbie too!!)

Oh, also Jess mentioned she was having trouble finding forks outside of a silverware set. I bought 8 on ebay for 6.99+shipping. I have some forks from my MIL which I prefer because the shafts are thicker and easier to hold. The ones I got on ebay are very thin harder to hold because they are danity like. Hope this helps

How's Dora working out for you? Does she teach you nifty little spanish words as you use her? Putting her in your mouth... biting with your teeth...
Man, I'm sick.

got iced tea spoons and cocktail forks from a restaurant supply online, www.acemart.com, I think. Really cheap. You can get some really great stuff at restraurant supply stores, either online or in your city. My blender just died, I might look at the restaurant supply...
I, too, always eat on a salad plate with my smaller utensils. I don't really have much restriction yet, but I am trying, and this helps. I do wish I could be satisfied with less sooner, rather than later.
