I went to lunch at Pizza Hut with DH and got a salad... He brought me back a piece of supreme deep dish and I scraped off the supreme part. When I started to eat it it tasted too doughy so I spit it out. So I ate my salad....too much and too fast.
so I didn't eat much supper. Then I had oatmeal for breakfast anad added a half a peach pureed to it. Now I feel like my stomach is in my throat... Do you think I'm irritated and swollen? Could something be stuck in there? I can get h20 and coffee down. You'd think I know better by this time. I need some encouragement and advice.
Thanks,
Rose

I would think you would have noticed a problem last night if you have over eaten or eaten too fast or not chewed well. I have not had a stuck yet or too full yet.
Perhaps you are having one of the "swollen" mornings. Some people say they feel tight in the morning.
I would think as long as you can get liquid down all is ok. Just stay with liquids until that feeling in your chest goes away. If it doesn't by the morning I would call the doctor.
I didn't think salads could be eaten anymore. Too hard to chew it up before swallowing.

Rose, You sound like you may have irritated your esophogus or your little pouch. Just be extra careful with your food choices for a few days. It's a good idea to stick to liquids or mushies for a couple of days. But be sure to keep the lines of communication open with your Dr. They will help you any way they can. Sometimes all it takes is a little tiny unfill to makes all things good.

I agree with Melinda....YES I think you did irritate your pouch with the pizza -- if any went down and you didn't spit it all out...and then eating the salad just irritated it more...I know this because I've done it - with bread while eating soup --- after that happens I immediately have to do liquids the next 2 meals (no matter if it is the next day or not)...
hang in there - go to liquids for a day or so to let things settle down....and I agree -- if it continues call your surgeon! Most likely nothing is "stuck" but you never know...
and I say next time kick hubby in the leg lol when he brings you pizza! You were on the right track with salad --- good for you!
Texasgal - yes you CAN eat salad - it just depends on how much restriction you have...and that changes daily - so sometimes it's a trial and error kind of thing. I hate when I can't eat salad and miss it terribly when I can't eat it.

Yes, you can eat salad, I do frequently and love them. You do need to be certain that you do correct chewing though, or else. As far as your problems, I have been there and yes, give a couple of days of liquids or soft mushies only. As long as liquids keep going down easily, you should be on the right path.

off topic but yes you can eat salads. I use the Spring Mix or Tender Greens selection as the lettuces are not as crispy and are more tender. However, one of the indicators that my lapband is too tight is the inability to eat salad.
On topic, anytime you have that feeling to start the day, make it a liquid morning and lunch. Ease into food that can be well chewed and is very moist for supper and all should be fine. Stop at the first sign that you're still feeling more restriction than normal. My biggest problems happened when I couldn't believe I was feeling extra restriction and thought it was just that particular bite of something. We need to really listen to the STOP sign. Not listening to our crazy moody lapbands will just make you miserable.

thanks for the encouragement my friends. I stayed with liquids tonight and will for a couple of days. The swelling does seem better. Gee...it was about a year ago that I had a total unfill from being too tight.
Don't want to go through that again. I just have to remember that our band is as Ben Linus (Lost) would say is a "Fickle Bitch".

Just the fact that you had to be unfilled a year ago - during this same "season" tells me that you might get tighter in the summer months - like me and a lot of the other bandsters do....hang in there and just be more cautious during the allergy season and the hot weather

Thanks Mo
I do feel better today... kept with liquids again. Tomorrow will try mushies. I think you may be right about the allergies and heat.. they do affect us.

I think you're right Mo about some people being tighter in the summer. I think I'm one of them. Some days I can feel very tight, and then some days I'm fine, depends on humidity and if I bend over a lot working in my little space. It's so weird too. Some things don't go down well.. then I can eat them again and they do. One thing I found is that venison roast freshly made is fine, after it's cold it doesn't. If I make my home made bbq sauce (which is 2 c tomato juice, 2 T Worcestershire sauce, 2 T vinegar, 1 t chili powder and 1 t. paprika) and make a bbq out of it, I get stuck every time. Doesn't matter what kind of meat I use, it gets stuck. BUT.. I can pan fry a pork loin and DIP it in regular bbq sauce mixed with mustard and it's fine.. go figure!!
I would love to try a big old steak, but I don't have that much nerve yet.. lol

yeah Donna...I imagine it's like this for MOST bandsters...some foods work some times and at others they don't, and then some foods never work...something in your sauce must aggravate your insides..interesting to say the least....and so we take one day at a time and see what works for that day lol -- gosh, I am in heaven when I can get ONE bite of steak to go down....

I have to admit that I cheat. When I have steak I use my little food processor. I could never get down any beef with out it even hamburger.

yeah Crystal...some steak goes down - some doesn't...it really depends on the day. It really is a learning experience - and no sooner do you learn what works and what doesn't - it changes lol. I use my little chopper quite often - I don't consider it cheating - I consider it making ME happy with my food options.

I've been using my chopper too.. I don't puree it till it's nothing, but it tends to make it easier for me to chew up, AND I get my protein in. I find that when I do this, I'm satisfied longer, I don't go looking for stuff to eat.. in fact, I rarely even think of food when I use the chopper. I just started doing this with this last fill.. and I don't consider it cheating either Mo.

Your right ladies, I shouldn't consider it cheating if it helps with food choices. Cheating is what my daughter keeps telling me..LOL.

I guess I am lucky? I really don't care for meat that much. I like hamburger, liver and chicken but I have never liked roast, steak, pork chops much. Giving those up will be easy. I could very easily be a vegetarian but I love eggs!
I am on solids now so the challenge really begins. I am nervous but excited to be off all the soft stuff.
Do you eat salads? Lettuce, tomatoes, carrots etc? I would think lettuce and carrots would be too hard to cope with.

Do you eat salads? Lettuce, tomatoes, carrots etc? I would think lettuce and carrots would be too hard to cope with.I find that texture of food is my major problem. I haven't tried lettuce (except in a taco salad) but tomatoes, carrots are sometimes difficult for me because of the texture after it's chewed up. I had some frozen corn the other night, I found that it was harder to break down, peas are alright. Someone told me that she used to take all the ribs out of the lettuce and just eat that part (the soft part of the leaves would give her trouble), but I've not done that yet. I must admit, I don't get the veggies that I used to eat.. I'm just very leary about having trouble. Now some people as they get fills have trouble with eggs. Again some say it's the texture. It's just so different for everyone.
