What are some tricks you use to stop eating once you start feeling that "oh I need to stop eating even though this is so good" feeling? I know when I need to stop, I feel it, but some (and by some I mean almost every) times I keep going and going and then it's coming back up. You would think one or two times of that, and I'd stop right? No. This is embarrassing that food has such control over me. Isn't the definintion of insanity doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different response? Yet I keep pushing food down expecting not to puke. Logically, why did I spend so much on this surgery just to keep eating when its doing its job? Ugh, Im a mess

I have never found anything that works 100% of the time, but...I get away from the food, or I get the food away from me.

I went to dinner with some bandsters and one women dumps pepper on the food (now it doesn't taste good anymore), another one puts her napkin (it was paper) on top of the food...apparently this makes her not able to eat it anymore.

I think the best way that I've ever seen is that a few bandsters have actually asked the wait staff to wrap half the meal before it gets to the table, or ask for the container to wrap it when they bring the meal out...so then only half the meal is on the plate.
So...I guess this version boils down to having less food available as opposed to the previous version which is ruin what's left.

I don't have this problem when I'm out with friends. I can show control in front of other people. It's when I'm home alone that I have control issues. It's easy for meals, I just fix my small plate and put away all the food before I sit down to eat.
However, snacks are more difficult and I have to buy portioned controlled items to help with the control. Forcing myself to get up and do something else is the only way to really break the "keep eating" mode for me.

Oooh, Bear, I love that "wrap up 1/2 the meal to go" thing. I TOTALLY need to do that at a restaurant....at home...I use small plates. I leave the food at the stove so hubby and daughter have to get up to get more...its not in front of us anymore.

Just think, before the band, you would eat, it wouldn't come up and you'd metabolize those extra calories into fat.....Yay band!!!

Bear, great advice! Since I am a 'clean plate club' member...packing 1/2 right away will be a great trick! Those are some good tips!

Ok so Im going to try putting leftovers away before I start eating and getting a to go box at the beginning of meals out. Thanks! (a napkin over my plate would so NOT be a deterrent. Lol at even the thought of a little napkin stopping me from getting to delicious food!!!)

I haven't tried Bear's wrap it up first at a restaurant but I think I will try it since I always ask for a *to go* box anyway.

When I'm at home, I pur food on plates in the kitchen. No serving dishes to pick from at the table. Then, I will immediately take my uneaten food to the kitchen with the promise to myself that if I'm still hungry in 10-15 minutes, I can still have it. I haven't gone back yet. I still sit at the table and chat.

I put an appropriate amount of snacks in a small dish - like a custard cup. Don't eat out of the bag anymore. Disaster awaits!

speaking from a non banded point of view, i agree with what Bear said...i throw something on my food AS SOON AS I FEEL SATISFIED..i try not to even think twice about it. as soon as u feel like u know you've had your last bite, put something on it that will not only prevent you from taking another bite, but won't even make u think twice about it...sometimes i will take my drink (but remember i'm not banded so i still drink with my meals) and i take my straw and i poor some of the drink onto my food, or i will take ketchup and poor it all over my food..something gross..this way i can't have it anymore lol. do u have a significant other who can help you? one of the things that my DF and i have agreed upon is that he is well aware of my satisfied signs such as sighing or sitting back in my chair, and as soon as he sees me do that, he will take my plate away from me, and do the things i would normally do, or he will eat it, or he will throw it away if we are eating at home..or give it to the dogs lol...and he will do it instantly, without questioning..and sometimes i get mad, but in the end i am so thankful that he helps me out because i don't need those few extra bites..and for you who is banded...u don't want to PB...so hope i gave u some pointers to help u conquer over eating..it is my BIGGEST problem as well =/

Lol...I'd like to see my man try to take away my plate of food! Later I would thank him, but at the time, I'm pretty sure he'd lose a hand, or at least a couple fingers!!!

I have heard about dumping salt in your water so you dont drink it during your meal. I think that would be a good idea with food too. Just cover it with salt and you will not want to eat it. I dump mine in the garbage right away so I will stop. Im still having a hard time too. Good luck.

you have to do what you have to do...and sometimes you know what you have to do, and you just need to do it without thinking twice about it..it is only food, you can do it..just keep saying that, it is only food, why am i letting it control me? don't let it win over you...you can beat this.

tahlanicki, In response to your dilemma about not knowing when to stop.... You are not alone with this one. BELIEVE ME!!! If you haven't already, stop by Bear's thread... Hoping to be half a man. Here's the link: http://band2gether.net/showthread.php?t=9000
and read about his adventures. He mentions some of the same things. He has a wonderful way with words and you will learn a lot by reading his thread.
