My Dr was suprised I have been able to function at all. My b12, iron, folate and 4 other things were extremely low. I was started on injections immediately and have to take 2 tablets a day. I will be having the injections for 8 weeks and he will be reviewing it then.
I cant wait till it all starts kicking in so I can start to feel normal again. Thanks to whoever first posted about this and made me get off my butt and get it checked out. I just thought I was tired and lethargic all the time because of the wedding, now over a month ago.
Anyway just thought I would let you all know.
Thanks again.

Hi Kellie...I have low iron and folate too, which caused iron deficient anemia and major fatigue. I have to take 2 iron pills a day. How are the shots? Are you taking B12 shots or iron shots? I've heard the iron shots are horrible. I hope you feel better!!

It takes a little while for all to kick in. I was diagnosed with pernecious anemia in 99. I had to take B12 shots bi weekly and then weekly. I still take B12 shots because my body can't absorb it. Once it all kicks in you should feel better. The mind fog clears too and for me that is the best indicator of when my anemia is out of control.

Feel better soon.

I have been feeling very lethargic here lately also... I just thought I had a bug or something but you guys have me wondering...

I gave blood and they said my iron was fine. Do I need to go to my PCP and get a slew of tests run or do I go to my female Dr.??? I also thought I was feeling lazy since I have been eating junk and not working out, but I really am wondering if I need to have other things checked out.

Glad you got your stuff looked into Kel!

Kellie, i'm glad that they found the problem, now kick em in the ass and ask em what took so long.

Meantime..it does take a while to re-establish your mineral levels, but like Barbara was saying, the symptoms will start to dissipate as the levels reset. I went through this with my wife, anemia, potassium levels you name it.

I'm supposed to be taking B12 now too. My doctor told me that most people who have had any kind of weight loss surgery done will have a defficiency of B12. Even though we dont have the malabsorption problems of those with RnY, we have had the configuration of our digestion process altered, which easily affects the absorption of protein and B12. Also, the best source of B12 is from red meat. Just an FYI for y'all.

B12 is important and lack of it can cause serious, irreversible damage to brain cells and much more. So, everyone should get their levels checked! The world doesn't need more dummies! :p :heh:

Gee Kel, good for you for having the tests. Hope you are feeling better soon. So far in my life I haven't had any iron or B12 problems (I am a carnivore, and a Berocca devotee!), but was warned by the dietician that AGB patients need to watch out for those things. BTW - did you know that Vit. B plays a key role in metabolising food, and also in healing. It also helps ward off recurrence of infections like cold sores / herpes.

Heather - if you have iron & nutrient blood tests, ask that your blood screen include liver and thyroid function as well, as problems with either can cause you to feel lethargic / in a fog, and may not show up in a stndard blood screen.

As P'Nut said, the world doesn't need any more dummies (we've got enough of those in Parliament! hehehe!)

Hey aaamom,
I am not feeling any different yet really, hopefully over the next few weeks I will notice a change. I havent been on for a couple of days, so I may have missed it but did you post about your TT. How did you go etc? How are you feeling?

Heather, Go get full blood works done, if you are ok in iron, it does not mean you are ok with the other things. Especially if you are tired and lethargic etc.

Thanks everyone else for the advice and wishes.

Hi Kellie~ thanks for asking. I am sore, very sore. I don't think I anticipated this much pain. Just starting to get around. Can't really see any improvement yet. I am assuming the swelling will end at some point. I thnk I will feel better once my drain comes out and I can shower, finally.
Thanks again
