OK.... I have a question.....

Will the meals take into consideration that there may be some of us that have dietary restricions.... like me... I'm lactose intolerant. I noticed that they were going to serve protein shakes with milk. Can soy be make available? or should I plan on bringing my own?

PhotoNut

Great questions, Mel. The meals have not been selected yet. When Melanie comes to Boise, we will be meeting with the conference facility's director of food and beverages to select the meals. At this time, I am not certain about the specifics of the meals, but yes we will take into consideration the needs of all attendees.

I have added a comment line to the registration forms so people can note their specific food restrictions or requirements.

As for the BSN Lean Dessert protein shakes, they can be served with milk or water. I have had them both ways and either is delicious. However, when we meet with the catering director, we will certainly be asking about soy options!

ooo ooooo another question... Will they have a coffee cart... you know.... lattes... etc.???

PhotoNut
04-11-2009, 07:19 PM
Coffee and tea will be served with meals.

We can ask about a coffee cart where drinks would be sold individually.

All foods and beverages provided at this year's conference will be with the success of our bandsters's weight loss goals in mind. :wink2:

When I'm feelin rebellious, I occasionally sip some coffee with my breakfast, but I try to do the other meals with no liquids. Of course, I can follow Nancy Reagan's advice and "Just say no" when they are offered. And I know there will be non-banded people there too, so I'm sure they aren't ready to give up their liquids. I'll really have my A-game on by October, so I'm sure I will do just fine.

Right, Judy! Bandsters shouldn't drink with their meals. But we will have some spouses, family members, and pre-bandsters attending as well and so drinks will be served to those who request them.

This all brings to mind a very important point that I wanted to emphasize. We will not be providing between-meal snacks, so bringing a cheese stick or small snack to eat during breaks is fine. However, the contract with the conference center strictly prohibits eating or drinking foods and beverages which were brought in from outside sources. Our conference rooms are located by an exit, so stepping outside to have a snack won't be difficult. Of course, water will be provided through out the conference. We considered having coffee available throughout the day, but the expense was such that it would have increased the cost of registrations. Besides, this way you will all be encouraged to drink your water! hehe

Not being a coffee drink all day long makes coffee a non-issue...I'd like to think either coffee or tea would be offered though - as bandsters we all know how difficult meal time can be sometimes and something warm before the meal can sometimes make all the difference on whether the meal can be eaten or not -- so perhaps hot beverages at meal time at least?

Yep, sorry if that was misleading. Coffee and tea WILL be served at meal times, just not sitting there for all day service.

awesome - thanks - it's good to know!

and did I remember right - they will be offering protein shakes AND protein bars in the morning? could we get one of each and save the bar for break time? don't want to sound greedy or rude - just want to plan ahead - people with crazy blood sugar just can't keep sugars level with only 3 meals and no snacks....

The BSN protein shakes are being provided by B2G, but prepared by the conference catering staff. Nope, no bars. Sorry. As I said, if people need to bring additional snacks with them that will be fine, but they have to be eaten outside of the conference facilities. There is a beautiful plaza right outside the doors where our rooms will be. Stepping outside to have a snack will be very pleasant. :)

Stolen from the "Extra Events" page:

If three hours of shopping in downtown Boise isn't your idea of a fun afternoon, how about this? A one-hour narrated tour of the historical business and residential areas of downtown Boise. The trolley will pick up pre-registered passengers in front of the Grove Hotel at 4pm and return around 5pm, giving everyone plenty of time to relax before dinner at 6pm. The tour is $15 per person. Seating is limited to 30. We need a minimum of 18 passengers. If fewer than 18 sign up, a full refund will be issued at the conference. Registration forms include the Trolley Tour options.

So Kathy (Stitchy) emailed me after I posted my response to your question, Pattie. She wanted to be sure that it was ok for her and Tom to come to the bbq. I felt bad then because I realized that my attempt to give a response on a day when I was overwhelmed with other things had made it sound like we were too full to let anyone else come to the bbq! Not so! And it also made me aware that my response might have come across as less than welcoming and inviting - which I certainly am and want to convey to everyone.

I want anyone who is a b2g family member to know that if you're traveling to Boise for the conference, you are more than welcome to come to the bbq. Please just keep in mind that its at my house and while I wish, with all my heart, we lived on a big ole b2g ranch where we could entertain a couple of hundred folks, we don't. I think we will be fine with all our local b2g folks and the bandsters from out of town and their spouse/companion/etc. If we get closer to the date and I see that we aren't already going to be wall-to-wall people, then I'd be more than happy to open it up to some family members. Especially for those like Pattie who have family up here that they will be visiting during their stay in Boise.

One day we'll have that ranch, then you just wait and see what kind of Idaho Ho-Down we put on for everyone! Yeehaw!

I love you guys and can hardly wait to see and HUG each of you many times over! This is going to be a weekend to remember!

If anyone has a question about the bbq (which is not officially part of the b2g Conference) please PM me or email me.

Susan.. Not a problem.. Really... That is why I asked before i just showed up with 3 extra in tow.. I realized there would be a big crowd and that it was at your house.. do not even worry about it for a second.. I will still come and just tell them to kick back at the hotel.. I will probably bring the baby with me, while they have some alone time..

Hey, I am contemplating this. I think it'd be nice for me to meet lots of others who have had the band. That happens to fall around my birthday, October 12th. I'll be finally getting my SSDI by then. But I don't have anyone that would go with me I don't think. But I am also a shy person. Especially at first.

Stitchy
06-19-2009, 12:39 PM

Stitchy is right. For some reason, shy people don't tend to stay shy long around this loving and accepting group ,,, You know there is REAL bonding power in the knowledge that prior to banding we were all on a similar painful life path. I do hope you will decide to come. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to meet you ,,,

You can also put up a thread about sharing a hotel room -- sorry I'm already booked with 3 others for our room - but if you jump in and share with 3 others the hotel room will only cost you $25 a night thanks to Susan's great work on her end to get us a good deal.

I decided I am not coming this year folks. I want to fly out to California to see my best friend. She comes to Michigan to visit family and because of how big her family is, I rarely get to see her for longer than a couple hours. Plus I have never been farther west than Chicago! So I think I am going to make a trip in October or November to visit her. I might also stop in Texas on my way home to visit friends from Yahoo I have known for almost 6 years. Will be nice to finally meet them! I hope you all enjoy your time in Idaho and I will be thinking about you all!!

Pattie, I am SO glad you're coming to the G2G!! Unless you plan to do stuff with family away from the conference, I seriously don't think you'll need a car. The hotel, conference center, tons of shops, PF Chang's, theaters, bars, etc, are all within 1-2 blocks of each other. There are already arrangements for the Thurs. night thing. Check with Julz or Cheryl for the group taxi arrangements. Also, the hotel has free shuttle service to and from the airport.

Keep in mind that parking can get expensive. We will have parking passes for everyone attending the G2G which cap the parking fees at $9 /day per pass, which is great for locals who will arrive at the G2G early in the morning and leave late at night. However, each time you exit the parking garage you will be charged for the hours you were there. If you were to leave several times during a 24 hour period, that could add up to much more than $9 / day.

I was just thinking today - if you could pick us up from the hotel - would that be easier and quicker? We can take the hotel shuttle from the airport to the hotel - and unpack and settle in - then get a ride to Susan and Paul's from you? and then back to the hotel by you or someone else. And YES - I know that Donna and I - and probably others - will still be around all Sunday afternoon -- can't wait to spend time together!!!!

Time sure flies when you don't have money.... I'm going to be late in sending in my registration. I have the hotel set up and my air fare paid, but since they docked me for being out with my knee for so long, my pay check is really small for the next two months. And wouldn't you know I have to take my computer in to get it fixed..... uggghhhhh. I'm just glad I got the hotel and airfare paid. Now I am working Saturdays to pay for my registration and for my computer. Im coming (for the BBQ too), just going to be late with my registration. Well, here are a few examples of how we dressed last year. No one seemed dressed inappropriately.. well, some were iffy. *glances at Patrick*

8226
Some wore slacks, some wore jeans. Casual tops and sweaters.
(Patrick and his DW, MrsSabre, Vinny and Jess, P'Nut)

8224
Nice casual, I guess?
(Divagirl, Kim G, Linda V, Chevygirl, PhotoNut, and JoyceGA)

8216
There was a wide variety really.
(Asses)

8225
But some preferred to dress up.
(LadyTonya, Little T, Stac1982, Kathy, Linda V)

8218
Then there were those who had a style all their own.

It looks like we are going to be having an early fall this year. The leaves are already beginning to turn! I will be so disappointed if they all fall off before the conference! Boise is beautiful in the fall and I wanted you all to see it!

I would definitely bring clothes appropriate for cooler, crisp, fall weather. Up here, we do layers (ie wear a cool top, covered by a light sweater, and bring a warmer coat to put over that) because our temps can change drastically from day to night. And, we are going thru a very funky year. Some days the highs are over 100 and then it will drop to highs in the mid 60s in the same week! Very odd indeed!

I'll be giving everyone weather updates as we get closer to the conference weekend.

totally took me like 30 minutes to find this thread. sad- i know. too many pit stops in the cup o java room. :)

so i lost my itinerary in the move. i gave them my old email, and now i cant access it. i called them today and i now have my schedule.
i will arrive in Boise at 10:10am Thursday. i am thinking shuttle to the grove..then can i get picked up for the Bar-b-q? pretty please?

is there someone i should contact or ask?

next question..is that shuttle service 24/7? cause my flight out is super early Monday morning..like 7 something. whats Boise airport like? do u have to be there 2 hours early or 1? *prays* please 1!!!!

GirlyGirl
08-26-2009, 10:46 AM
Kristina, the hotel will shuttle you over early. my flight actually leaves at 6:00 am. on Monday morning so I will be leaving early too. Just check with the concierge at the hotel the night before so they know you are going to the airport in the morning.

Oh, and save yourself the frustration, be sure to follow the container sizes for your lotions, hair sprays etc. There is nothing worse than getting to security and having to let them keep a $25 bottle of hair conditioner or facial cream...(I know, it's happen to me)... and just because it passes going, does not mean they won't catch it coming...(I know, it's happened to me)... and whatever you do, don't start arguing with them and having a Diva fit if they confiscate your most expensive, over 3 oz size, liquid, or they will call "the scary guys" over to remind you that you're not in Kansas anymore Dorothy....(I know, it's happened to me). Just go prepared...

kristina

what do u put ur stuff in jer? i wonder if i can use the glad containers 1/2 c. containers?

GirlyGirl
08-26-2009, 01:21 PM
Sweetie, if you do that, you'll have liquid coming out all over the place before you get out of the airport...!

Go to Walgreen's or Walmart or any of those stores and go to the cosmetic area. they have either individual little bottles and containers or a little kit. You can also buy those small sizes of toothpaste, hair spray, etc. get a couple of the hair sprays.... I'm just sayin'....

Even if it's not your fav brand...a girl can do anything for a couple days...

That's the best way... I don't trust the glad bowls, but you be the judge...

I also have a little clear plastic zipper holder thingy that I put my liquids in when I travel, just in case something spills or gets pressure and opens. At lease the mess is contained.

Hope that helps!

Oh, and I never carry my hair dryer, they'll have one, I just bring my flat iron.

This only applies for your carry on bag (3 oz. size linits, nail clipers, etc). Anything that is checked can have any size inside. Unless big brother changed the rules for checked luggage??? But I was on their site and didn't see any changes.

redgrldj
08-26-2009, 02:54 PM
Carry on lugguage can have liquid in 3 ounce container, but only as many that will fit in a Quart size baggy.. Checked bagage can basically have anything.. That is the guidelines for united and American.. My hubby flies alot, so I have to know the rules.. Oh and carry on's cannot have nail files or scissors, not sure on the nail clippers..

Thanks for the reminders everyone...I haven't flown in a few years and I forget all the craziness involved. Remember -- we are within "walking distance" to the stores by the hotel so we can buy whatever we need, I'm sure.

Donna -- I remember Max having to wear the special socks -- I assure you hon, we are NOT talking about that (of course he needs to wear those! And he did - and it didn't look "odd" to me) but rather strange men who wear black dress socks with sandals...that trend must have come from another country lol

Kristina.....I think Jer answered your question, but just in case.... At my airport, they hand out zip lock baggies for you to put your makeup, shampoo, meds, etc. in. There was a sign that stated these items, must be in a clear bag of some sort if you were taking these items in your purse or carry on. I found some little bottles at a luggage shop that were small enough to carry enough make up/shampoo etc. for 2-3 days. I loved them. Like Jer, I don't trust the pressure changes in the plane and always make sure that everything is in a plastic baggie. Believe me, I've had many mishaps in my luggage and purse from not putting things in plastic bags.

Oh you guys will LOVE the pool and large hot tubs (I think there were two, but since my brain is old and obese and therefore has less tissue, I can't remember now. I could be thinking of the saunas.)

The hotel's fifth floor gym, where the pool and and hot tubs are, has floor to ceiling windows that look over the city of Boise. It really is nice!

Speaking of the hotel, the fourth floor balcony is so awesome. It's a huge patio with lots of tables and chairs. I think it's going to be a great place to hang out and visit during the quiet times. There's positive thinking for ya.. quiet times. Yeah right! LOL!

Hotel shuttle service begins at 4:15am. Check in at the Boise airport is one hour before the flight. They usually board 30 mins before take off. There is only one terminal, unless you fly Alaska which has it's own section and boards on the tarmack.
