Ok I just got banded yesterday (yay me) and I can't get rid of this nasty smell off of my stomach. I can't fully shower until tomorrow night, but I've sponge bathed already and its still there. I think its that gross brownish-yellow crap they put on there to sterilize your skin or whatever, but ummm ewwww....HOW DO I GET RID OF IT? It's driving me crazy!!!

Congratulations Christy!!!!!!
Welcome to the band.
As for the smelly stuff on your tummy, I wish I had the perfect answer for you. I didn't have the same experience. But since you can't shower yet...try using a warm soapy washcloth (not too drippy-I don't know if you have stitches or are glued) and a clean dry washcloth to kind of scrub gently. I know you mentioned you took a sponge bath but maybe this time someone can help you with it? Or wash it a few times more and maybe it will start to dissipate.
You are going to be sore so don't push down too hard. Your senses like small are probably hyper sensitive because you just had surgery.
Again...Congratulations!!!!!

Well, Christy, if you can't get rid of it, powder it. Some wonderfully smelly bath lotion and powder. And lots and lots of perfume. It's therapeutic anyway!

BTW - Contrats on the band.

I wasn't bothered so much by the smell as the fact my belly and chest were sticky from it. So my breasts kept sticking to me...it hurt!!! I finally used Baby wipes to clean most of it off. It may work with yours as well, and they have them with Lavender, or Shea Butter scent now too.
Good Luck and welcome to Bandland!!!

Thanks everyone, I'll try powder. The doc gave me the good stuff before I left. :)

the best stuff to remove the betadine (sp?) (that is what the brown smelly stuff is) is alcohol. Go to the drugist, or have someone pick some up for you, and use cotton balls to lightly scrub it off of your skin. this will also not contaminate your still healing wounds.

Congratz on the surgery!!! I am doing the happy dance for you!

Yep, Funny is right on both counts.

It's Betadine (the smell is the iodine in it, which is an extremely effective antiseptic), and alcohol wipes are the best and safest way to get it off.

I used alcohol wipes (pre-injection swabs). I also used the swabs to gently clean the skin around my wounds each time I replaced my bandages. DO NOT put the wipes onto any broken skin - they sting like heck!

I finally got to shower yesterday and I washed my poor smelly wounds with light lavender and some warm water, and it made a huge difference. Smelly yucky is over, and I finally feel human again LOL.
