View Full Version : Sweet Spot?

I already need another fill! It will be my 3rd. I have a 4cc filled to 2.
It worked for a while and now I can feel it wearing off and I'm getting hungrier. I could eat my keyboard with some fava beans and nice chianti.
How do you know when you reach that elusive "sweet spot"?
How many fills does it usually take?

hi Diva,
I used to think the sweet spot just didn't exist and for some I dont think they ever find it. But! since my 3rd fill last week I feel Imight just have hit upon something. Until that point I have had no restriction and only lost so much because of things I chose not to eat. Now I can't eat the same. Things are going down but real slowly and when she's had enough my laband lets me know immediately!
So, I think it's a personal thing and for me it took 3 fills and whether it lasts or not is another thread!

I think I had it for a week or two in September, lol. But sweet spot to me may be different than for you. To me, it doesnt preclude any food groups, and it doesnt stop me eating out or anything, I dont like the idea of tight.

I dont know, near enough is good enough for me, I dont spend a lot of time thinking about it.

I'm curious too. I am scheduled for my third fill on October 30th. So far any weight I have lost has all been white knuckle dieting. Which I can only do for so long and then I revert back to my old ways. I'm trying real hard not to. My first fill in my 4cc band was 1.25. NO RESTRICTION, NONE WHATSOEVER. So when I went in for my second fill, I told her that and she only gave me .5. I was sorely disappointed. I know it is not good to get overfilled because then you have the chance of having to get completly unfilled and start all over, but I sure wish I would get SOMETHING.

I wonder why some fill folks are so stingy with their fills and others are extremely generous? My first fill was supposed to be 2.5 (in a 4cc band). Eeek! I pleaded for less as I was going camping that weekend. My second was only .3 and I thought I should have more. My 3rd was going to be another .7,but I was chicken. I asked for a little less. Now I'm ready for the rest of it. I think I will make an appoint next week. Wait! Maybe they have an opening tomorrow!

stitchy- how long do you have to wait between fills? My doctor wants his patients to wait 6 weeks between all fills. I have weaseled into 4 weeks twice though. Hopefully I don't regret it but I feel NOTHING. I'm starting to wonder if I even have a band.

I just always think of her as 'she' and called her Elpeatha which means Hope in Greek. She's fickle and fussy and changes how she reacts all the time...sound female enough?

FoodStamp - I don't think that my doctors office has a *rule.* Fills and unfills are part of the first year's treatment. They just say if you have stopped losing 1-2 lbs a week, or are still hungry all the time, come on in. It's pretty liberal. Since I only live about 45 minutes away, I go when I feel like I need it. I just have to remember to say "I'm still hungry" in case they don't want to give me one. I feel sooo lucky after reading about you folks having to wait, or only get as much as they feel you need.

Scheduled my 3rd fill for this Wednesday. Still looking for that elusive sweet spot, I want him to be a little more agressive (not too much though I wanna swallow!). It sneaks up on you this fill business.

My office pretty much lets me run the show. I am like their poster child since I had the surgery first from their office and I know as much if not more about it than they do. I was told to give it 3 weeks then call if I need more, but with my last fill it brought me to 3.5 cc in my 4 cc band and I think I had restriction for a month but then boom it was gone. I felt it out for a week then went in for my last fill. I have restriction again and maybe it is a sweet spot because I dropped 7 lbs since friday. I was shocked. It is very weird when you aren't losing and then boom 7-8 lbs gone, its crazy and makes you doubt the scale, LOL. I think what the "sweet spot" is, is when you can not consume a large portion of food and you are comfortable with that for 3-4 hours and you are losing steadily.

My fill Dr. did me in the exact same increments as Foodstampchamp. First one was almost 8 weeks after surgery, and was 1.25cc. I had mild differences in how I could eat, the first fill simply slowed me down. If I ate too fast it felt as tho it "stuck". The second fill was done a month after that and it was .50cc. I was on liquids for 3 days, and when I began mushies, I knew immediately this was different. I had that 2nd fill last July. I have not been hungry, and am still only able to eat small amounts. But even though it is a small amount, I can eat pretty much anything I want. I avoid most bread, I worry about it! But meat is not an issue, I get a balanced diet. I can eat more now than I did for awhile, but still withing a reasonable amount I think. I would say I eat between 1/2 and 3/4 of a cup of food per meal. My weight loss is holding steady at 1-3 pounds per week now. It seems to have slowed down some, but not enough to make me want another fill. I will work this one until I find myself hungry or eating a lot more than I can now! I consider where I am to be my sweet spot...for now!!
