View Full Version : I'm New
Hi,
I just found this site last week and have been lurking. My banding date is 10/30. Does anyone know a realistic recovery time?
Thanks,
Warren

Hi Warren...
Welcome! We're so glad you are here.
For every person, you'll hear a different story of recovery. For me the operation was a snap. I was pretty much moving around the next day...I never "took to my bed", so to speak. I took it easy for a few days and then was back at work. I didn't do anything too strenuous (I sell real estate, so I didn't take anyone out looking at homes or anything like that) - just did computer work and desk work. I was back at the gym within 1 week doing some cardio and was back doing strength training in 4 weeks. I was pretty much myself after a week.
Hope that helps. And again, welcome. You'll enjoy it here. It's a great group of fun and helpful people. Never be afraid to reach out and remember...there are no stupid questions!

Welcome to b2g, wwb! And um.. you'll never recover. Life will never be the same once you step aboard the bandtrain! heh
Seriously.. it varies a great deal from person to person. Some walk out the same day and stop at the store on the way home, some stay overnight and go shopping the next day, while some take a good two weeks or more to fully recover. I think it depends on a great deal of factors. I would plan on a couple of weeks, and then if you heal faster you'll be ahead of the game.
Let us know what part of the country you're in and where you're getting banded. There are most likely others in your neck of the neighborhood that can offer advice and support.
Again, welcome! Glad you found us!

:welcome: Warren to B2G. Congratulations on your surgery date too.
I agree with the others and you'll soon find out, that from the first moment you and 'your' band will do things differently from anyone else - with a few common factors thrown in for good measure.
Since non of us can be sure, why not give yourself a week and take it from there. Generally you should be up and about and moving well by then. More time maybe needed if you do really strenuous work but you can figure this out as you begin your recovery.
Good luck with the surgery and come visit often.
Thank You all.
I live in Vermont and am being banded at Fletcher Allen Hospital on 10/30.
I started the liquid diet on Sunday after a couple of days of saying goodbye to some old friends.....Pizza, beer, birthday cake. I'm sure some of you know my old friends. We had a little celebration because it's my wife's birthday on 10/30 and mine on 11/01. I hoep the doc doesn't mind that I gained 3 lbs. I'm hoping the liquid diet knocks them off.

Heh, you'll be fine Warren. Thanks for the laugh on pizza and beer. I hear ya. :heh:
It's a good day for a banding. 10/30. Wow, that's Monday! Where did October go?! Geez. Drink loads of water and flush out the water weight, clean out that liver, all will be well! Keep us posted!

Hi Warren and welcome to B2G, you're going to love the people on here. I was banded just yesterday, and am still very very sore today and can't imagine myself going back for a minimum of 1 week. It's not near as bad as I thought though, and I am moving around great. I know its different for everyone, but my doctor said give it 1 week for each day spent in the hospital. Take your time recovering, you won't regret it!! Welcome aboard!!
P.S. We shared the same friends hehehehe ;)
