Well it has been almost a month since I have been on here an here is why. My Dr decide that I needed to have my port removed, that it was what was the issue. The reason I was having so many issues. That my body was regecting it. Well my surgery was sch for FEB 5 09 I went to the hospital. I had someone who I thought was a friend drive me there but the sat in the car instead of coming inside with me. I later found out she left while I was in surgery. Any who had the surgery which went fine. The Dr did find that there was infection around the port an was happy I had allowed to go forth with the removing of it. However post surgery is when the trouble started I came out of surgery coughing up a storm. This is how my asthma is I will cough an cough how ever there was something different about this cough I was told per the Anasitgolist that I was coughing because I was not moving air out. He was giving me breathing treatments using the Bag value mask on me*scared the crap out of me" then what really scared me was when he called for the med to sedate me to put the breathing tube in. Now keep in mind that when the surgery was done I was only in a dazed sleep I was not put under using the Genral . So there I sat not breathing an finally started to come around. I had found out from my doc that I had being going on like this for a couple of hours. He had done another surgery in between seeing me having issues he then decided that because of having the breathing issues an at this point they were not really sure if it was asthma related or if I had reacted to something the gave me they were going to keep me over night to watch me an give me some more breathing treatments. My doc then called my parents to let them know I was staying over night. Well come firday moring I was all set waiting for the doc to come in a discharge me. Then I got really nausea I asked for something an it took them a total of 45 to even come in my room to find out what I wanted then brought me a bucket an went to get my med. I ended up getting sick. an then my mom called an told me that the doc said that if they came up to the hospital an felt comfrotable taking me home they could. so i waited for them to get there ( we live about 45 miles away from the hospital) In the mean time they came in to check vitals which is about the time they found out I was running a fever an mind you it was 103.7 not a low grade... anyway I waited till my mom got there an she took over care we were waiting on a blood test to be done found out that they blood had calugted(sp) an had to be re drawn. When they came in to do this they decided to recheck my vitals which found I was still running a temp. 103.8 not much change but that my BP was only 55/22 well this finally prompted them to call my doc who told them to run in iv fluids wide open. well I was just getting worse. Still throwing up an very low BP high fever so my dad called the doc an said something was not right. (please bare with me this is were things get a little fuzzy for me.) So my doc sent in a ICU team to come an look at me an the doc took two steps in the room an side she has to go to ICU now. So I was transported down there. the first night they put in a central line so they would have access to me because my viens were not there. I was awake when they put this in the only thing they did was numb it. It really was not that bad. (they team was laughing becasuse my nose was itching an the surgern who was putting the line in was nice enough to scratch it because I could not because I was not sterlie. After this I really do not rember much of anything becasue I became very ill an ended up having a breathing tube put in a was sedated because fear that I would try an pull the tube out. My parents were told that I might not make it through this. I spent 5 days an the breathing machine an was finally taken off I was told that on Saturday I was not moving air which my body was shutting down because of the lack of O2 to my brian. an because of this I went in to Kidney failure. I also became septic. threw out all of this. I found out that in the beginging when I was having trouble breathing I sallowed some fluid whihc turned in to baterica phemnia. which lead things down the path. Now as I sit here I still have some phenonmia to battle with I was also told I have HITS disease(blood disorder) an am waiting to here from my family doc to see if my kidneys are ok. I thank GOD above that I was able to survie an make it through.I still have apt with blood, lung , family, an surgern to make sure things stay on the right path. I spent Feb 5-15 in the hospital an never want to go through that again. I do however plan to have my lap-band port put back in once I recover from everything. I feel horribable week. an get tired very easy. Please forgive my spelling mistake I ran spell check but something it did not catch an I am having trouble staying awake to finsih this so I know there are some in there. wow so sorry to hear that you have had such battles. SO glad that your Dad called the Doctor, you were definetly septic, your Vitals signs showed that, high fever, low bloodpressure, probably high pulse, going into shock
Scary stuff.
Please make sure you are healthy enough to undergo any surgery before you even think of it!!
Good luck to you and God bless,
Kat

Wow, Lindsay! You poor girl! What an ordeal!

Just so I'm clear about this, your complications were not related to the band but to existing medical problems which complicated the surgery? As you said, port replacement is not major surgery and typically only requires sedation rather than being completely anesthetized. Was it your asthma that caused the problem? An allergic reaction to the medications? What happened? If you mentioned this in your post, I'm sorry I missed it. I was busy feeling the upset and fear that you and your family must have experienced!! Bless your heart.

Hope you're feeling much much better today. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

:longpost:No prob with checkin I am happy to be able to start posting again lol.. I told they lady at my surgeron office that I can not get sick an more to many apts to keep up with. lol. I have checked in with my family doc who says that . I still have a little bit of phenima. However this is no big deal simply because of all the meds I recived in hospital she thinks it will take care of everything. She also told me that when I was in the hospital I started to go into kidney faluire which I knew an that my kidney is still only working at about 50% ( I still think this has to do with the 2 kidney stones that I am passing) She will recheck the lab work when I go in an see her on March 23. I have also seen my Surgeon once since I have been out of the hospital an he says things look like they are healing very well as far as the site is.:sun_smiley: I called the office today to change my apt an it was a good thing I did because of the fact I was not on there books the font desk had not put me in just wrote the reminder card. LOL but I check in with him on March 11 I am sure everything will still be fine from his point of view. Yesterday I went an met with the blood doc that I will be following up with an he is running a whole bunch of test. They took 20 things of blood. They are looking in to the HIT disase however told me that you can often test negtive for that one time an then postive the next. They are also going to test for the protien C that my mom an sister both have. I go back an see him Apirl 15. I have an apt for a Cat scan on monday the 9 to look at two things one being that I have been having pain in my left side an my Family doc is looking to make sure that it is just the stone an not a infection. I also start my PT on Monday.. It will be interesting to see what they do for me. I have been going to the gym now for about two weeks I go every day for about 45 I love it an have been happy to get back. I just dont like not being able to do what I normally do... but each day gets better. I want to thank each one of you for keeping me in your thoughts an prayers it really means alot to me an my family. I really learned the power of prayer these past couple months.
Most important I was so happy to make it home by FEB 18 which was my 23rd birthday....

THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART :elephant::treadmill2::flowers:

Sorry to hear about those nasty things. I think it was photo nut that asked, but was this related to the port surgery (well I guess I answered my own question below-you had the Heparin because of the surgery, so yes it was related)? I too have asthma and don't want to think that my breathing problems could lead my down the same path. If I am reading correctly sounds like you may have had some issues that were undiagnosed and not related to LBS (some family history). I didn't realize that stones could create kidney failure. I’ll be sure to have them check if I have any. You mentioned allergic to Heparin. Did you take this before the surgery or after? I have read many posts where people were not given any type of blood thinner at all. I read on a site that an allergic reaction to Heparin will cause unusually low blood pressure (septic shock). I also read that septic shock can cause asthma like symptoms such as problems breathing. Maybe you didn’t have an asthma attack and the breathing problem was actually caused by your allergic reaction to the medication. I am not a dr. or anything, just what I have read. Continued get-well wishes from the West Coast…
