Question....How many of you lost weight before surgery, and if you did how much. I am having surgery 3 weeks from tomorrow, and am trying to lose a few. I actually have gained about 4 lbs. since my first doctors visit. I would love to loose about 10, but I feel like I am about to hibernate, so I am eating everything in sight!!!! Thanks guys!

Most of us go through some sore of "last meal syndrome" to at least some degree. It wasn't too bad for me - just a couple of treats in the last few days before the pre-op diet. Despite what we know to be true about banding life, we have a hard time accepting that we are going to be able to enjoy all the things we love again, just not for awhile.
My surgeon said not to worry too much about losing weight, just try not to put any more on before surgery. I know for other people that advice is different, with some being required to lose weight to make the surgery safer. The reasons for this requirement seems to depend on the individual's health issues, body size, body shape or surgeon's preferences.
I was told that the weight loss phase begins once the band has healed and the fill is adjusted, which is AT LEAST 8 weeks after surgery. After all, that's the whole point of getting banded!
Enjoy your journey - kudos to you if you are able to lose weight prior to surgery, but don't stress about it too much if you can't (unless your surgeon has required you to lose some weight first). Rather, focus on keeping as healthy as possible - take some exercise, get plenty of sleep, have a healthy diet and quality multi vitamin / minerals. You don't want to get sick or be run down before surgery. Apart from running the risk of having to postpone, your pre-op general health will play a large role in determining how well and quickly you heal, and whether or not you will have any complications.
All the best, keep us updated as to your progress!
