Hello Everyone,
I am new at this site banded in Chicago at Rush Medical Center by Dr.Myers on 2-18-08 so pretty soon it will be my 1st Banded Anniversary  yep I have not regreated a day for taking that step. I couldn't have lost weight without it I tried for years and couldn't but I was running out of time seriously my heart dr said if I didn't lose weight I'd be dead in a year... but through the miracle of the band and the healthier life style I have now I am looking forward to many more years. I am almost 60 so I have learned your never too old to learn things.
Oh sorry I got carried away the problem I am having is really bad acid reflux with sores in my mouth :ohwell: I went to the dentist primary care dr. no one seems to know the what is causing it. Right now I have revamped my multi vit more B12 in this pill and I have added zinc read on internet lack of zinc cause cause sores in mouth. Any one has anyone had this problem?? any advice??? Looking forward to chatting with others on this site.
Have a Great Day:sun_smiley:

Congrats on being banded almost a year!!
I would call your band Dr right away because of the acid reflux. Not sure if that is causing the sores in your mouth, but the reflux could be dangerous for your band. Maybe you need a slight unfill? He may also suggest an antacid like Prilosec, but he needs to be in the loop and let you know what to do.
Good luck and welcome to the site!!!

My husband was just diagnosed with geographic tongue which is caused by the papillae falling off and regrowing. There is swelling, and discolored tongue and general mouth irritation also associated with it as well.

Our primary care doc and dentist both missed the diagnosis and our dentist finally referred him to an oral surgeon (MD) who finally took tissue samples and made a conclusive diagnosis.

I would strongly suggest that you go that route. Oral surgeons are the most familiar with problems of the mouth which can range from minor to very serious.

We did a lot of on-line research ourselves, tried things like zinc and B vitamines, but nothing helped. In fact, all the research caused us additional confusion and worry.

I wish he had gone to a specialist 3 years ago when he first started having symptoms. It would have saved us a lot of time and money trying to treat other conditions.

And I agree with what Kat said above. Reflux is nothing to mess around with when you have a band. Whether it is what is causing the sores in your mouth or not, reflux can lead to or be a sign of significant band-related problems--usually easily treated when handled in a timely manner.

Good luck to you and keep us posted.

Ann, I agree with others that recommend seeing your band doctor. I have been too tight for a month and it was causing problems, mostly with PB'ing and spitting up. Thankfully I did not have many problems with acid reflux though. I went in last Wednesday and had .25 cc's taken out down to a total of 5.25 cc's in a 10 cc AP lap band. It has made a world of difference. I too am at about the same point in the band journey as you are since I was banded on March 11th last year, so we are band kin. Welcome to the sight.

Hey Ann, I would definitely suggest you to see your doc. I started having those same symptoms, and it led to a slipped band. I'm in the waiting period to see if it goes back in place, but yeah, don't wait it out and hope it goes away.

Hope you feel better!
