:needhug:
Many of you will know me - many won't - I am the Aussie member in your friendly "Mod Squad", although I haven't been in here much lately due to work pressures and the madness that is life on IVF... ...but anyways, hi to everyone, I'm here to call out for a group hug if that's ok with you all...

... you see, I've just been diagnosed with a slipped band. :crap:

This follows a 3 day episode of tightening, heartburn and finally vomiting that happened just after New Year, which was only partially rectified by a partial unfill two weeks ago (the vomiting and most of the heartburn stopped, but not the discomfort). There is no identifiable cause for the tightening, I have no recollection of getting anything stuck during that time, in fact, I was going really well (or so I thought). Yesterday morning when I got to work I threw up water again, which was a shock. I immediately went and had a complete unfill and was sent off for a barium x-ray. Unfortunately, it showed my band has slipped.

I am off to see the surgeon tomorrow morning - and am likely to have my band replaced either Friday or next Tuesday, depending upon what he says.

I just have to deal with whatever happens now, but like many who find themselves in this situation, I can't believe that it happened to me. I am in shock, and feel like a complete failure. Sigh... There's nothing I can do about it now except deal with it and move forwards. Hopefully at the end of all of this I will be a better bandster for the experience.

The timing really sucks though, I started a great new job just last week, and already have to have time off for surgery and recovery, grrr! At least I should be able to work on my laptop from home for a few days.

Whinge over, thanks in advance for your prayers and support.
Anna the Goanna.

Hi Anna - I'm so sorry to hear about your band. But you are NOT a failure - your band failed you - not the other way around...generally these things just "happen" and you're off to get a new band soon enough. Congrats on the new job!!! You'll rock your new band just like the old - hugs!!!! We miss you!

Anna, I am so sorry! That stinks and it is so interested to hear how it happened, or rather how you're not even sure how it happened. Wow. There have been quite a few slips lately (which is a bit un-nerving) but it seems like most people have been able to have them replaced no problem. Please keep us updated on your progress and please visit more often - we miss you! :)

So sorry to hear your band slipped. I've been so worried that mine will because I've been throwing up again 2 or 3 times a week. Did you have a lot of symptoms before it slipped?

Wishing you the BEST on getting back on track once the band is back in place.

Cheri, Mo (sweet Mo), Betty, Kristina, Nick & Ava’s Granny (nice new nickname – and a new grandbaby!!!), newlife, Stacey, Holza (I know who you are “local” girl… **wink, wink**), graciesaunt, Neal (you are a rock!), Ali (I always feel like you are really here hugging me…, Janice and Jess (my “band sister”, LOL):

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! I am very heartened by your thoughts, which are proof that the good old b2g family can be relied upon to lift up one of it’s own. THANK YOU!!!

Update:
I am scheduled for my band replacement next Tuesday morning, back at The Valley with the lovely Mr Chris Hensman presiding. That man is a saint. He says I am to stop “caning myself” over the slip. It’s a device issue according to him, rather than a “Goanna” issue. He says bands slip, it happens. Now we need to replace it and move on.

I’m working on the not “caning myself” bit, making progress there, although slowly. I think I am over the worst of the shock now and getting ready to move forwards to recovery. I’m also working hard to stay properly hydrated. I can drink alright, but keeping the electrolytes in balance is tricky.

I’m off with DH over the weekend to buy a new car. My old one is long in the tooth, and the car allowance from the new job means that at last I can replace it! Yippee! Nothing like some serious shopping to take a Goanna’s mind off her woes… (Although Ali, I don’t think I’ll be getting a Smartie like yours – I don’t fancy country highways in something that small, as much as I’d love it for zipping around town.)

Thanks again everyone, you’ve really helped.

Good luck on the upcoming replacement Anna! Also, please stop beating yourself up over it, as the doctor said it WAS NOT you that did this! ((hugs))

Anna!

So glad the replacement is going to happen so quickly for you. You sound a lot better, and what you consider "whining", I consider some well-deserved self-concern. You're going to be fine.

Hooray for new bands! and doctors with the proper mindset -- he's right - it isn't you - it's a malfunction....think of it as a "car" -- if it malfunctions, generally it is the car's fault (or the maker of the car) and the band is the same way -- just time for a tune-up of sorts (in this case a haul the old one out and put a new one in!) -- keep us updated and let us know how it goes next week :)

Oh, great news that its all being fixed up Anna.

I'm glad that you're here, where it gets fixed, no questions asked, no insurance company mucking about, no waiting for approval. It just gets done becuase it needs to be.

Best of luck.

You know, I've got a friend IRL who has a band and she'd had very little luck with it, lost 30kg of the 50 she needed to, put 20 back on, stayed at 80kg for 2 years. Never had much luck with restriction, always either too tight, too loose. Awful acid reflux issues if she had decent fill.

Anyway, she and her surgeon decided to take the blasted thing out and replace it with a newer model. The found a hernia in there for starters, but the new band is making ALL the difference. Who knows, slightly different placement, whatever, but she's losing weight steadily and well after a couple of years over beating herself about the head for what she saw as her failure.

Hi everyone,
I can't believe it's the end of April already! Where did that last 3 months go???

I am pleased to report that I am still kicking down here in the Land of Oz, and have a lovely new, perfectly functioning band. :)

Thanks so much for your prayers and thoughts - even in the midst of my neglect of you all.

Looking forward to catching up with everyone around here again.
Hugs,
Goanna.

Call me crazy, but I'm almost 10 months into the band and have had acid reflux twice this weekend (both times I was bending over to get something when the acid rose)...and I want to know do you pay the same amount for new band to go in when your other one slips? I'm so paranoid about my band slipping that anytime I get nausea, I'm on the phone with the surgeon's office. I'm usually told it's my body telling me its experiencing low blood sugar or Stress related.

So seriously...what is the average cost if someone banded has to be rebanded due to a slipped band?
