Well, it finally happened. Everyone said it would and even though I was determined that I would NEVER have a PB episode, I did this morning.
I had cooked a nice pot roast in the slow cooker overnight and was packing some in Dawg's luch this morning when I decided to do my usual "nibble as I prep" thing. The first bite was small.. no problem. The next bite was small too, but kind of dry so I chewed and chewed as I worked around the kitchen, focused on getting the lunch packed. I realized that the meat wasnt breaking down well as I chewed it, so I had the brilliant idea of grabbing the jar of applesauce from the fridge - I'd just add a small bite to the bite of meat and surely that would moisten it enough. NOT.
I swallowed that bite and felt it stick. The gurgling started. The pain started. So, in all my wisdom, I think, 'Ah ha! Hot coffee will counteract that cold applesauce and open this right up again." I took one sip of hot coffee.. looked at Dawg and said, "Yeehaw" and headed for the bathroom! I then spent 15 minutes sliming and blowing bubbles until I finally threw up a tiny bit of applesauce! I was still stuck after that, but it wasn't as painful and soon I felt the rest of that bite squeeze thru. My god that hurt.
I remember thinking, as I was sticking that fork down into the cold applesauce jar, "Ah now this is smart. I'm remembering great tricks to help moisten meat. I should share this tip with everyone." LOL!
So here's the tip I have to share with you this morning. Actually I have several. Ready? Here goes:
1. If you are chewing something that you can tell isn't going to chew to goo... SPIT IT OUT!
2. Do not add very cold liquids or foods to a meal. It will cause things in there to contract as a reaction to the cold and things will get crappy from that point!
3. It's probably best not to try to eat roast beef first thing in the morning. Especially two days after an adjustment. *clears throat* Yeaaaahhh...
4. Pride goeth before a PB!
5. Never, ever, NEVER let yourself forget that you are a bandster and you MUST eat like a bandster. Eat slowly. Chew each bite until its nothing but goo in your mouth before you swallow.
6. When you feel that stuck feeling, for crying out loud.. DONT PUT MORE IN YOUR MOUTH!
That's all from the P'Nut gallery this morning. Now for a day of liquids, which means no lunch at Sizzler with my bandster buds today. Damnit.
