I was banded on Tuesday, 11/18. Ever since, every time I stand up and walk around I get the hiccups. The doctor said that it wouldn't hurt anything and wasn't all that concerned, but it hurts! Anybody else have this problem or am I the only weird one (which is entirely possible :neener:). Any suggestions on how to handle this, other than having someone scare me each time I stand up.

LOL Steph- hiccups are common..sometimes they are a sign that we are full...some peoples (me) noses run when they are full...just count urself lucky..LOL..i know it hurts right outta surgery..everything does in that area...it gets better..most importantly- it IS normal. your doing wonderfully!

Thanks Kristina for the reassurance! The PA I saw on the day after surgery thought I was joking when I asked him about it.

I've had them too, a couple of times. Not fun! I think I ate too much the other night, I felt terrible pain in my left shoulder! How weird is that? Almost had my first PB....but I spit out what I was chewing in my mouth and it the feeling went away. Something new happens everyday!!!:heh:

I've gotten tighter now with my sixth fill since my June 08 surgery. I have hiccups sometimes and PB's sometimes. I am now finding that the hiccups are good because that means the food is being pushed down and I finally get relief, If I have a PB that means its coming back out and I hate it when that happens. Either way, I find it frustrating but I am glad that I can't eat because I'm finally losing weight. I guess it's the lesser of two evils
My fill doctor showed me a 2 oz shot glass and said that is how big my pouch is and that it is important to know how much you are trying to get down there at one time. That's always my problem.... too much, too fast... not enough chewing, for long enough... I'm definitely struggling with it, but I'm losing weight so I'll live with it.

I get hiccups after i eat/drink anything. it could be water, protein drink, or food, and it doesn't necessarily mean i can't eat any more. I could take one or two bites and if i just pause, i will hiccup. It is so weird. I don't burp...I hiccup. i used to burp without any problems, but now I hiccup. I usually make everyone around me laugh because it comes out like a sweak. Now without a fill my hiccups are not so squeaky, but they are still hiccups.

and then the mod stumbles in...
just kidding... i totally had hiccups after surgery and would hold my stomach to minimize the convulsing - ok they weren't violent but being sore they felt rough!! I still get hiccups more often than before surgery. Betty I've never heard of hiccupping during such activity but it will really make me laugh if it ever happens now!!!
Steph, by the way, you are cute as a BUTTON!! Love the pic with your doggie!! I still do the 10 sips of water thing to stop my hiccups but they are microscopic sips - lol!! Hang in there and don't be afraid to take those pain meds - i'm not a big advocate of being in pain for fun.

LOL I have never had that happen but that would be funny!
I do get them it is a warning sign to slow down when eating! I wonder if it means slow down during sex? lol
For me I get them when I am full. It is a true indication to stop eating!!

I think Betty just gave away what kind of sex she is performing that would cause her to hiccup! Slow down Betty!
And most men would find it awkward when someone laughs after sex.... he probably wondered all night what he did so wrong that would make you laugh. Betty, good way to keep your man under control! Don't let him get too confident! Poor guy!

Not to worry Jeralin!!! I have everything under control and he is a VERY confident man!!!! He was totally aware of the reason for the hiccups. It also had nothing to do with needing to slow down. It is totally band related.

We believe you Betty and thank goodness your man is okay!
LOL! I once had a relationship that I would kind of giggle afterward and it wasn't band related.... that used to drive him crazy! I know to this day he must have wondered why I always giggled!
Anyway, back to hiccups... lately I have been getting them after this last fill and it seems that it is a sign that my food is going to actually go down and not get PB's back up.... right now, for me, hiccups are a good thing... for Betty's man guy, hiccups not a good thing!

Since surgery I have gotten hiccups too. I call it my soft stop... because when I am eating and begin hiccuping that means I am full and should stop. If I continue on then I will pb or be very uncomfortable.

Brandy... right on!
I get that soft-stop at times too... especially if I am eating a cakey or doughy food. AND, at those times, I fond it is a lot less VOLUME of food to get to the stop too...
Ever do the hiccup, and then suddenly burp in the middle of one?
Gross.
Loud too.
