1.I am on medicaid and medicare Can Medicaid and medicare Pay if I have the Lap Band surgery? Yes they will, I was self-pay but I know there are ppl on here that had that ins.
2. What do I have to expect before Lap Band Surgery? Lot's of tests and doctors appointments along with a lot of education
3. Do you Spend the Night in the Hospital After Lap Band Surgery? I did but not all surgeons have you spend the night. I'm glad I did because I wound up not being able to urinate and had to be catheterized....it was due to the anesthesia...everyone reacts differently.
4. What do I have to expect after Lap Band Surgery? Not sure what you mean....
5. Do you get sick a lot from Lap Band Surgery? If you don't follow the band rules you will get sick.
6. Can you return to work the Next day after Lap Band Surgery? I highly doubt it! It is major surgery and you need to rest so you can heal.

Welcome to B2G, there are wonderful people on here so ask any questions you have!!

1.I am on medicaid and medicare Can Medicaid and medicare Pay if I have the Lap Band surgery? Everyone's insurance is different, you have to call up your insurance company and learn about their qualifications. However, there are people on here that have used this insurance to be covered.
2. What do I have to expect before Lap Band Surgery? I am not banded yet, but I can definitely answer this question since I am going through the process now. My insurance requires my weight, BMI, measurments, photos of me neck down, 6 month supervised weight loss program. My hospital that I am looking to have the surgery requires a $400 fee for this 6 month program. It will include psych evaluations, sleep anea tests, bariatrician visits, and support group meetings once per month. Some surgeons will also put you on a post-op liquid diet for easier access during the surgery.
3. Do you Spend the Night in the Hospital After Lap Band Surgery? Most patients do not spend the night in the hospital. most are out after a few hours after surgery, little down time, and i love that about this surgery!
4. What do I have to expect after Lap Band Surgery? Basically it is all about trial and error. You will learn to chew very very small bites, SLOWLY. You will learn that some foods are more tolerated then others with your band. Some foods may get stuck, if you eat too fast or don't chew well enough...this can cause productive burping (meaning spitting up). acid reflux and nausea as well as throwing up can occur if you eat the wrong foods (every individual is different). You will notice that you will feel satisfied with only 1 cup of food...and you will need fills every few months, which will control the amount of restriction your band is giving you.
5. Do you get sick a lot from Lap Band Surgery? It depends on how well you follow the guidelines, but in the beginning I hear it is more common because like I said, trial and error. Once you have a bad experience with a type of food, you may learn your lesson next time to chew better, eat slower, or just realize you don't need it in your life at all.
6. Can you return to work the Next day after Lap Band Surgery? Most likely not. I don't believe there is any weight loss surgery out there that allows you to get back to work the very next day...Maybe a week or two? but not the next day...it is a major surgery, although minimally invasive, still major.

The funny thing is, I haven't been banded yet, but this website has helped me learn all the ins and outs of lapband surgery...you have to READ everything on here..it is from lap banders PERSONAL experience...what better way to learn about it than from someone who is going through the experience right now? When I came here, I had the same questions as you did, and many people told me to READ READ READ..so please, do your homework, there is so much to learn about this surgery, but i cannot WAIT until i have it....I hope my information has been factual, since I haven't been banded, I cannot tell you from personal experience..but as you can see, i read a lot lol.
good luck to you, hope you make the right choice =)

You're a very good student Melissa :)

Welcome to the site Channing.. and like everyone has said.. just read read read .. take notes, read some more, take more notes, ask questions, take notes .. you get the idea :)

When I went in to see my surgeon I had a list of questions and he laughed and said I won the prize for the most questions asked.. I asked him if that was a bad thing.. he said "NOOOOOOOOOOO.. I LOVE it when a patient is informed, it makes them more successful!!" ..

Welcome aboard!!
