Okay, now that is over with! Thank God! I was so nervous, now I'm worried. I think I'm just freaking my self out for now reason. It just seemed too easy. He asked me a whole bunch of questions for like 30 minutes and that was it. No MMPI or anything else. Should I have done an MMPI? any other testing? What exactly are the doctor's offices looking for in these evaluations? I'm so confused!

What we look for is the evaulations. We don't use the test unless your insurance wants it. So don't worry....
When I had mine done the doc said I need 6 months of treatments with him. Got a 2nd opinion and he said that I was more then ready to go. Then when I started working for Dr V - I learned I wasn't the only one that my first psych doc said that to...he tells EVERYONE that. HELLO we all can't need help. hehe.
So no worries you will do fine there is always 2nd opinions and follow-up visits.

This guy didn't indicate any follow-up visits. I gave him Dr. B's card to put in my file so he could fax or mail it to him. He said he'd get it out soon, he saw no psychological reason not to proceed. I was afraid that wasn't going to be enough but it sounds like it is! Yeah!
Now I just have to get through the upper GI on Friday. Yuck.

Tonya, I just had mine done and he said that what they look for is depression. Maybe that is what yours was looking for too. Be happy that you are all in the clear!!!

... and to expand upon what Idahobeauty said, depression isn't an automatic cause not to approve your surgery. I have a long history of depression. The psychologist I went to chose to do a test (not as extensive as an MMPI), and we talked about my family & mental history. I was probably with her for 1 1/2 hours total. Although she cautioned me about my depression, for which I have taken medication for years, she did approve me for surgery, and even said she thought I'd make a good candidate.

They are not only looking for depression but there are many overweight people who have eating disorders. So they want to make sure those are caught prior to surgery so your surgery no matter which one is a success.

I failed my psycho test. Took it again two weeks later and passed. Ah what a difference two weeks makes in a person's life. Turned my whole world around and brought me back to sanity. I remember crying when I left the office after failing. I remember crying when I left the office two weeks later after being told I was good to go. It was a stressful time, wondering if something was going to get in the way of my last hope for life. That psych said, "you are severely depressed and I recommend counselling before you have any surgery done" and I looked at him with big tears rolling down my face and said, "Im depressed because I'm so fat. Please don't take away my only hope.. please?" So he agreed to let me come back and try again.
For pete's sake. Do they really think that they can cure depression when we are 200 pounds overweight and just want to die when we see our reflections in the mirror??
*sighs*
I'm glad it went well for you, Tonya. *hugs*
