I am hoping someone can give me advice tonight. I had my fill on this past Tuesday. I did a day and a half of liquids, then mushies and then I moved to the solids on friday. Well when I started eating some chicken might I add i have never had a problem with chicken til now it got stuck so bad that I had to go and make myself throw up. This was when I decided I should stick to liquids for the next couple of days, Now I cant even get water down it burns and then I feel like it is stuck. Funny thing is I am not even thirsty and I am just trying to get something into me. I have not ate anything since Friday afternoon and i probally only had about 3 glasses of water. i feel lightheaded and tire. My doctors office is closed tomorrow so there is nothing I can do. Does anyone have a solution til tuesday.
What do I do?

Vickie, it seems as though you are too tight. Sometimes it takes a few days for the fill to kick in. If you can't even get water down, you need to IMMEDIATELY get a partial unfill. The last thing you want to do is get dehydrated and pass out.

I strongly recommend that you call your doctor ASAP tomorrow morning and ask for an emergency unfill appointment.

P.S. This happened to me back in late April/early May and I wasn't able to eat or drink anything for 4 days.

Vickie,
You may want to call he Doctors office and see if there is someone on call. If you are feeling lightheaded and you are unable to hold down water, that is not good. You may need a slight unfill if you can't even hold down water. I don't know what anyone else's doctor tells them but I'm always told after my fill, that if i'm lightheaded, throwing up or can't hold down water then I need to call my Doc. ASAP.

Just a reminder, when ever you eat any type of meat it's always good to make sure you use broth or some type of sauce to make the meat very moist. It should help you out and as always, make sure you take small bites and chew chew chew. :D

Best of luck to you.... I hope all goes well for you! Please let us know how things worked out for you.

Hey Vickie, So sorry to hear about your troubles. I think this is a common goof made by all bandsters. When we don't have enough restriction, we get accustomed to being able to eat foods quickly and easily, and we get out of the habit of having to take small bites and chew till it's goo. Then we get a fill and don't adjust our eating habits to compensate for the added restriction. It is possible that your esophagus is irritated and swollen from the self induced vomiting. Have you tried some warm broth or tea? Kathy recommends Papaya juice (is that right, was it papaya?) I'll check on that and let you know for sure. Anyway, it is always strongly recommended to go on a couple of days of liquids after a PB incident that involves throwing up. If you can get warm tea or broth down you might be ok until you can see the Doctor. If you can't, then you do need to call the office and find out who's on call for emergencies. Delaying an unfill of a band that is that tight could lead to more serious and even long-term complications.

Please keep us posted on what's going on with you, ok?
*hugs*

PS. Ooo, ooo! I just remembered. Kathy recommends Aloe Vera juice. She swears by its healing agents for swollen and irritated esophaguses.

Hey P'nut, I understand your PM now!

Yup, it's Aloe Vera juice, but Vickie, if you are too tight to swallow water, I'd for sure call your doc. Some folks like to try and rescue their fill from an unfill...but that's really between you and your doc. If you MUST find a way to wait, I'd get some Egg Drop Soup from the local chinese take-out. It's warm, gooey, and nourishing, slides right on down. Unless you are totally blocked, egg drop soup should get past the band if you sip small. Then try sipping the aloe vera juice. You can get it in a berry flavored at Wal Mart. Less than $5.

Too tight stinks! Please get some relief soon, okay? And keep us posted!

Hey Girls
Thank You all for replying. After I read Tricia's responce this morning I call my doctor. He told me to go right to the Emergency room. I was Dehydrated. He had me do the Barium swallow test along with Xrays to make sure my band did not slip or erode. Everything is fine. Dr. Randall might I add is unbelievable he met me at the hospital and I did not have to even wait to be registered he had already took care of that. He did unfill me completely so now I have to do 1 week of liquids 1 week of mushies and then 1 week of solids. Then I will go in for a fill. I know that i have read that people have had a partial unfill I did mention this to the doc but he said he rather be safe than sorry. I was his 12th lapband patient and this is the first time it has happened, so more or less I am his experiment. Which I do not mind because he has been doing the gastric bypass now for 22 years. So right now as I type this I am drinking my carnation instant breakfast and the hubby is going to pick up eggdrop soup after work that is my favorite soup ever. I would of never survived post opp without it:p .
Kathy I have tried the aloe juice as a matter of fact i keep them stocked up since both my husband and I have had the lapband. Also our doctor told us that we should have some on those tight days.
So now that I have no restricition what should I eat.............. JUST Kidding
Again thank you guys for the great advice and did I tell mention that I love Band2gether.net

Good call, Vickie! So happy to hear that you took Tricia's advice, that your Dr is so awesome and that your band is fine!

My Dr. unfilled me completely when I was too tight. I think its a great plan to let things settle down long enough to determine what is a good fill level. I like the way your Dr thinks and the way he took care of you.

Good news all around! Yay!

hahahahahahahaha...........you make me laugh P'nut

Vickie- I got myself dehydrated twice since being banded. It's not fun. Now you know the symptoms and how to prevent it from happening again. Good Luck and take it easy
