View Full Version : Still tight with no fill in

Well I ended up in the emergency room on Friday - have been throwing up so much that I started to throw up blood. Realize I have a empty band in. I did call my surgeon on Friday morning and he personally scheduled a swallow test for me on Monday afternoon. The results from the hospital and the CT scan showed no damage to the GI upper and lower but did find out that I have a pneumonia and two cysts on my pelvis. Good news I have not damaged my GI which was why I went in. The bad news is that I am still so tight I can only eat once a day. I am considering having the band removed and then having a larger one put in. The hospital gave me the cadillac of acid reflux and vomiting drugs(which is given to those who are getting chemo). I feel so much better with no notices of the acid reflux at this time. I see the surgeon next week also. Has anyone else felt tight and no fill in?? I am trying to figure out what to do. I LOVE my band but also I do not want my health to be an issue because of the band. I hope that makes sense.

Sharon -- I'm sorry to hear you've gone through all of this! I put up a thread about two weeks ago -- I went through a similar experience with the vomiting that wouldn't stop - but not to your degree.
I can't help but wonder - with being too tight still-- is there any chance you are dehydrated? I know you have other health issues going on - and we never know what that does to impact the band itself -- but I have found that after getting a 1cc unfill (now have 3.5 instead of 4.5cc's in a 10cc band) AND drinking LOTS of liquid - I no longer feel that tight and impossible to eat feeling like I was having prior to the ER visit.
Now I drink 24 oz of water "before" breakfast -- and then 24 oz between lunch and dinner, and another 24 oz after dinner. I feel it has changed my banded experience with food tremendously --- so I just wanted to share this with you. I thought I was drinking enough but obviously, for me, I wasn't.
Please keep us posted as you continue with your band journey and health issues.

Ooooh, yikes Sharon - that sounds awful!! I do know of someone who was banded at my same hospital who has no fill and still has a really hard time eating. She never even would consider a fill because the band alone is actually too much restriction for her. I haven't spoken with her in a long time to see how she is doing long term, but last I checked she was at 185 and fighting against having the band removed, since that was the only thing my surgeon felt he could do to help her.
Her story sounds very different from yours though. I really hope things are figured out for you and you are feeling better soon!

Thanks for the feedback. It could be that I am not getting enough liquids in. I am going to try that and call my doctor this am about my ER visit. I would hate to have the lap band removed so I am willing to try whatever I need. I will let you know what happens!!!

Well, I went to the doctor for a swallow test and it looks like I have a slippage. So, for now I am getting IV fluids and drinking as much as possible. I see the surgeron next Monday - he is out on military training and I only trust him. I go to see my primary doctor tomorrow for other issues that the CT scan picked up on. I getting dehydrated so I am drinking as much as I can. As for the tightness, the radiologist sees that I have no room left and so the feeling of tightness is because of the lack of space even with a 10CM band. I was told to prepare for another surgery most likely VERY SOON with the next week to remove the band and then heal. Then see if I can even hold the band. I have think there is a reason that this is happening, not sure why yet. Thanks for the support!!!

I'm so sorry to hear your band is slipped- but at least that explains all of your problems and the ER visit -- HUGS! Praying your surgeon gets back and fast to get that band out -- and see what else is going on in there.

Thanks to everyone here for their support. It is hard for others who have not had eating issues or banding done why I cried when they said they will have to remove it most likely. I am taking care of myslef - drinking what I can but with the swalllow test today, I am not hungry at all. I sleep at a 45 degree angle so that I do not have so much pain. I am started to come to terms and feel that having the band removed is the only way to get better. This drama is to contiune. THANKS EVERYONE!!!!

Well I go into surgery on Monday to have the band removed completely. If I am able to get another one it will not be for awhile. I am sad but need to heal so I am able to keep food and drinks down. The military is sending my husband home for at least 30 days or longer. This will not only help me but with our 10 year old son. Today was a another day at the doctor getting IV fluids again. The support has been so wonderful - I can only say thanks!!!

I'm so happy to hear that your hubby is coming home to take care of you! I'm sorry to hear you are going to have to get your band removed - but you need your health FIRST -- worry about another band down the road. Right now you need a lot of TLC and time to heal. Praying for an easy surgery and recovery. HUGS!

Last night I went back in for IV treatments and will have surgery Monday morning. They moved me up to 6:00 am. I have decided to ask the doctor to let me keep the lapband (after it has been cleaned). I am hoping that this will give me the visual reminders that I need to not put weight back on. I am willing to trying this until or if I can have the band back. Thanks!!!

sharon...today was your surgery day. i am so sorry that i am just now finding this. i have been so consumed with my own health issues that i fear i was not here for you when u needed me most. for that i am sorry. but i am here now. and i am in prayer for your complete and amazing recovery. i am so sorry that it came to this, and i know this may seem a little shallow right now, but you already look amazing!!!! if yall could see her...she looks like she has never heard of WLS!!
so now you rest and you allow your body to heal...and when your all better, i will be your biggest helper. we can work out together, talk on the phone, make good food choices together! you will not gain back what you have worked so hard to take off. you wont. i am so glad hubby is on the way...thank God...just having him by your side is going to boost your spirits and make you heal even faster. if there is anything you need at all...anything...do not hesitate to ask!!!!
God be with you....update soon....
kiss and huggs...big giant yet gentle healing huggs!

Sorry I have not responded sooner. Yesterday I was up for about one hour and then in bed for the rest of the day. Today, I so more energy. Yesterday the surgeron called and even the OR room - I guess I was sicker then I thought. Our school nurse brought dinner by for the family (I am not eating much at all now) and stated that my color looked so much better. Learning to eat again will take time so I am going SLOW. Thanks again for everyone's support!!!

I agree that you need more fluids I drink warm tea in the morning and sometimes I do not eat until 11am Get as much fluids in as you can even if you are sipping on a protien shake throughout the day. Get a heating pad when I had the pain it really helped. I was banded on 9/26 I havent been hungry at all I have lost 17 lbs. I make my self get enough protien and water in and things are going well hopefully you hang in there longer and keep trying. Good luck Use the heating pad it really helps
