ut oh I just swallowed my gum :(

has anyone ever done that with the band? I'm freaking out. I just put a piece in my mouth and took a swig of water and oops down it went, dont know how?
I tried to bring it up to no avail so now Im drinking tons of water, any other suggestions???

Well if it went through to your stomach you will pass it out the back end and if it is on top of the stoma it will come up. If it's in between and stuck you'll know. In those cases sometimes you have to in and have your surgeon take it out. How are you feeling now?

hi ty for your reply. I feel ok no pain or anything, just freaking out that it might get stuck...not sure how long it would take to find out if it sticks.

Have you called your surgeon and let him/her know? They might have a suggestion to help you get the gum out of your body faster (and safer). Keep us posted and good luck getting rid of the gum.

I just called my Surgeons office, the recept. said dont worry, it should be fine, but call if I experience any pain.

Ok I did a quick search on dissolving chewing gum.. So far I have found wine, and cooking oil..

I would suggest that you do not go out of your way to flush it thru or to disolve it. If you dont have any pain, then relax... it probably went thru on its own. If you've been drinking water with no problems, chances are it's already gone. I think if it were going to get stuck, you'd have known right away.

I have done that and I personally did nothing and just went on about my day. I didn't have any pain or anything....Good Luck passing the gum. :)

Been there, done that! Swallowed my gum as a fairly new bandster and freaked. It was fine.

I think some folks on the board suggested a teaspoon of peanut butter. I guess it helps break the gum down. Seems like I heard the same thing for helping get gum out of your hair.

You'll be fine. If I've done it once, I've done it a million times. No problem. It was actually on GMA today and they said that unless you swallowed about twenty trillion tons of gum, it was fine.
