how can I get stuck on food yet still be able to eat or drink without pb or slime?

This has happened to me about 4 times. Chicken, tuna salad, fish cakes and now (I think) some beans in a soup.

I am eating small bites, chewing like cow with cud (and just as attractive), putting my fork down and and and.

Suddenly I feel like I inhaled a little water after swimming, a small piece of whatever that I can feel move around if I burp, cough or just sit on my butt. It feels like it is trying to go down or up.

But it is not blocking it, I can drink hot or cold, I can gulp water, I can eat. All that goes down. Yet that little piece of whatever is still stuck with that pressing feeling in my sternum and drives me crazy.

I have tried everything to make it move but cannot. It eventually goes down (I guess since I don't bring it up). Sometimes after 3 days! I go to sleep and notice the feeling isn't there in the morning. Or I go about my day and suddenly notice the feeling is gone.

How and why do other things go around it? Shouldn't it be blocking other stuff?

Do you all now what I'm talking about?

I've heard that pineapple juice helps! I've been told it works wonders and some ppl keep a small can in their purses just for these situations. I've had that same feeling you are talking about, but not for as long as you. Yikes! 3 days!!???

Diva, I've been thinking about this...and you are right, it doesn't seem possible to have something stuck and still be able to eat and drink...perhaps it's swelling? Maybe what you are feeling isn't a piece of food, but an irritated/swollen stoma? If it were me, I'd swig some Sprite. And I'd be drinking my aloe vera juice, especially at night. I have never tried pineapple juice...??? Maybe it works because it's acidic and thick? Worth a shot.

Diva,
I agree with Kathy,
because you can eat and drink without problems and it doesnt go away for a long preriod of time, I think you may have a sentstive spot in your esopagus or stoma, it gets irrtated and gives you the feeliing that something is stuck.. AV juice may do the trick, but maybe speak with your Dr, you may need a a acid reducer too. I would stay away from high acid food and drinks for a while too.

Just got back from my 2nd fill. So now I have 2 cc's in 4cc band.
Asked the surgeon and the PA about this weird stucky problem. They said that sometimes a little piece of food can get stuck but not enough to plug up the stoma. It has to work its way down by itself. And it of course, depends on big bites and flaky food.
Since I am on liquids due to the fill, he said it will go down pretty soon and to concentrate on bite sizes He also said it feels huge but is so tiny that it isn't enough to pb.
Still wierd feeling though, not pain just wierd.

I too have something stuck but the only thing I had was cream of wheat today...ugh....when i lay down i feel like I am dying!!! I even drank hot tea and hot water to dislodge it!! I have no AV juice, no Sprite, and no Pineapple juice, but what if I had a tiny bit of diet pepsi???? Please let me know...thanks!!

I say go for the diet pepsi (not the whole can) and bring up a burp.
If you can drink or eat it just stuck to part of the stoma. They said drinking to push it down doesn't work, the liquid just goes around it. Even warm liquid which I tried and tried.
It will pass but I don't have a clue on why cream of wheat would pull a fast one on you like that. Maybe it got gunky.

Once I had a PB from an overfill. I went several days with that stuck feeling. I could barely get down water. When I went in they did a barium swallow first. The barium went down as there was no blockage. I felt that stuck feeling. They took some out, I drank, and I felt great.

I think we get that feeling sometimes when we are swollen or irritated. The feeling is the same so we "think" something is stuck. Just my 2 cents.
