Hi all,
Surgery 6/18/08

My question is I am on liquids as you all know, but I was given some pills to take for GERD. I took one last night and I feel as if something is caught in my throat.

I am also a lil gassy so I am not sure ifit is just gas. I am sipping water but I don't feel well, still feels like something is stuck in y throat. I put in a call to my Dr and I am waiting for a response, so I am writing in the meantime for support. CAn yone with this in the past? Suggestions? Advanced thanks to all.

Hi RD, welcome to bandland.

I had the same sensation, but it was from the ent tube they stuck down my throat. The entire first and second day I felt like I needed to cough. I just kept sipping water and eventually it went away. Of course I am not a doctor nor do I play one on tv, so of course ask your MD.

Gas wise, there is only one cure. The bandster shuffle....walk walk walk sip sip sip (repeat).

Meantime...you are doing great, posting and coherent...always a good thing.
Please keep us in the loop as to the outcome of your pill issue and update us on how you are doing.

If it is a stuck pill, sip warm water and that will help dissolve it more quickly. Hope this helps :)

Hi
Thx for replying. I did not feel this way until about 2am this morning. I was opk in the hospital.

My Dr office called and told me to tyake the Zanez, break up the pills and drink a warm mint tea, so that is what i am doing now.

I'll keep you posted on my progress.
Thanks

as far as the gas goes, Gas X (mylicon) worked wonders for me...try that and walk and sip all day.
Good luck and welcome to bandland!

chewable gas-x is great and i still don't leave home without it. Probably best not to swallow any pills whole yet and taking them with warm water does help. Welcome to Band Land!!

Thanks for your replies. I bought Gas-x strips and chewables. It seems to be much better than earlier.

We probably all agree... no solid pills for awhile. I was prescribed Prevacid chewables specifically for after surgery. (But I've never had to take them, I did before surgery, no sign of heart burn since surgery) Ask your doctor if you can get those instead. Even when I reacted to the steri strips after surgery I took the Benadryl strips and children's chewables. But if you have solid pills, Pharmacy has a pill crusher, just ask if the particular pill is effective crushed, some are not.

Oh, and welcome RD to Bandland, greatest place to be in the whole wide world! I'm 8 days out and tonight is my first real night out to see a movie. I'm feeling well, but as for you... be really careful about taking solid pills. I eat very slow and like Bear said, walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip. You'll become very familiar with those steps soon.

Welcome to B2g also, the bestest Bandsters in the world!

Welcome to bandland, and it does get easier, my advice is to drink warm teas or water or clear broth. It does help sooth things, and the walking walking walking and sipping and sipping really does help. Be good to yourself and feel the support here.

take care of yourself and welcome home!!!!

The movement really helps with the gas too. I used a rocking chair and walking. DB
Welcome!

You've gotten great advice so far and it sounds like you are out of the woods with the stuck pill. I swear by the dissolvable gas-x strips. They were a lifesaver after surgery....WELCOME to the other side!
