Even though alot of our "drinkers" are away having a ball at P'nuts this weekend - I thought I would pose this question about beer. It is rare that my partner actually asks that I pose a specific question to you guys...so I thought I'd better get typing!

We have both football and hockey season tickets, as it is now the season for both, we want to know if you can drink beer with the band. She has not tried soda, she doesn't miss it so she isn't going there. Her sister (banded with her) accidentally drank Sprite and thought she was going to die. How similar is beer? What are everyones experiences? We are talking about indulging in a beer or two at a game, not an every night event. Besides, the Bucs are so bad this year I'm afraid she may need beer.....

In honor of this question I purchased a 6 pack of Corona Light and am drinking in anticipation to all your responses (one of the advantages of only piggybacking..) If I can't actually be with everyone in Idaho I thought I would at least "toast" to everyone there!

It depends on the person, I can have carbonated drinks (so far...the fills might change that).

With that said, its empty calories, so you are breaking diet by drinking it, kinda like eating chocolate.

I should preface this by saying this is LindaV on Susan's computer not the Nut herself.

Now, in response to your question...I love a good cold beer but find since being banded that beer really makes me feel full quickly so I have to drink it really slowly. Once it warms up a little I don't enjoy it so I rarely drink it any more.

I did however discover buttershots at P'Nuts last night. That might just be my new drink of choice...in moderation of course!

Anything carbonated is going to continue to release gas after consumption. Once below the band, the gas becomes trapped but continues to be released into the stomach putting pressure on the the stomache AND the band. If you have good restriction, it can be difficult to burp to release the pressure. I haven't had anything carbonated since being banded because I understand it can be very painful.

I LOVE beer. I'm not going to miss soda at all, but the beer thing is going to be an issue for me. Even though I love it and will definitely miss it, it isn't worth being in pain for.

I miss beer and from time to time I will open one and put it in the fridge over night and drink it the next day, it cuts the bubbles way down !!

I can drink beer, cokes or anything... if I flatten it a little.. at first it was gross but now I am so use to it that it doesnt bother me at all. I drink almost everyweek. (no wonder slow weight loss) anyway I think it depends on the person.

Only a weekend with all you wild chicks could produce the battle cry "buttershots!!!" We had one Saturday night in your honor! In reference to the beer question, if she is going to drink it's either wine, margarita or another non-soda mixed drink. But if we are sitting in 90+ degree weather at Tampa Stadium watching the Bucs lose, there is nothing like an ice cold beer. We won't have the luxury of opening one the night before to make it flat.

She understands the empty calorie issue, she's not trying to test the band, she just wanted to know if she could try a beer. I think that we will try a "test run" at the house, that way if there is an issue she won't have an issue in front of 70,000+ people!

Thanks for the input, it's funny that the band affects everyone differently. So if you turn on the news next Sunday and you hear the news "women in Tampa arrested for bringing buttershots into a football game"....please send bail money.

Well... I had SO many Coors Light Saturday night that I can't remember exactly the numbers... BUT, there are certain beers I can comfortably drink and some I can't. Corona Light and Coors Light are 2 that I have no problem with.

My fill doc said I can have as much carbonation as I want but obviously from a diet stand point, should limit soda and beer. I dont drink soda but have had been since banding. Wasnt painful, just pretty loud with the burping since being banded.

My doc told me it was ok to have a beer/soda/tonic as long as you use your head and not gulp it! Moderation is key! Watch out for calories/sugars too.
