I just had my ultrasound done this morning. Everything looks beautiful. I got to hear AND see the baby's heartbeat, and my OB doctor said that everything looks wonderful.

He is sending me to see my Lap Band surgeon, my nutritionist, and a highly skilled Maternal Fetal Medicine doctor. He is the corporate chief of obstetrics and gynecology for the Beaumont Hospitals group (Beaumont is where I had my Lap Banding done), so this man knows his stuff. He specializes in high risk pregnancies, as well as specialized pregnancies, like my own - due to me having the band.

My OB said that he wants to get my surgeon and these other doctors involved very early on in this pregnancy to prevent any problems from occuring (due to the band). He is being so proactive, and it makes me glad that he's my doctor - even that much more. It blew my mind that he has done so much research on the band, and it reassured me that he is doing what I pay him to do - and above and beyond that.

I am exactly 6 weeks today, and am due on May 23rd. I am so happy that my bumpkins is all settled in for the long haul. :)

As far as how I'm feeling? Tired. Very tired. I crave good foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. I use crystalized ginger to help with minor morning sickness, or a phenergen pill if it gets really bad. I've only needed that once though so far.

I am reeeeeeaaaaaallllllllly trying to watch my sugar/starch intake, and the doctor is having me get it checked tomorrow. He said that he wants to monitor all of that early on this time around, and he is taking very good care of me.

I got to speak to my lap band surgeon today for about 10/15 minutes and it was wonderful. She is awesome and said that she doesn't think I'll need any liquid taken out of my band. I don't have much in there to begin with, and I have the largest band available (Vanguard), so she said we'll take it as it goes, but that we'll discuss it more when I go down to see her. She is such a sweet and good woman.

Well that's my report for now. I see the OB again in a month, and these other doctors hopefully beginning of October sometime. They'll all be seeing me on the same day so that we only have to make the trip once. That'll be wonderful. We're going to meet up with my sister that day too, as she lives right down there in that area. It'll be so good to see her again!

Everyone take care, and thanks for thinking of me!

yaaahhh ~ Kellygirl!

Ive heard some say that the braclet's (seaman's??) sold in the RX work well for morning sickness... also ginger (maybe you could have a few ginger snap cookies?) and lemon.. like a drop of lemon juice.

To think.. little BeBe is about the size of a lima bean!! I have a reallllly good feeling about this pregnancy.

Yes, the bracelets worked well for me. I thought I'd go insane from the morning sickness with Eliza. Groan.

good to hear all is healthy and well and how wonderful to enjoy a pregnancy without worrying that you'll be the size of a house afterwards.

That's great news! It's a surreal and completly wonderful feeling when your pregnancy is so small and impossible to feel the baby, and then seeing it up on the ultrasound. Your doctor sounds brilliant! You'll do great with that medical team on deck with you!

As well as the crystallised ginger and ginger snap cookies, Blackmore's ginger tablets, diet dry ginger ale or ginger beer (left to go a little flat) worked well for me for the morning sickness. I also found that plenty of B group vitamins and milk helped a lot too.

It's funny how you crave good things during pregnancy, it must be a primordial instinct to protect and nourish your body properly at this time. In early pregnancy I craved simple plain things like fruit, vegies, plain fish and meats, plain milk and water. That coincided with the key developmental times for brain, nervous system etc requiring excellent nutrition. Later on towards the end I craved richer, higher fat foods like chocolate, lasagne, pasta, noodles, curry etc. That coincided with the times the baby was laying down fat stores, growing hair, nails etc - all things that take a lot of calorific resources. I craved milk all the time - at first to settle the morning sickness, and then later just because I was "driven" to it - I guess the baby's bones needed the calcium!
