Recovery entertainment???

I thought that this would be a fun and useful thread for those preparing for surgery and its recovery if we posted our favourite entertainment ideas for those quiet days post-op.

Here's my ideas for starters:

Laundry:washing: - I don't think so! LOL!
Sleep:sleep: - most definitely!
Music :music: - Paul Simon and Billy Joel CD's mostly - tragic I know, but got to get ready for the Billeey concert in November!
Oh yeah, and plenty of ABBA too!
DVDs - Firstly the new movies we just got - "The Muppet Show Season 1 Special Collector's Edition" (4 DVD set) - I am a Muppet freak! and National Lampoon's Vacation Movies (5 disc set)
Then the ones we've had for a while and I've never watched right through, including Kath & Kim Series 1 and 2 (4 DVD set) - maybe I'll finally get to finish watching this without 5yo turning it off!
Then I'll watch some of the others from our collection
Books - I've got about a dozen "new" ones to read, Charlotte Bingham, Maeve Binchy, Jilly Cooper and the like - again, tragic I know, but that's me
Magazines - Notebook: (October) (I've been saving it), Australian Country Style, the Ikea catalogue (again!!?! LOL!)
Other - b2g (of course!):ranger:, catching up with my mum (she's been away for 4 months):blah::tea:, mosaic (making Christmas presents), Christmas craft for the Church fete, board games with DS:juggle:, racking up the phone bill:phone:

Disclaimer: Any resemblance between what actually happens in reality and the above plan is purely coincidental!

When I was banded I stocked up on lots of DVDs and magazines. By about Day 3 I was itching to do something or go somewhere.
Since we are making a list I must mention a must. The first few days I found it difficult getting my fluids in...a half naked male slave dressed in a thong serving you the liquids helps get it in much easier...haha :)

Great choices, at least you have plans to keep yourself occupied. Your banding is coming up so soon. I know it does not seem like it to you but time has passed really fast for me...LOL. Oh, one more thing to add to your list. PM Susan and let her know how you are progressing..LOL.

Anna- that is a really interesting thought. I haven't thought anything about how I will pass the time while I'm off work recovering. Here's my ideas, though they are subject to change without notice... lol

Music: Probably a mixture of old school rock/pop and new hip hop. I love upbeat songs! But I will probably throw a little Luther Vandross in there for soothing and relaxation.

DVDS: Will & Grace, Season 5, The Office, Seasons 1&2, probably lots of movies

Books: Janet Evanovich, 12 Sharp (I heart the Stephanie Plum novels!), and I would like to read The Memory Keeper's Daughter, by Kim Edwards.

Magazines - I hate to admit it, but I read a lot of trash like Globe, Enquirer, Star. I also love People and Entertainment Weekly.

Other - I am totally addicted to playing the Sims 2. My 16 yo daughter calls it "Barbies for grownups" :tongue1: . I hope to take some walks, get lots of rest and catch up with the boards and emails.

My DVDs to watch include: Nip/TUck season 3, some old movies and something to make me laugh...

Believe me, you wouldn't want to see me in a thong... heck, I don't wanna see me in a thong. There is currently a law going thru the Virginia legislature to prevent me from wearing a thong.

I don't wanna break the law. I think it is punishable by death by firing squad. :heh:

Thats odd, there is a similiar law in Massachusetts that states that I amnot allowed to wear shorts. Is there no end to the Big Brother mentality here in the US?
Anyway, you all...don't go too crazy with the stuff to keep you occupied. The time will go by real fast. And you'll spend alot of it right here.

hehehe There's a law here in Victoria that says I am not allowed to wear a bikini so that little children don't have nightmares at the sight of two rubber bands on a giant sized egg . hehehe

Okay - Update as to what really happened during my recovery week:

(gedit??? LOL!!!) Just Paul didn't even turn up (let alone show up in his thong or call at exhorbitant rates, LOL!!). My brain was addled from the anaesthetic, I couldn't concentrate on anything. I slept, I had hubby away so a stream of in-laws and parents coming in the help out with DS (age 5), I only watched one National Lampoon's Christams Vacation movie, and listened to a cople of CDs. That's it....



...AND IT WAS GREAT!!!!:heh:

I walked around a lot and I watched TV and slept. I brought my laptop to the hospital to watch movies on and play games but I watched half of Pirates of the Caribbean while in recovery because I was there so long waiting for my room to be ready and then I didn't touch it so I had my hubby take it home. I should have brought one of my Harry Potter books and started reading the series over again.

hhhmmm. Time to refresh your acting skills JP - I would have thought that your animal magnetism would have been able to break through any drug induced torpor.

I appreciate the effort and the thong though, pity DH didn't get any photos for me.:heh:
