Hi everyone

I go for my 1st fill this Wednesday, 2-6-08. I'm really scared about this. Should I be? How do you feel afterwards? Do you have to do liquids again for a while and mushies again? How long does this last?
Thanks
Rose

:sun_smiley:I've had two fills so far and haven't had any problems afterwards. I was kinda hoping for more restriction but it hasn't happened yet. Maybe it will happen with my next fill! I will say I'm not as hungry as I was prior to my banding but I'm hoping for more assistance from my band. I stayed on liquids for about - - - 3 hours then went on to solids:flowerysmile:I admit that I pushed it just a little but I'm not real good at doing what I'm told. It hardly hurts at all when my doc does the fill. I really hate pain and have great respect for needles and those who hold them. We are all different as are the doc's - unlike me it's probably better to follow their advice. Good luck on your fill and here's hoping for good restriction.

My fills don't hurt, thank God my doc always hits the port on the first try. After a fill I am on clear liquids for 2 days then soft/mushies for 2 days and then on day 5 I am back to regular foods.

Hi Rose...I've had two fills so far. My first fill was 'uncomfortable' -- but my surgeon said "I wonder why you are so 'hard' around the port area?" -- that said, I was sore and even bruised that week after my fill. The second fill was an entirely different experience -- he got in, checked the amount in my band, reinserted it, added more fill and that was it. No bruising, no discomfort, nothing. I kind of look at fills as - the surgeon needs to treat you as an individual - find out what's happening with your body since surgery - and goes from there.

I DID have only liquids the day of my fill - before and after. I continued on liquids for another two days (just my choice), and then two days of pureed, two days of mushies, and on my way to regular eating (with care). I find that I have great restriction from the moment of my fill - until about two weeks. Then it seems to give me restriction on and off, depending on the day. Everyone is different - be sure to let us know how your fill experience goes. Good luck!

Thanks everybody
It's comforting to know there is a network out there that cares! I'll let you know about how it goes tomorrow night.
Always

I was so ready for my first fill, I was at the Dr's office 20 minutes early. I felt immediate restriction; even in Dr's office when he had me take a sip of water immediately after the fill - gurgle, gurgle, gurgle!

It is a piece of cake - LOL (you wish) - don't sweat it! You will do fine.

Good luck today with your first fill - an exciting milestone!! It can be a little uncomfortable but my port is much harder to get to than most. It is well worth it and over in a jiffy... my doc does have us do liquids for a couple days, then mushies. It's a great time to get back to basics and take it sloooow. Some fills will only make a small difference and then you'll have one that has you saying, "Ohhhh, THAT'S what everyone was talking about!" Let us know how you do!

I am very anxious to hear how it went. I go tomorrow for my first fill and like you, I am very nervous about having it done. I do hope I get some restriction because this past week my appetite has totally returned with a vengence!
