View Full Version : Finding comfort in familiarity?
I wonder if others have experienced this.
Of late I've tried a few foods which have been away from my menu. Whole wheat low fat tortilla, cheese, some peanut butter.
Well I've found these foods have brought me nothing but internal misery, and I wonder if any of you find the same level of comfort that I do with "the same thing every day".
I've loved not having to think on food. I've loved not worrying about what to buy, or what to eat.
My internals feel happier when I do the same thing every day.
I noticed on my "whats for Breakfast" thread that a few seem to really have the same pattern as me (eating the same thing, day in and day out). I got to wonder, do you find it comforting?
I do.

YES!! I try different things. but i always fall back to the basics. tuna, cottage cheese, fat free pudding. its easy. its low cal, its quick, and on some days the only choice i have to make is if i want mustard or bbq on my tuna. when i try other stuff it seems to draw me away from my diet. i experiment and it leads to foods that i know i shouldn't eat, and i feel crappy all day long. eating the basics gives me all the stuff i need, and food is not on my mind all day long. it no longer controls me.

I find it comforting because I know that certain foods will fill me up and keep me from being hungry for a while. I also know that these foods will not trigger the "mommy monster", as my son likes to call it, and send me into a downword spiral of eating carbs and sugar. I can relate to the internal misery you speak about, when I eat things that are not on my list of acceptable band foods. It is a lot less stressful when I eat what works for me and I don't have to think about what my next meal will be.

For me, it keeps the math under control. If I need something new I have to add up all the calories, carbs, proteins & everything that goes with it. It so much easier to eat what I already know the calories for. And, I know it will go down without any pain. Doing the same thing over & over is NO STRESS!!!

yeah I REALLY love the no brainer aspect of it. It makes things SO easy, and quick.

I agree - I hate hitting that 'I'm starving' time of day so I tend to eat the same things for breakfast and lunch anyhow, with a little more variety for dinner. I suffered terribly for the past two days when I changed my diet - I was miserable - felt horrible - and won't go back there again...I find oatmeal keeps me full in the morning and up to 6 hours later I begin to get hungry for lunch and eat an apple and peanut butter, it does the trick well into dinner time. I am never hungry during the day with these two meals and it keeps me from overeating at dinnertime. I never eat after dinner anymore either.
Yep - the tried and true is the way to go, I agree.

I'm guilty of eating the same thing over and over - I just don't want to have to think about it every day. I do worry, though, that eating the same things day in and day out isn't nutritionally wise. It's a lot easier to eat the same foods daily, but I think it's a good idea to throw in other stuff too.

I have so cheated today, I don't know why. Took the day off to do my 4 month bloodwork my doctor orders and I just lost it. I am redoing the kitchen, and I would work then graze, work then graze again.... whats wrong with me. I feel like I can't control it! Anyone else?

I despise eating the same thing over and over.
Except when it comes to breakfast. But even then, I got to have some change once or twice a month.

Glad you mentioned this... I went to a Ninfa's for lunch today... First time since banded. I got Lunch Beef Enchiladas. I ate the inside out of one enchilada, refried beans, 3 chips, and a little Queso. An hour later I was in misery! Tums and more Tums!
I have been having problems eating at night for about a month now. I PBed on some Green Beans last night. I have found that Dry Cereal works best for me at night.

I eat spinach salad twice a day and never get tired of it, but lately I haven't been feeling well, so maybe I am ready for a change.

Having read all the stuff about spinach lately... maybe lettuce or cabbage would be better?
In truth I figure we need to forget all things aside from that which makes us feel physically good. I'm not talking mental here so down run out to the coldstone creamery. I FEEL better when I eat right, and I am better, mentally and physically.

Dawg - It was just my feeble attempt at humor. Rrrreeeeaaaallll feeble! Actually, has anyone else noticed how often you think of spinach now that it is off limits? I have been craving spinach ever since it became a no-no. I don't want that icky frozen or canned stuff. I want the freshly irrigated with poo-poo stuff in the bag and I want it now!!

Before I was banded, I ate the same things for breakfast and lunch. After banding, I still do the same thing, but it is different foods, now (unless there are leftovers, not enough for another dinner for two) . I rarely vary those meals. I will fix different things for dinner because DH is home and I like to fix a variety for him. However, he also has the same things everyday for breakfast and lunch, too. That relieves the foggy morning brain our of preparing lunches.
Life is so full of stress and decisions, I like having the same meals everyday.
