Does it hurt when you get your fill? Im getting my band in about 5 days here and im scared for the shot in the stomach. Ive had them everywhere else but the stomach, so im kind of nervous because our doctor fills the band after sergery, under an exray machine type thing to see the size of the pocket/pouch.
Is it sad that i'd take a shot in the butt over a shot in the stomach anyday ? Haha
thanks,
Tory

You feel shots in the rear end. I don't feel anything when I get a fill. It doesn't hurt me. He puts a pillow under me to make my stomach arch up and that's not the most comfortable position.
I used to take 4 shots a day in my stomach when I took insulin.
There are not too many nerves in your stomach, so it's not likely to hurt much at all. Everyone is different and I can only tell you about how it feels to me.
They used flouroscopy I think, when they watched me swallow after surgery, but my doctor felt my port when I went for a fill and could feel where it was and which part was the soft area for the fill. He's very good at it. I was really worried when I went in and then just so relieved.
I think it's really cool that you and your Mom are doing this together. I wish I could have done this when I was a lot younger.

Its a piece of cake. My Dr gives me a numbing shot first. Feels like a small pinch. After that - nothing but a little pressure. Remember that the fill needle is not going through a lot of tissue. It looks like it is worse than it is, but much of the needle that is injected is going into the port. Especially if your Dr uses Flouro (x-ray) like mine, should be no problems. :)

I can say it is pretty much the same as the others said. My MD puts a pillow under my back, feels for the port, inject a little numbing medicine to the port area (which pinch a little) , wait a few seconds then ask me if I feel anything to the port area the proceed to do the fill. The only thing I have felt is pressure from the Dr. pressing down on my tummy. I am not a great fan of needles either, but it was O.K. This process usually only takes a few moments.
Good luck and god bless on your upcoming banding. Congratulations on your journey to weight loss.

I have had two fills and they were soooo easy. Nothing to it, the numbing shot is such a tiny needle I barely felt it and after that the fill is nothing! This, to me, is the least of the fill issue. It's after the fill that the "fun" begins. Finding out what and when you can eat is not easy, and it changes on a daily basis. Good luck.

Hey Tory, the fills have been pretty easy for me. (I HATE needles) My doc numbs me first, just like everyone else has said, it pinches for a second, then I don't feel anything at all. Best of luck to you as you enter your new journey!!

My dr doesn't do the numbing shot - - but it is not a problem. Can barely fill a thing!
I'm scheduled to get a small fill on 12/31 - - just in time for the New Year! I think this will be my fourth - pretty sure!

My doctor doesn't numb his patients first either and I barely feel the needle when he fills me.

Tory, I am the the biggest chicken ever when it comes to needles, so if I could do it - anyone can do it. Now if you say that your doctor does fills on some type of x-ray machine, then that's the best. I had to have one of my fills done under flouroscope and it was so easy. There was one stick and that was the end of it. Now getting a fill by what I call "guesstamation," that's a whole other ball game because sometimes your doctor will hit the spot the first time and sometimes he/she won't. Try not to worry too much about that yet though beacuse fills are not that bad. You'll be okay - I promise.

I've gotten two fills and they are a piece of cake. I was scared, too, I really hate needles, but I was pleasantly shocked at how easy it was.
