View Full Version : Flapping Skin? Oh my!

So imagine my horror as I'm in all out running mode on the treadmill today, adrenaline pumping, feeling good, when all of sudden I hear my own apron skin flapping! I was beyond embarrassed!
It seems like if I wear jeans while working out I don't have that problem, but if I wear soft pants, look out Margaret!
So what does everyone here do? Should I just continue wearing jeans whilst working out, or is there some kind of supportive undergarment they make for flapping skin challeneged people like myself (yes, that was meant to be funny, so feel free to laugh - I do!).
I don't think I should hold back simply because this is a little problem. I really want to get the best workout possible, and for me running revs me up and makes me sweat! Any ideas are very much appreciated!
P.S. I could always just switch to the eliptical machine if need be since I'm finally getting comfortable on it. But I do really like my treadmill!

I totally understand that, I have the same problem. That is why I have an appointment to get it all cut off :) Very embarassing at the gym for sure. I agree not to hold back. Your at home so there is no one that will know. Working out in jeans is ok, but I don't think I could do that. Too restictive. Great job on excersising more. Wish I could get that discipline back :)

Girl, if you can work out in jeans more power to you! I would suggest getting some of those legging type work out pants that are snug fitting. If you don't like wearing them alone, but some work out shorts over them or put some biker type shorts under sweats.

Oh I wish I had my own treadmill here at home, but I work out at the local high school gym. It's free from 9-10AM, so I go with my midwife/friend.
I wouldn't be embarrassed by the noise if I was just here at home, since only hubby and I might hear it. I actually looked around to see if anyone was around me to hear it. Luckily only one person was, and I was hoping that she A. just didn't hear it, or B. heard it & just thought it was my shoes clacking on the treadmill as I ran.
Can anyone say, embarrassed shrinking violet!

Thanks for the advice Leash! I will have to check into those tight leggings things. Maybe I can find some at Wally World. That way I could possibly still use the soft pants with them. Jeans don't bother me actually, since it's just walking/running or eliptical machine. I think if I was doing Tae Kwon Do again I wouldn't be wearing jeans. He he he!

I wear tight lycra blend bike shorts under my workout clothes to avoid the very same thing!

Try wearing Spanx under your gym close. I have to agree also, more power to you if you can exercise in jeans.

Exercise naked, their fascination with the view will completely block out any sound. I can ignore fire alarms and gunshots if there is a nude woman around.

I hear this familiar sound when I'm wiping down counter tops in the kitchen. That's right. The ever-dreaded bat wings. That outrageous amount of skin that hangs from the back of my upper arms.
The girls at the b2g Band Camp last summer christened that the official bandster salute/wave. You know how it's done. Extend your arm straight out, shoulder height. Now bend your elbow and point your fingers up to the sky. No waving of the hand, mind you. Simply rock your arm like a swing, forward and back again. In no time at all the centrifugal force takes over and no effort is needed for the wave to continue for a good 3 minutes!
Salute!

I wear bike shorts under my fleece pants.
Now, how to stop the bouncing boobs from slapping my face.

Spanx! I need to check into those. I know I've heard lots about them, I just wonder if they make them for a size 26/28 woman? Where do ya'll get them from? Thanks!

I think you can find Spanx at any Department store. I was with a friend and she was a 1-2X and they had them to fit her. Good luck.
Check out the Spanx website. I have also seen them on QVC.

Bike shorts or spanx should work. I would not wear jeans, that can cause a rash. OR, Just...let er flap. Donna

lol flapping wings on arms and other body places! We ALL face that or will soon enough --
I love my "Bell" brand shorts - they are meant to be tight, and you will sweat your behind off! if you wear them --mine are size L/XL and my 231 lb body won't quite fit in them
sadly - I weigh at least 5 lbs less than I did when I last wore them, but lo and behold the dang things ain't fittin' my arse -- what is up with THAT? I guess my arse is my flapping body part LOL (along with my apron)

I have always worn a panty type girdle that I buy at Catherines (cheaper than the Spanx) or Lane Bryant/Roamanns. I wear them over my regular panties. When my granddaughter was little, she went home and told everyone that I wore 2 pair of underpants.
There are different kinds. There was a woman on Big Medicine that wore a body suit until she had plastic surgery it had legs in them for her flappy legs. Lane Bryant calls it shapewear. I wear the medium control. Here's a link to theirs: http://www.lanebryantcatalog.com/pagebuilder/subcategory_landing_page?PAGEID=1717&page_nav=intimates&sub=shapewear&cat=intimates
I can't go anywhere without it on because it holds my stomach in and keeps my back from hurting. I put a pair on today and they were too loose, coz I'm losing weight. I had to get another pair on.
