:Dancing_cool: :Dancing_biggrin::Dancing_cool: :Dancing_laugh: Good Evening All,
My name is Larry I live in Chattanooga with my partner I am originally from Illinois and made my way to TN. I acutally miss our Chicago Winters especially since my mom passed away:rolleyes: :Dancing_sad:
My surgery is scheduled for September 29th and I am on day 2 of the liquid phase preop. Tonight it is getting harder as my stomach is talking and rumbling. I will make it through it I may need a little help but I am keeping the big pictue in mind. :help:
I am a little nervous and excited at the same time. I just wanted to say hi
Take Care

Have a Wonderful day:blue: :Dancing_O_o: :yellow_green: :Dancing_growl: :Dancing_eek: :Dancing_nerd:
Hey there Larry! welcome to b2g.
I can only imagine how tough that liquid phase must be. Try and find an protein drink you can stomach. A few tummy grumbles can be eliminated if you give it enough nutrition.
Keep up the good fight and we're here to help!

Hi Larry, Welcome.
I was on liquids for six long weeks- so I feel like I'm an expert. I just now started on mushies. Yay.
If you like to cook, go to the liquid recipe site and pick up a few good soup ideas. Here's my favorite protein shake and it kept me full until lunch:
1 container Carnation Instant Breakfast for the carb conscious - Vanilla
1 TBSP benefiber
1 TBSP Protein powder (for the morning shake, I liked vanilla)
1/2 frozen banana cut up
1/2 C frozen strawberries.
Blend until nice and thick (but of course...still pourable)
Nutritionals:
Cals: 303
Fat: 6
Carbs: 34
Proteins: 29
Another thing that will stave off hunger is Isopure Clear Liquids (although they only come in noxious colors and flavors - I find that combining them helps)...one container of the thing is 40 grams of protein! It will stave off hunger between meals. You'll find if you can keep your protein up, you won't be as hungry.
Good Luck and stay in touch.
Hi Larry,
Welcome! Congratulations on getting banded. It will be over and done with before you know it. Keep reading, this is a great group. BTW I love Chattanooga, my family lives near there in GA.

Hello All,
I have spent alot of time reading your posts today and have got alot of good ideas that I was not aware of such as getting your pain meds filled since alot of Pharmacies don't stock them.
Hey one question did you use bananas on the before surgery or after? I am drinking glucerna and found ways to make them better am gettin ready to go to the store I think and get some ice.:Dancing_laugh: :Dancing_laugh: :Dancing_biggrin:
Also what to be prepared with? But can someone explain to me why we need heat pad and what does it do? Also someone mentioned go to the liquid receipe site where is that at?
I am a excited and scared at the same time I have never had a surgery and the part about being put to sleep. I know I will be fine but it the time before surgery gives me alot of time to think. Are these feelings normal I can't wait till it gets here. I feel I am doing pretty well with the liquid phase and I am going to do it especially with the lhelp of people like you all.
My surgery date is September 29th performed by Dr Walter Rose at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga TN at 10 am. Should be home the day day.
Tomorrow I go for all my preop testing and the upper GI. After that test don't think there is anything else I need to do at least that I am aware of at the moment lol
But this board is really helping to stay occupied and learining alot.
For those that have upcoming surgery my prayers and thoughts go out to you.
If there is any tips or suggestions you think I should know feel to email me or send them on here is great.
Thanks for making me feel so welcomed :phone:

Larry -
Welcome to b2g!!! So glad you are here, and congratz on the upcoming surgery!
The heating pa helps with muscle pain after the surgery, and seems to help with gas as well. Its helpful, but not a requirement, and may or may not work for you. But its good to have one just in case. :)
Def see if you can get your pain meds pre-filled, so that they are ready for surgery day. If you need them, it would suck to have to wait for them.
The liquid recipes are in the nutrition section of this site. We are still filling out a lot of it, but they are helpful.
As for the tummy rumbles, if it is between meals you could try some hot tea. this will help to flush out the aci in your stomach. The tummy rumbles are more often than not gas that is being produced by the protein you are eating. Not actual hunger. though we mistake it for that. Try the tea, and if you are still hungry then go for a low cal protein shake like slim fast, boost, or a smoothie that you make yourself. I also found a nice cup of chicken brother with some protein powder added was a nice little snack. The reason for the liquid diet before hand is to give your liver a break, to detox the body, and to lose some fat from aroun the liver. So you want to make sure that you are not drinking ANYTHING liquid. Be sure to focus on the ingredients, and the calories, and the protein content. You want to load up on protein before the surgery as that will help you heal. And get in as much water as possible! this will help your blood to stay thin, will help flush the fat out of your body from the liver, as well as the toxins, and will make your skin ready to heal from the cuts.
Good luck! I will be prayin for ya, and I look forward to hearing more about your journey!

Hi Larry,
Welcome! I am new here as well. I am from the Chicago burbs and my surgery date is this Friday, 9-22. I have been on liquids for a week now and I did really well during the week. The weekend was torture as my family still needed to eat. The smells made me want to go outside with my broth and V-8 until they were done. 4 days to go. The protein shakes really do help. I am using Isopure which has 50 grams of protein for 12 ozs. Unjury.com also has alot of different flavors including a clear you can add to anything.
I am definately feeling the anxiety with each passing day, but these folks here really share so much of themselves that you slowly learn to stop mourning the old habits and focus on the new smaller healthier, more active individual we are going to become if we do things right.
Good luck in your journey,
Diane5467
