What is the recumbant bike???

Ran 3 miles.

In a seat rather than like a bike...

It has programs on mine that simulate terrain... up and down hills, or up a mountain, or flat terrain.

OHHHHH...that is the one I use at the gym. Just didn't know it was called that.

YOU GUYS ARE JUST SO SUPER SMART!

... and handsome.

I'm smart and handsome.

Make sure you use the whole statement.

Yeah, I love that bike. Easier on the tushy (was better on my tailbone when I was heavy, and now that I've lost weight, my butt is bonier... is that a word, and it helps again).
The terrain simulations can really be tough, I have a lot of trouble with the mountains.

Hahaha, sowwwy!

I meant last night. Went bowling last night. My brother-in-law saw me for the first time since my surgery. Let's just say he's a fool and soo cute. He came in front of me at some point, while the music played (at the bowling alley) and started to do a butt grind dance on me...rubbing his butt on me and slowly dancing to the floor. My in-laws (parents and my husbands sisters) had a laugh. We both talked about our myspace'edness and compared mohawks. I had a good time.

Okay, I'm gonna "jump" in here after readiing all of these intensive workouts.
I have lightly exercised since my banding and this week committed to 3x, which I have only done once. I will exercise today, though, riding my recumbent bike (stationery) and hopefully tomorrow or Sat. finish up with my 3x a week workout. I have decided to enter into exercise slowly and not full tilt, as in the past when I "dieted" I always went full blown into a rountine and well, it wasn't a lifelong change...obviously. So, I will probably try to make 3x a week of doing some type of exercise activity like the bike, swimming, walking, Tai Chi which I hope to start and possibly some upper body weight lifting. If I do well with this, I may add other days. So, I will try to post and keep accountable. I do have more energy just from the weightloss and the swimming I was doing. YAY!! Thanks for the support!!

Met with the trainer. Today I did what I will do every monday wednesday and friday.

1 hour treadmill incline 2, speed 2.5. Heartrate at 150
15 minutes eliptical (ugh!)
45 minutes rower
Lat pull downs - Weight @ 40pounds, 20 reps, 4 sets
Mini squats with medicine ball - 20 reps, 4 sets
One arm row (each arm)- weight @ 20 pounds, 20 reps, 4 sets
Tricep Extension (each arm)- weight @ 10 pounds, 20 reps, 4 sets
Overhead press - weight @ 10 pounds, 20 reps, 4 sets
Bicep Curls - weight @ 20 pounds, 20 reps, 4 sets
1 hour treadmill incline 2, speed 2.5. Heartrate at 150
15minutes treadmill cooldown no incline, speed 1.5. heartrate under 130

The circuit training is done in fast succession so that the heart rate does not drop. This ensures that it is also an aerobic workout at the same time.

i'm sweaty.

I have never even clicked on any of the exercise links because I am just plain lazy and lost weight without exercising. I have now been on a plateau for about 6 mths and its time. I have to start gradually because it has been so long.
Drum roll please - I just finished an hour long aqua class, and I kept up with all of them. I was just going to start once a week but have booked for Wednesday night too. I really enjoyed it and if anyone has any advice for things I could do it home it will be appreciated.

Lins12,
Working out everyday on a cruise ship is no easy task. I'd rather run to the 24/7 buffet..lol. I am proud of you. I knew you'd stay focused. Your drive and determination gives me no doubts.

Kelli
Walking briskly will take the pounds off pretty fast. It's a great cardio exercise. Jogging in place too. You've got to get your heart beating fast and the only way to do so is jogging, walking, jumping on a trampoline, jump rope, jumping jacks or you can try Tae-Bo DVD's. It doesn't require walking or running but it's aerobic and you need aerobics to get that heart beating over 65% above resting heart rate. Anything over that zone is fat burning and I guarantee you that if you do something where your face is red, you are sweating, your heart is beating out of your chest and you feel exhausted...you'll lose the weight.

Well the water exercise is good to a certain degree. If you were splashing around, jumping and moving your arms ominously through the water then "YES" it's perfect. Swimming is the #1 exercise that burns the most calories and it works every single muscle group. So I can imagine some water exercises doing the same.

I thought it'd be 20 minute job since when that used to happen with my Jeep it was a computer malfunction that took no time to fix. Anyway I took it in 9 am and the guy said "it'll be ready at 2". Bugger. So I decided to walk home - it took an hour and a half - its 10kms. That would be fine except I wasnt really shod for it - I had brand new Birkenstocks on. Ok, this one's for Telly. I promised her I'd keep this thread alive til she returns. So come on folks, I know someone else is out there exercising.

Come on folks! Show us what you've been doing. JustPaul, P'Nut, Dawg, Sara, Jachut, Myiv4life, Kathy and everyone else that I've missed! What have you guys been doing with regards to exercise. Please post and share with all of us so that we may continue to motivate one another.

I need to get new dumbells. my 20 pounders are gettin too easy, and I am having to do too many reps. For men, you want fewer reps with heavier weight, to build larger muscles, since I am doing so many reps, I am not building the "size" I want.

I started working out again on my crossow (loke a bowflex)... I forgot how much I LOVED IT. I'll post my program next week, still working out the bugs on what exercises I am going to do on what days.

Am doing 16 miles, 5 times a week on the recumbant, with the multi-hill program (up and down hills resistance changes)... it is the most challenging I've done so far.

Also, am going to start a kickboxing program in a couple weeks, twice a week to start... never did anything like that before.

Telly
10-12-2006, 07:47 AM
That's awesome Paul. I cannot wait to get back on my routine again. OOo kickboxing and biking are my thing.

Running, running, running. As usual. I am SO hooked.

I was thinking I'd train to do a 10k in December, but its only 5 weeks away and I found the 7.5k hard. So I might do the 5km event instead. I like to take it very slowly with regard to increasing distance, because at 83kg I'm nearly at goal but for a runner, I could still stand to lose 15kg, and my ankle, though fine, is not "normal". I'm always aware of it. Slow and steady has gotten me to where I am so I think I'll take my time building up to 10.

I really really REALLY want to do the City to Surf next August in Syndey though, that's a 14km event and includes what is known as Heartbreak Hill. Sydney is easy one of the most beautiful cities in the world and to run down the hill into Bondi would be an awesome experience.

You're not even allowed to post in an exercise forum until you get better.

Be careful and take it slow...don't hurt yourself...plenty of time for crunches when all the stitches have healed.

Haha, thanks 503! I will try to wait it out 1 month but you know me.

Paul!!!! You don't know women very well do you? When a woman goes to try on an outfit, 9 times out of 10 that sexy lil number (if it looks good on her) is purchased. Or sometimes, we women just buy up a bunch of sh*T and take it home to try it on later, then return what we don't like or want.

I get confused. I marrried the ONLY woman in the world who HATES shopping... in any and all forms. I end up buying most of her clothes, or force her to go out when she needs new stuff. This means you are correct, I DON'T KNOW WOMEN... but, do any men?:heh: :heh:

I am the one who likes to shop. Never really did much on the clothes thing (big men's clothes suck), but lately... I'm gettin' the urge to splurge on some nice duds.

Ok, so here's my question,

Does climbing up and down on the hayride on the tractor, walking a farm, petting the animals, finding a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, and chasing your grandson count as exercise? He's 2. I also had to climb the playground equipment to get him on the slides and pull him in his wagon we bought him for his birthday. Whew, glad I'm not a mom of a toddler.:juggle:

OK... I gave ya the clothes shopping, but weeding a garden can be very taxing, so can washing the car... unless you own a mini, then there isn't much to wash. So, OK you got it again.

Next time I won't be so generous. lol!

Gunn4ya
10-16-2006, 09:06 AM
Nope, not gonna give Tricia this one Paul, she been a little too lax for a while now. Cmon Tricia what's up with this exercise routine. You were rockn and rolln.

Telly
10-16-2006, 09:20 AM
Hehe, not giving her the weeds thing either. The car maybe b/c she has a huge one and I know washing those things would bring on a little sweat.

Ok Tricia is recovering from a bear hug that caused separated ribs. She posted it a few times in this thread I think. She's trying to heal but I personally know she is still attempting to do some exercise. I think she even tried to swim once after the rib thing but ..ouchies.

It's cool, were both recovering together. I hope to not gain weight or at least too much during my lazy time.

I can totally understand hugging Tricia K until she pops a few ribs.

I have broken a few ribs in my time, and I can remember the really annoying pain that it caused. I hope you heal up soon...until then, just don't breathe, laugh, cry, sigh, yawn, yell, talk, whisper, sleep, eat, sit down, stand up, lay down, walk, run, crawl and definitely no kickboxing.

So here goes:
45 mins treadmill

Not so much sore as really tight.. almost in a "I have to go really bad" kind of way. Burns more than hurts. I do them in sets of 200... 50 regular, 50 with legs flat, then 50 to each side. I wait a minute or two, then do it again... 5 times.

10 minutes cross trainer today.

My heart rate jumped up again during the second five mins - I am sooo unfit, and still feel flat after the surgery!

I found the program that lets you train within your target heart rate. I think this will be good, as I can make sure I stay within the fat burning zone while I am losing weight.

Well... my lazy butt decided to show up...
I have been slacking for 2 1/2 months already...

I am meeting with a trainer at 2:30 so hopefully she will whoop my butt into shape! I am so close to the finish line, but I need to get back in my workout routine before the holidays.

Telly
10-20-2006, 01:08 PM
I'm so glad to see you back in the exercise routine Heathergurl. You had such amazing, instant results with working out and you'll continue to have them.

I just have to be a pootie head and say this to my friends...
It's one thing to lose weight with no exercise...that's great! But it's another thing to lose weight, while toning and building some definition. The results can be incredible.

I understand some people are just not comfortable in a gym setting. Trust me folks, no one is watching you (except for me...heheh) and no one really cares how much fat is jumping as you run. The fact is... you are there! You're running! They can't turn their nose up to that! You're doing something about yourself and people admire it if anything.

When I am at the gym and now that I see overweight/obese people (such as myself) sweating and huffing and puffing I get excited and I sometimes hear my brain say, "That's right, work it, work it!"

I love the feeling of everyone striving for the same goal, a healthier life. Physical Fitness is very important. We all need this.

"Just" Paul
10-20-2006, 01:44 PM
Amen Sister Telly!

I agree 100%.

Yes you can lose without exercise, but it doesn't mean you should.

You NEED it. Do it, and make it work FOR you!

I find days where I am "too tired" to work out, then force myself to do so. Know what? I end up feeling MORE ENERGIZED after the workout than I did before... it really makes you feel that much better.

And you Don't need the gym, ther is plenty of affordable equipment and tapes and such that you can do at home, and still be effective. I don't go to a gym, I work out at home, and I feel I get good results anyway.

Let's go everyone... work those buns!~

Telly

I ran 8kms yesterday outside pushing Eliza in the jogger, quite a workout. I have that distance pretty much cemented though now, find it quite doable and I dont feel too tired afterwards.

I wanna be able to run like Jacqui! You rock!

I am back from my weekend away in Adelaide. DH and I did plenty of walking all over the CBD / gardens / river / museum / beach at Glenelg etc, and plenty of dancing with our cousins at the wedding!

I plan to go walking tonight, plus do at least 10 mins on the cross trainer.

I am starting to feel pretty good post-op now, so it's time to ramp it up!

I met with my trainer Friday. She is about 4'10" and 85 lbs soaking wet. :) She seems like she is a feisty little thing though that will make me work my butt off. My body fat percentage is 31%. I need to go back to LBT and see what is was when I joined the gym. I know it was a lot more.
Edit*** I just went back and found it... It was 41% back in May. For my age it should be 18.9%, so I will shoot for 25%:)

Today:
30 minutes on the treadmill-completed

Tricia,

Haven't gone bowling in YEARS. Boy, that sounds like fun.

You any good?

I used to be big in Dart leagues. Not really much exercise, and at the time probably contributed to my excess drinking of beer. lol

Glad to hear you are healing up.

More cheers for Telly's infomercial on exercise. As soon as she is healed up, she should create an exercise tape (DVD) for bandsters! She's selll a ton!
Telly, need a producer? I have access to the camera equipment! Money Money Money!
