I had my surgery on 9/10, so, it's been 2 weeks yesterday. At this point, I have no restriction at all. I think I could pretty much eat whatever I want. I haven't been and I've been trying to stay with mushies etc., but it's hard. I was wondering if this is normal. I expected to be on liquids for longer than I was and mushies. I feel great and my incisions have almost completely healed, so, I'm sure not complaining, this just is not what I expected.

That is exactly how it was for me. Some people just adjust faster to the band than others. On my third day out of surgery I was eating cheeseits, I was wide open. Do not expect miracles at this point in time, when they start to fill your band your restriction will be unbelievable. Dont panic just yet. When I realized I had no restriction, I freaked out. I though "oh sh*t, this is just another something else that isnt going to work." Hang in there, give yourself time, and be patient.

From what I hear, you won't feel much restriction until after your first fill which is approximately 6 weeks post op. So I think what you you are experiencing is pretty normal. Watch your intake and you'll do fine. Exercise when you can and that will help too.

I had surgery on the same day as you. I struggled for the first week and was only eating 1/4 cup meals, as directed. It was incredibly difficult. But now I am into a new routine, and I lost 15 pounds in 10 days. My nutritionist said I was doing spectacular and told me I was allowed to eat as much as 1cup (but I'm trying to keep it at half a cup) a meal. The first few weeks are the hardest, but it definitely gets better. I can't wait for my fill. Good luck to you!

I had my surgery on 9/11. I just got back to work after my 2 week follow up appointment with my surgeon. The good news is that I am down 11.5 pounds. But I feel the same way - the first week even a spoonfull felt like Thanksgiving, but now I think I could eat anything. I find that I am not as hungry between meals, but 1/2 cup of food isnt filling me up either.(Not even close)! I have been sticking to the soft liquid diet and need to for two more weeks. (I did cheat and eat some oyster crackers) I got the good news that my first fill is scheduled for two weeks from today. My surgeon assures me that this is the hardest part and once I get the proper fill all will be good.

Hang in there, I'll think of you while I am eating more cottage cheese for dinner tonight!!

Hang in there everyone!! The first six weeks after surgery are the toughest (also known as Bandster Hell), but you will get through it. Also know that it might take a few fills to get restriction. You are all doing so well with your weight loss! Congrats! :)

Thanks for all of your replies. My internet was down, so, I didn't get them until today. It really helps to know I'm not the only one going through this. I found out yesterday that I get my first fill in 2 weeks and I'm really looking forward to it. My doctor told me that I should now be eating 3 times a day and 1/4 a cup each time. I'm starving on only 3/4 a cup of food a day, but I'll try. Thanks again for the help!!

Jessica is right. Until you get good restriction, its not real easy. And sometimes it does take several fills before you get that good restriction.

Meeeeeee too, I have no restriction at all (I was banded on 8/20) and I just found out today I won't have my first fill until 10/8. I am hoping this will work for me once my band is filled and I have the help I need with my portion control. *sigh* until then I will continue to drink lots of hot tea.
