View Full Version : Too tight?

I was filled on 8/30 and ended up having to do liquids/mushies for a week afterwards. TOM hit two days after being filled and at that point I chalked up the extra tightness to that. After TOM, things were better but still not great. I would slime, but not PB at least once a day. I adjusted the way I was eating and it got somewhat better. I still have a problem getting and keeping food down. Some days are better than others but I'm somewhat concerned because the bad days outweigh the good. I've had some very stressful days recently and wonder if that has anything to do with it.
What do you think - am I too tight or could it be stress?
Stress can definitely make me feel tighter and so can my TOM. Are you able to keep most food down when you're consciously thinking about taking small bites and chewing until mush? I've heard some people say that their docs say it might take 3 weeks for a fill to settle down. I guess you really have to go by how you feel most of the time...you don't want to be miserable. Hope that helps! :)

OK - I went back and checked the "commonly used abbreviations" thread and can't find TOM. What does it mean?
Thanks!

I definitely had issues for a long time after my last fill because of stress. Hopefully things calm down for you. I still sometimes have issues, but I think it's because I don't chew enough and I think I'm invincible. I realize I am not when I end up puking, ahaha.
Good luck, though, and just keep chewingg!

I went through the same thing for over 10 weeks . Same thing!! I was stressed out, TOM would come and go, more bad days than good, finally I gave up and had some taken out just last week . Oh what a relief!!!! You don't have to have a lot removed , talk to your doc, maybe he can just tweek you just a little to make you more at ease. I ended up eating soup all the time and slowed my weightloss to a halt. When I thought oh I can do this and eat some protein ,m oh yeah right, slime , puke , tears. Not worth it. Good luck! I know how you feel and where you are.

It very well could be stress! What foods are you having problems with? Anything in particular?

Thanks all!
Yesterday it was turkey sausage - something I have almost everyday for breakfast. Monday it was Egg Beaters at breakfast and chicken at dinner. Today was a good day. I was super conscious of what I was eating, how long I was taking between bites, and chewing. I had a salad for lunch and took almost an hour to eat it. I know I should eat what I am going to eat within 30 minutes, but the salad was small and I the goal was not to PB.

Jess,
I know we talked about this already today but taking an hour to eat the salad doesn't sound right. Keep Dr Tran posted if no changes. This isn't reasonable to eat that way and perhaps a very small unfill would be warranted. You are doing so awesome with your weight loss and especially your new active lifestyle - I am so proud of you!

I agree, I think maybe you better talk to your doc about being a little too tight. You will lose better if you are not too tight.

It does sound like you are a little too tight Jess. Better to be conservative and have a small unfill sooner rather than later.

Jess, I am not sure that you are too tight, or if it is timing and food. I have had my band for over a year now and I have had the same fill for 10 months. Some of the issues you have may be due to PBs. Anytime I do that or even just slime it inflames the stomach and my band is super tight for about 3-4 days after. Plus at anytime of the day there is no way I can eat eggs (including beaters) they get stuck so bad. But my worst time of the day is in the morning. I can't eat anything, and by that I mean nothing but liquids, until about 10 or 11 am then it is cereal or oatmeal type foods (I get up at 6:30am). I can only eat salads and steamed veggies in the evening, sometimes at lunch I have to have a small cup of soup to ease the stomach then I can eat a grilled chicken or something like that. At dinner time my band is pretty open and I have to watch it or I eat things I shouldn't. It may be that your restriction is good, but you may have to go through an entire new learning curve again. Each time the band gets filled it narrows your food choices and you have to start all over again with what works and what doesn't. I used to be able to eat bread like it was going out of style, now I am limited to toast only and that is still in the evening. Hope this helps!
