I have wondered the same thing too. Now that I am banded it seems like my stomach is always making noise - even when I am not hungry. I have been wondering if this is my neglected big stomach asking for food. Also I want to know if it will ever quit?

It is typical for your stomach to make noises as it digests the food. I named my band BOB (Big Ol Band). That way when hubby and I are eating in or out and my stomach makes those noises...I just say "Oh Bob be quiet!" People in the restaurant then think I am just talking to my husband! LOL. As for the hunger issue. You should not get hungry between meals, if you are properly filled, eating right and drinking plenty of water. Trust me I know!

Not a dumb question at all. From how I have heard it explained. The nerves that sense fullness are at the top of the stomach. That is how the band works, by filling up the small upper pouch, it reaches the nerves and creates the sence of feeling full faster. But I agree, the bottom stomach still makes a lot of noice even when not feeling hungry. It gets better with time though. Hope that helps :)

Neal - thanks for that explanation!
I think that would also explain why I feel soooo hungry. I am still on liquids for a few more days. Sipping 4 oz of liquid every 2 hours can't possibly ensure that the top of my wee tummy is filled and those nerve endings activated - right?
I've been thinking that my doc just put 5 holes in my stomach and didn't even band me!
I am praying and hoping that when I get to the mushies, I will feel satisfied. Please tell me I will!!!!
Thanks!

I was banded a week ago today and I am on pureed foods until tomorrow then I get soft foods. I am only allowed to eat 1/4 cup at a time 3 meals a day. I am STARVING. I have become very depressed. I'm told the first few weeks are the hardest part. I cannot wait until my fill because I cannot live like this.

Wow Neets!
That shows you how different our doctor's and dieticians are! I am 10 days out of surgery and still on liquids! I cannot WAIT to be on pureed foods.
Are our docs all following different science???????
Now I drink 4 oz of liquid every 2 hours. With pureed food (not until the end of this week) I will go to eating only 3 times a day, but can add 1-3 high protein snacks to suppliments my goal of 60 grams of protein per day.
Plus, I think I can have up to 3/4 of a cup of food per meal. So that will add a little to what I can have now. Right now I am strictly following no more than 1/2 cup per meal even though I feel like I could eat/drink more.
But I am super hungry on just liquids.
I'd like to know how others deal with this.
Thanks.

It is interesting what docs tell us. Per meal I can have 3 oz of protien, half a cup of veggie and maybe a 1/4 starch. That is more than 3/4's cup food. Though when we chew food we do take liquid out of it so it is actually smaller once it gets down.
I think what we hear here about not being hungry between meals with a proper fill is what makes sense. I'm getting my first fill in two weeks, so I'll let you know if anything changes, particularly that hunger. I have felt very hungry at times and like I could eat pratically anything.

Yep, every doc will give different instructions. There's no right "science" as to how to start off your banded journey correctly, we just suggest you do follow your surgeons orders and not someone elses, lol. You guys are doing great though!

You're right, of course. I guess I wish I had a surgeon that let me have real food sooner because I'm so daggone hungry!
Although I did pick up some egg drop soup from our local favorite, ran it through the blender and am really enjoying 1/2 a cup of that every few hours! I especially like that I don't have to add that yucky protein powder to it! It's pretty satisfying.
Peace,

I tried "real food" too soon after I was banded....trust me....DON'T DO IT!! LOL...listen to your doc...this too shall pass, I promise. You'll get restriction and that feeling of fullness. Make sure and learn to listen to your body. That's what I had to learn. To recognize the signs of true hunger and not just my head messin' with me.

Amen Sherry!!!! I agree that you really have to learn to listen to your body and learn what the difference is between head hunger and actual hunger. I would think I was starving and then I would stop and think about what was going on in my life at the moment and 99% of the time I had just been through or actually in a stressful situation and that is how I learned how to tell the difference.
