Sculpt rock-hard abs with these new takes on a few classics.

Long-Arm Weighted Crunch
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h77/tellymelly/0607_armweight_200x200.jpg

This exercise targets your upper abs. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Hold a light dumbbell in each hand and extend your arms straight back beyond your head. Now crunch your rib cage toward your pelvis, keeping your shoulders still and your arms straight. Don't generate momentum with your arms. Perform 12 to 15 repetitions.

Seated Ab Crunch

Sit on the edge of a bench. Grip the edge of the pad and lean back slightly, extending your legs down and away and keeping your heels 4 to 6 inches off the floor. Bend your knees and slowly raise your legs toward your chest. At the same time, lean forward with your upper body, allowing your chest to approach your thighs. Return to the starting position. Perform three sets of 12 repetitions.

Corkscrew

This exercise targets both the lower abs and the obliques. Lie on your back, with your legs raised directly over your hips. Your knees should be slightly bent. Place your hands at your sides with the palms down. Use your lower abs to raise your hips off the floor and toward your rib cage, elevating your feet straight up. Simultaneously twist your hips to the right. Hold, then return to the starting position. Repeat, twisting to the left. Do 10 repetitions to each side.

Weighted One-Sided Crunch
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h77/tellymelly/0604_wtoneside_200x200.jpg

This exercise targets both the upper abs and the obliques. Lie with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor, and hold a dumbbell with both hands by your right shoulder. Curl your torso up and rotate to the left. Lower yourself, finish the set on that side, then switch directions and repeat, holding the dumbbell next to your left shoulder. Perform three sets of eight repetitions to each side.

Kneeling Cable Crunch
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h77/tellymelly/0605_kncblcrnch_200x200.jpg

Kneel facing the pulley and hold the ends of a rope attached to the high cable along the sides of your face. Bend forward, aiming your chest at your pelvis. Return to the starting position, then repeat the movement, this time aiming your chest toward your left knee. Return, then repeat to your right. That's one repetition. Perform three sets of eight repetitions.

Crunch/Side-Bend Combo
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h77/tellymelly/0604_wtoneside_200x200.jpg

This exercise targets both the upper abs and the obliques. Lie on your back with your knees bent, feet on the floor, and hands behind your ears. Curl up so your shoulder blades are off the floor. Bend at the waist to your left, aiming your left armpit toward your left hip. Straighten, then bend to your right. Lower yourself to the starting position and repeat. Perform three sets of eight repetitions to each side.

Last night I realized I'm up to 1000 crunches. My ab muscles are tight as hell, I just have this layer of skin and tissue over it that drives me crazy, especially on the flanks. I know the muscle is tight, but I've gotta trim out the fat a bit more. I am hoping to avoid PS on my trunk, but I guess after 155 lbs that may be an inevitablity.

Still, I'm gonna try and vary out my routine and see if that helps. This setup looks interesting.

Go PAUL!! 1,000!?!?!?! Are you sure about that number? Are you sure you didn't get those numbers mixed up. You know, 100 & 1,000 look very much alike. :) :)

High fives to you!!!! :high5:

just keep in mind that you could have the worlds best six pack, but isolate muscle work will not remove the fat from that area that could be covering that six pack. so don't stop the weight loss as well or those abs will never show. keep using your lapband and do toning exercises all over the body, and pretty soon you will kick butt just like telly :D

Cool. I love crunches. I guess because that is my strongest area and the place I see results to fastest. What I hate is any kind of lunges. I have strong legs, but I have a reeeaaaly big a** so it is torture hauling that thing around.

I love the variety, Telly and will add them to my routine.

I'm workin on it! Not sure I wanna look like Telly though. As good as she looks, she'd make a very effeminate man.

I'll shoot for Macho! I always wanted to be Macho... that would be really kewl!

macho macho man!

momo, i hate lunges too. i prefer doing squats and reverse situps to work on my but muscles. one tip to help out is that whatever muslce you are working, you want to tense that muscle the way you want it to look. so while you are doing squats or lunges or reverse situps, tighten your butt cheeks and hold it like that. it will make a huge difference!!

Girl, I could crack walnuts with my buttcheeks. They are amazingly strong and hard even though they are covered with several layers of fat that resemble what I can only surmize is some kind of hard ballistics gel. The fact that even though it is fat, yet so firm fascinates my husband. Let's just say that I have been the object of admiration for many African-American and Latino men, cuz this baby got back! Not sure how I ended up with a very pale, corn-fed midwesterner...

Now what I need to work on is the back and inside of my thighs, because that is where the cottage cheesy, calamity of an abomination of genes-gone-horribly-wrong currently resides. I know that fat-burning cardio and weight loss are really the only things that are going to do much good. Otherwise it will just be great muscles shrouded in gelatinous goo. Guess I just gotta walk it and bike it off. No easy fixes.
