I went for my second fill today. I have an Advanced Platform Small which holds a total of 10cc of saline. Well at surgery they placed 3 cc,s in the band. After all was said and done I still ate like a horse. :heh:I went for my first fill under floroscopy on July 30th and my MD placed 1 cc in the band and after a week I was able to eat the horse minus one leg and the tail.
So today I went to the MD's office (My DH was in the room with me) and he placed another 1.5cc in the band. Gave me Boost to drink and guess what!! I could not even swallow my own spit. :puke: Now I understand what to tight experienced it first hand. I ended up regurgitating the boost and mucus. So the MD unfilled me by .5cc's and sweet relief. You could even hear the fluid going through the band!!!!

So now I have a total of 5 cc's in my band. It was kind of scary not being able to swallow. It is amazing how just a little bit of saline can make such a big difference. I am glad that this happened in the office and not after I went home. I am on liquids now for a few days and then I will move on to soft. I do feel a greater restriction with the 5 cc than with the 4 cc. I am to return back to the MD's office on Sept 20th. I don't believe that I will need another fill for a little while.

On another note, it might sound weird but I seems that I was a bit upset to know now that I can't eat another horse.

I have 4 cc's in a 10cc band and feel like I can eat too much. I have just had one fill, about 3 weeks ago. After two weeks I had lost 10 pounds so the doctor didn't want to make it any tighter. I can eat a whole meal off a restaurant menu, including a large salad. I told my doctor that and he just said, don't eat the salad first! I have never had to vomit.

I had my 4th fill on Nov 1st and initial the Dr. wanted to bump me up from 6cc to 8cc of saline in may 10cc APS Band because I had my 3rd fill on Oct 9th and when I came back this time I had gained a little over a pound. The nurse that does the fills hand concerns because of the episode that I had back in August. So she took me up to 8 cc and gave me boost to drink and sure enough the fluid was not going through. So she backed me down do 7 cc total. I was able to drink the boost in small sips no problem. Well it is now day 2 and I don't feel pain but I feel pressure and like the liquid is backed up to my throat and I know that it is going through but it is very very slow. Today I was at work and I used 30cc cups and taking very small sips to drink my water and my protein shake. I felt like I did right after surgery back in June. I am only getting in maybe 500cc of water and 250cc of protein shake each day for the last 2 days. I know that there is swelling involved after a fill. But is this normal? I should be going to pureed foods for the next 2 days then soft foods for 2 days. Since my fill I have Pb'd 2 times and that was in the middle of the night going into the second day.

I have decided that if I continue to feel this discomfort I may go for a small unfill. But I will wait because in August I thought that I had found my sweet spot but after the swelling went away I was still able to consume the same amount that I did be for I had the adjustment with out any problems.
What do you think is going on with me. Your input is greatly appreciated.

You are too tight by far at present buthopefully it is at least part swelling- I would be talking to your Dr ASAP and see if they need to back of the fluid to allow the sweeling to ease off quciker- if you are only able to use 30 CC cups to measure your intake that talks about a degree that is to close to total obstruction! having done that we both know that is not far from where you are now! MY thoughts are to have a small unfill now to let the swelling settle then re add a percentage of what they remove- even a tiny amount can make a difference- for me ( different band system though) even an adjustment of 0.5ml can be significant and i have heard others react to even smaller adjustments as they get closer to the sweet spot but being overtight will elad you to frustration, pain and problems if you are not very careful indeed right now!

Hope, if you can't keep liquids down it definitely sounds like you're too tight. I have a 4 cc band, and 0.1 cc makes a BIG difference for me. It also sounds like your stomach is super sensitive to fills with swelling? Maybe you need to stay on liquids longer than Dr. V's normal protocols after each adjustment? I'd definitely give them a call. ... and repeated PB's can cause additional swelling / inflammation.

Yes give them a call tomorrow morning. You really don't want to mess around with being to tight.

I called Dr. V's office and left a message with Dawn. I have not PB'd since the last post and yesterday I was able to eat some mashed potato a little thinned without problems. I feel like I am full all the time. I am not having any pain and the pressure I felt is subsiding.

So right now I am waiting for a call. Thank you all for your posted. I will keep and update of how I am progressing. Be Blessed!!!!

I went for a 0.5 unfill on 11/9/2007 I could not get much fluids in or nourshment. I started to have the worst heartburn and reflux. I could not hardly sleep because I was afraid I was going to aspirate in may sleep. I had to sit up and sleep. That was not good. Now I am down to 6.5cc. But I feel like I did at 6.0cc's. I hope that I don't gain the weigh back that I have lost so far. I will be going back on December 13, 2007. Maybe they will give me a little fill not a whole cc. Me being at 7cc was an experience. According to the dr's scale I lost 16lbs and according to my home scale I lost 12lbs. So I am going with the lesser amount. Well until next time.

Well it has been a week since my unfill (0.5cc and 6.5cc in APS Band )and I have managed to gain 5 lbs back. Oh how frustrating. I don't know what to make of this. I feel like I am wide open and can eat anything. I don't feel any restriction at all. Well I have still not acheived the eluded sweet spot. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!!!!

not to be a negative nelly.......... BUT i HATE HATE HATE HATE
H A T E having the 10 cc band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! everyone that has it seems to have these issues (myself included) i think bc it is on the "newer" side compared to the other band, that docs don't realize yet how much they actually have to put IN it to get it to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have 7cc's in mine and LITTLE restriction. my doc won't give me anymore fills either. he said that as i lose, my anatomy will shift, and then i won't have anymore room to fill anymore.................. ugh. so i have to lose, but don't have correct adjustment to help me do that. so it's been struggle ontop of struggle for me.

so, in conclusion, i feel for ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No Jess I don't see you as being negative at all just honest and frustrated. I think our 10cc bands can go up to a max of 11cc. From some of the literature I have read good fills can range average from 5.8 to 7.6. I hope that I will stay in that range. I will be praying for you and your adjustments that you and I will both have our eluded sweet spots soon. Congrats on your upcoming wedding. Don't give up on your band just yet. Take care!!!!

Well I am off to the Dr. today for another adjustment. I have gain 12 pounds back since my unfill. I can eat anything and any amount with out any problems. Even my husband was like wow!!! I haven't seen you eat like that in a since before surgery. So needless to say I am frustrated and a little depressed. So I will post updates after I return from clinic.

Well, I am back from my 5th fill. I am at 6.8cc in a 10cc band. We went from 6.5cc's up to 7cc's (the fluid was hung in my throat) then back down to 6.9cc and I felt the fluid go down some . So we tried 6.8cc. The fluid is going down slow but it is going down. So I will see after a few weeks after this adjustment settles if I have good restriction. Wish me luck.

Adjustment #6 today. I went from 6.8cc to 7cc in my 10cc band. I hope that I won't experience being too tight like I was back in November 2006. So far my liquids are going down fine so I will know in a little while if it is to much for me. I seems now my fills have to be in smaller increments not to aggressive.

Wish me luck.

Hope and Jess - I have the 10cc band too and got some restriction at 8cc's. I don't seem to have the swelling problem after fills, though. I also don't have a lot of abdominal fat (I'm a pear...), so I don't have extra stuff pressing on the band. This worries me, because we can only put in so much fill, right?

I have been struggling with being able to eat too much - I have enough fill that if I eat too fast or don't chew something just right that I get stuck and/or PB. However, I am not restricted enough to actually have to take tiny bites and "chew to goo" so I don't have to follow the rules exactly which is dangerous. Sooo, I have a new surgeon and will be visiting him in a couple of weeks and am going to get another fill because I need to start living like I'm REALLY banded and get this weight loss thing really moving in the right direction.

This 10cc band thing IS frustrating. I want a little band!

Keep your chin up, Hope - eventually we'll all get this stuff figured out.

Momotrips, I have the small band and I have the same problems I am hungry so much and could probably eat 2 cups or more before feeling satisfied....but I have gotten stuck 3x in 3 days. Right now I feel like there is a golf ball in my chest and I have been slimming since lunch from some pork that I thought I had chewed to goo. It feels like it's still there and yet I'm really hungry. I think I'm going on liquids for a couple days. i'm susposed to get my 3rd fill tue. My band holds 5cc and I have 2cc now. Any one have advice?

I just finally got my fourth fill yesterday. I can only eat about one half of a cup right now and i am so glad. I am not hungry now like i was before the fill. I have 2.75 in a 4 cc band. I feel for you cause i know how it is if you do not have good restriction. I am real good for now. Donna
