Hey all~
i saw Jolyn yesterday and had my body composition done again first time since I had surgery and the numbers look great. I am loosing fat!!! and gaining muscle so that is a huge plus. I have also switch my water from outer cellular water to inter cellular water which make my cells work better. We did find out that I need 150 grams of protein a day and need to eat about 1500 calories a day. Yes that is right we sat and talked about what I can eat in the morning and what I cannot and I think it is do able but I will be eating 6 small meals a day. When I first saw Jolyn before surgery I followed her eating program and did great and the food I was eating was nothing strange or weird it was normal everyday food you can buy at the local market. I am back on the protein shake again and with also have to supplement during the day with a liquid flavored protein she suggested it comes in a test tube like bottle and she mixes it in her water but it has 42 grams of protein. I will get about 60 grams from shake and supplement and the remaining 90 from food. Plus all the food choices I have to choose from are for low GI. I am not insulin resistant but insulin sensitive so hopefully all this will help. I see Dr. Anderson on Wednesday I think I might have him remove about .25 cc since eating during the worked day is hard on me and most of it sticks. I now am starting to keep a journal on what I eat and what I drink oh yeah also I have to drink 72 oz of water a day - Good thing I like water and ice tea but the iced tea has to be decaffeinated.

I went to Jolyn today....OH MY GOSH!!! What a revelation!! She is unbelievable.
I filled out all of the paperwork. Within 5 minutes she asked if I had ever been tested for Celiac disease, Celiac is a digestive and autoimmune disorder that results in damage to the lining of the small intestine when foods with gluten are eaten. Glutens are a form of protein found in some grains. The damage to the intestine makes it hard for the body to absorb nutrients, especially fat, calcium, iron, and folate. The treatment for it is basically to stop eating gluten. She said that it goes hand in hand with many of the physical issues that I am dealing with. I sat in her office and cried. I have searched for years for someone who would understand the pain and suffering I have been going through my entire life. Plus the issues that my children have had to deal with. This is a hereditary disease and if we all have it, that could explain why my daughter (who has type1 diabetes) is unable to regulate her blood sugar. If my son has it it could explain why he is constantly sick and has psoriosis so bad. My brother has suffered with schizophrenia for over 20 years, she said that celiac and schizophrenia go hand in hand.
She is having me go to the Dr to be tested. She put me on a diet plan. She also said that this may be the reason I'm not losing with the band. Wow....I'm just amazed at her knowledge.
I got the following info about Celiac from WebMD
http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/celiac-disease/celiac-disease
What Causes Celiac Disease?
Normally, the body's immune system is designed to protect it from foreign invaders. When people with celiac disease eat foods containing gluten, their immune system forms antibodies to gluten which then attack the intestinal lining. This causes inflammation in the intestines and damages the villi, the hair-like structures on the lining of the small intestine. Nutrients from food are absorbed by the villi. If the villi are damaged, the person cannot absorb nutrients and ends up malnourished, no matter how much he or she eats.
Other causes of malabsorption include:
Heredity (a close relative who has the disease).
Medical procedures such as surgery, pregnancy or childbirth.
Diseases such as viral infections. What Are the Symptoms of Celiac Disease?
Symptoms of celiac disease vary among sufferers and include:
Digestive problems (abdominal bloating, pain, gas, diarrhea, pale stools, and weight loss).
A severe skin rash called dermatitis herpitiformis.
Anemia (low blood count).
Musculoskeletal problems (muscle cramps, joint and bone pain).
Growth problems and failure to thrive (in children).
Seizures.
Tingling sensation in the legs (caused by nerve damage and low calcium).
Aphthous ulcers (sores in the mouth).
Missed menstrual periods. What Health Problems Accompany Celiac Disease?
Celiac disease can leave a person susceptible to other health problems, including:
Osteoporosis, a disease that weakens bones and leads to fractures. This occurs because the person has trouble absorbing enough calcium and vitamin D.
Miscarriage or infertility.
Birth defects, such as neural tube defects (improper formation of the spine) caused by poor absorption of such nutrients as folic acid.
Seizures.
Growth problems in children because they don't absorb enough nutrients.
Cancer of the intestine (very rare).People who have celiac disease may have other autoimmune diseases, including:
Thyroid disease
Type 1 diabetes
Lupus
Rheumatoid arthritis
Sjögren's syndrome (a disorder that causes insufficient moisture production by the glands)

Thanks Deb~
I was with her for almost 2 hours. She had so much information. Things that could help me plus others in my family. The knowledge she has is incredible. I'm very excited to get my life in order. I've been sick most of my life and this could be the reason why.

Wow Julz!!!
Jolyn is good, one part of you hopes you don't have a condition but the other hopes that you do so then atleast you know how to work with it. I am amazed at how good I feel by just eating the right foods. I am now working out in the gym and just over all feeling so much better. I want to take my nephew to see her so he follows the right steps with bulking up for football and not just what other kids are doing and what the coaches are saying. She knows her stuff.

truly amazing Julz---sadly you needed this information years ago but at least now you are armed and ready to take action when you get the test results back - in the meantime Jolyn sounds like an awesome nutritionist! And to think your kids can be helped too - what a bonus! Good luck and please post and let us know how things are progressing

Jacqie~
I agree....I hate the thought of another condition. However, if this is the one causing everything else then I will have direction. I have felt like s**t all of my life. If my mother has this then past it to me because of what she was eating. Then I did the same with my kids it would explain so much. My mom made an interesting comment, she said to me today, "You didn't feel good before I was born." I told my mom I don't have a quality of life.
I said to Jolyn how am I supposed to work when I never feel good. She said, "You can't!!" Jolyn is the first person who has understood me. I just love her!!
Mo~
You are correct. It's too bad but at least now maybe I can work towards having the best quality of life I can have for the rest of my life!!! Jolyn is so knowledgeable. She has so much good information. All the stuff that Dr's don't know about nutrition. She is great.
