I have an appointment to get my 2nd fill on Wednesday. Right now, it doesn't take much for food to get stuck. I really have to make sure I eat slowly and take small bites. But I can eat well more than a cup full of food in one sitting. I know that a fill will help this. But will I have more of a problem with food getting stuck with another fill?

I have 2 cc's in my band and everything solid is getting stuck. I now have severe reflux and even the prevacid is not helping much. I am only able to eat a few tablespoons of really soft foods. Can't eat any solid protein. I would love to be able to eat a cup of something healthy. I wasn't bothered so much at first, because I was at least drinking my protein, but now with the reflux problem, it's unbearable!!!!

Hi berry, If solids are getting stuck now, I would talk it over with the Dr. You may already have the right restriction. You say you can eat more than a cupfull? I could too. Do you feel not hungry at a cup? I found that if I ate until not hungry instead of eating until I felt full, that I did ok. My Dr said that it takes 30 minutes to feel full, so if you eat slower, you may feel better with less food. Just some ideas. Keep us posted. :)

Hi Bgrand :) It sounds like you might be too tight. You should be able to eat solid prtoeins with the band. Being too tight can be worse than not tight enough. Being to tight can also cause band slipping and erosions and the reflux your experienceing. What has the Dr said about your symptoms. Hope you feel better :)

Try not to get so tight that you can't eat anything. Reflux is not pleasant and can lead to other problems as Neal said. Berry, I agree with Neal that you dont want to risk being too tight and maybe you need to listen to your body...stop after one cup and wait a while. Do you feel better and full? If so get on with life, if not go back and eat a little more and then stop again...see if that helps.

I think some people do not concider what a "sitting" means. you need to time it. If I eat slow i can eat all day long. But I limit my eating to 15 minutes. That is a sitting. 15-20 minutes. If you are getting in more than a cup after that you are just eating at the rate that the food passes through the band and not doing yourself any good. Definitely make sure you do not get to the point where you are too tight. It can cause damage to your stomach.

If you take small bitews, *chew to goo*, only eat for 15-20 minutes, and only eat 1/2 - 1 cup, you probably will be OK. A fill doesn't mean that you will necessarily get stuck, but it is really important to chew well.

Talk it over with your doc or fill nurse when you go in.
