Your Bariatric Surgeon would have provided to you, information on what exercises are recommended directly after surgery. The information should have also stated how long you should wait to do certain kinds of exercise such as running, weight lifting, etc.
Here is a breakdown of what exercises I have done and at which phase/weeks out of surgery.
1st week - daily
10 - 15 minutes of light walking
10 - 15 minutes or 1 - 3 miles of light biking
2nd - 6th week - daily
15 - 30 minutes of light to brisk walking
15 - 30 minutes or 3-6 miles of light - moderate biking
6th week and out - daily
30 min - 2 hours of brisk walking - moderate - intense jogging/running
30 min - 2 hours of light - moderate - intense biking
Weight training/Circuit training 2 - 3x's per week
Abdominal work
Aerobic exercise, i.e., step classes, kickboxing, spinning
It is very important to not lift weights or do crunches for the first 6 weeks out from your surgery. You are in the healing phase in this timeframe and your stitches and scaring will need to stabalize. Using weights or performing crunches prematurely may cause pain or other complications related to healing and your band.
