View Full Version : Any suggestions on workout tapes?
Hey guys. Sorry I have been inviseable for a while. I just got done with a ton of finals and started my summer job. I also started a new show, so my life has been a bit hectic. Rest assured I have still been reading the threads! So many new people! Even a new baby!
So here's my question. I live in a dorm and my funds are low, so joining a gym here in Boston is hard. Luckily, there are ellipticals and treadmills in the building. I am looking into exercize tapes. I really really want a fun one. I enjoy dancing and stuff. Does anyone have any suggestions on really enjoyable workout tapes.
Thanks so much!

I bought some Windsor Pilates videos from a gal here at work 4 weeks ago, and I still haven't even tried them. They are supposed to be great. It is really good that your dorm has ellipticals and treadmills. Start off with that and you will go far! :) good luck!
Carmen Electra's Strip Videos are fun.
No, really, they are! :)

there are some fitness dvd's based on belly dancing and that sounds like it could be fun- i have not actually watched one though.
I have a fun one that is good for those of us who have mobility problems, "Chair dancing around the world" - a remarkably good workout even though it is all seated

I am doing the Transfimer video series. You are supposed to have visible results in 3 weeks. I'll let you know in 3 weeks if they are worth it!

Billy Blanks "boot camp" is great. I get a workout from laughing at myself. Seriously, it's fun and kicks your butt at the same time.

i ve seen the infomercials about the bill blanks tapes and they do look like fun
Haa, I had to do Billy Blanks in high school! I'd love to do it again, but I don't have a lot of space. Just a teeny dorm. I'd use the big room downstairs, but I'd be too afraid that someone would walk in. That would be terribly humiliating!
Thanks for all of your input guys! I hope this works!! Thanks again!

Leslie Sansome has some great tapes that involve indoor walking. Marching in place side steps, knee raises and light kicks. You could easily do this in a dorm room. Look on ebay or Amazon for a used copy for $15.00 or less. She has 1-4 mile tapes. I particulary like her tape Walk Strong, a 30 minute tape that combines light weights, squats and indoor walking. I also like her 4 mile express workout tape. I use both tapes multiple times each week and have great results. So they are effective, in expensive and don't take much space. If you have enough space to march in place you have enough room for these tapes.
Good luck.

If you have treadmills and ellipticals at your disposal, you've got the aerobic part covered, its very hard to get as good a long aerobic workout from DVD's after you've gotten a good base fitness. I'd suggest downloading www.cardiocoach.com onto your MP3, seriously AWESOME interval style workout that works fantastically well for the elliptical (and the treadmill if you do speed rather than incline adjustments to it), makes the time fly. And if you buy DVD's perhaps some strenght training/toning ones and some small handweights or bands.
I dont really enjoy DVD's though, once I've done it once or twice I lose interest totally, so perhaps I'm biased.
I LOVE The Firm's line of total body sculpting videos. They are strength training, but they kick my butt! My heart rate stays up for the whole video!

I agree. I haven't done it religiously since I am doing strength at my gym workout but I think I may add it again tonight!

I cannot work out without great music. I'm a big fan of Jazzercise videos. They even have a hip hop video that is a lot of fun. If you've ever taken a jazz dance class, it's similar (not nearly as difficult), but you basically learn several moves and put them together to really fun music. I like to go to classes at our Jazzercise studio, too! Reminds me of my glory days as a musical theatre performer.

I have the walking tapes and they are great, especially when you want to get a walk in and it is raining outside. Also, I have these "Yoga Booty Ballet" tapes that are a bunch of fun too!! Hope this is of some help!:sun_smiley:
