Hi there,

I'm researching to see if the lapband is the best choice for me. I am seriously thinking about taking this step to ensure a longer healthier lifestyle. I wanted to see if anyone could give me information on the cost of this procedure...Thank you for any assistance

I cna't help you as I live in Australia so the costs are not going to be similar- i can say that alot of people have equated it with the cost of a car, and have said that it is a better investment than the care evenif you need to self pay. I have seen from other posts that it is worth doing a lot of research as cost seem to varying a great deal, some seem to include band fills for a given period after the procedure and with others they have to pay for each fll- I am sure you will get a lot of more useful answers than this from "locals". in the meantime, welcome to B2G

I was self pay but got prices at three University hospitals beforehand. They ranged from 23800.00 to 34000.00 but I didn't want to have to wait so I went to Mexico and self paid and it was 8500.00.

First off welcome to B2G! I am from the Puyallup Graham area.
I was self pay $12,800. Dr. Srikanth with Center for Weight Loss Surgery is my surgeon and I follow up with him monthly. I was banded last May and have lost 150 lbs. I think you will find the price in the states will vary. As you can see many have go to Mexico. I could only tell you to check with those that have had it done there. Where are you located? We have a monthly support group and will start a walk the pounds off! starting this week. If you are from the area you are welcome to join us!
Feel free to contact me. Good luck on your search.

islndgrl, My insurance did not cover my surgery. It did cover all my pre-op and has covered my care so far except for my fills. My suggestion would be to contact your insurance company and see what they offer.

My insurance did not cover it, but I went to mexico for mine and it cost me 9000. (I was 500 extra because my bmi was above 50)

I know that in the states there are plenty of programs that surgeons offer. And the prices are as low as you saw with Chevygirl. I do agree that you should just give your insurance company a call and see what they have to say in regards to your policy.

My insurance covered mine, but I think that he charges around $14,000 for self pay. A lot of it depends on what part of the country your in. I see big swings in prices around the country.

I'm curious too! Why is there such a difference in cost? $12,000;$16,000; $5,000- What am I missing? What questions should I be asking?

I am in the researching stage and looking into the costs as well.

Did you have to pay for the port replacement. Also, did the $9950 cover the preop testing?

Does anyone know any other surgeons in the US that have their costs competitively priced vs. Mexico (under $10,000)?

Thanks for replying

Heyyy. I was a self pay and it cost me 20,000. This also covers three years worth of fills and it's guarenteed, so if I have an issue within 3 years it's also covered.

Shoot... I didn't realize how lucky I really am!

MJHopeful. I also had my surgery done in WA by Dr Srikanth and I felt that his price was very fair. Make sure you check around your area and ask lot's of questions. And if you do decide to go to Mexico make sure that you find a doctor close to you that will take care of you after the surgery. Be informed is the best advice ever. Good luck on your journey! Also I think that some companies on group health have chosen to cover the procedure like Microsoft employee health has. Check with your provider.

for comparison... in Charlotte NC, with one night in the hospital and the first year of fills and followups covered it was about $21,000

You will probably have to go to fill centers usa and it will be $300 for the initial visit and $150 every fill afterwards.
