Ok Ok Ok, I will go first. ;) Hi my name is Angie, I am recently seperated from my husband and I have three beautiful little girls. I was banded on the 30th of June 2005 and I have lost 50 pounds to date. I have had 2 fills and havent lost a pound on either one? Go figure, Im not eating right? I need to get my butt in gear and get this weight off. I have a guy interested but I am still self conscious about my body and want to feel good about myself with that. Hopefully you all understand what I am trying to say here. lol Well thats me in a nut shell.

Hi Angie and all North Carolinians out there.
I'm from Waynesville, just west of Asheville. I was banded 8/16/06 and have had no fills. I'm still on liquids and start mushies this week.
But Angie....You lost 50 pounds but none since your fills? How frustrating. What kind of band do you have?

Hey all! I'm Kathy in Charlotte. I was banded April 8, 2005 by Dr Kuri in TJ, MX. I have lost just shy of 50 band pounds so far, almost 70 from my high weight. I'm a slow loser, but I love my band! We have a great group here, so welcome everyone!!!

Greetings, Im Jill from CLT. Im married with one heck of a daughter who just started pre-k(sniff.. rides on the big kid bus to school) and an awesome hubby.
I just started my journey, I was banded on 8-15, but down over 20lbs. My scale is stupid and is not consistent. I know I am somewhere in the 270's today, but just not sure where.
I joined the Huntersville Aquatic Center, so let me know if there is anyone else out there who goes and we can meet up!!

Hi - I did a brief intro in the main forum - but thought I should say "howdy" and introduce myself here as well!
I am one of those rare natives - born and raised in NC! My husband is a native too, which is very odd here in Cary. For those of you not familiar with Cary, it is the C-ontainmnent A-rea for R-elocated Y-ankees, right outside of Raleigh!
I just had to ask my hubby how long we had been married! (I'm not good with dates!). We have been married 8 1/2 years. Tomorrow marks the 4 year anniversary of my 2 stepdaughters living with us full-time, exclusively. They are now 15 and 17 and are turning out to be beautiful young ladies. I am truly proud to call them 'my daughters'.
At this point, I have done all the prelim stuff - and as soon as the results from my endoscopy (done yesterday) are received, the dr's office should be submitting packet to insurance company for approval! They WILL approve! They BETTER approve!
My goal is to lose 140 lbs - the amount I have put on since I quit smoking 10 years ago. Can't wait to get started!!!!

Welcome, Cathy! You must be the only NC native in Cary. I never knew there was such a thing!
I am actually a NC native here in Asheville. We are a rare breed, indeed. I married out of my species. He's a a Connecticut Yankee!

Oh Cathy,
I'm packing up tomorrow to move to Cary. I am a mislocated Yankee. New Yorker for life. I am in a city called Gastonia and there aren't many yankee's in the redheckghetto where I live. I run into Yankee's all the time in Charlotte, but nothing in gastonia.
Funny thing about Gastonia, it's like six degree's of seperation. I met my current closest friend here in gastonia. Guess where she's from, come on.
She and my husband went to high school together and never knew each other until we moved to Gastonia. She was my daughter's daycare teacher that's how we became friends. My daughter's first baby teacher was from BOSton, with the accent all the way.
My daughter is a southern belle, born in Charlotte, being raised in the redneck ghetto! I love the south you cannot beat the weather.

Hi there! I posted in the welcome forum but here I am! I'm Melissa, 35 y.o. single mom of 2 kids (boy age 6 and girl age 9). I live in Charlotte and was banded 1/4/07 by Dr. Keith Gersin at CMC Mercy. I work for Carolinas Healthcare at a busy pediatric practice full time and I love my job!
My soon to be ex a&& left me last year for an older, richer, heavier version...but now that I'm getting this new body in shape; and feel better than I ever have, I'm actually really happy!
I also am very active in my church, as well as a Girl Scout Leader.
Glad to be one of the "biggest losers!"

Hello,
I think some of you may know me, but just in case, my name is Denika Menis.I was banded on July 26th, 2005. I did great initially, but have been losing really slowly for some time now. It's all my fault though! I've been making bad choices and not exercising, so I can't blame it on my band at all. It does it's job, I just don't always do mine!
I live in Hiddenite, which is close to Taylorsville and Hickory, with my husband Jimmy and my son Jamie. http://www.cleftadvocate.org/ff0404Jamie.html
He is going to be 5 on January 31st! I can't believe that! (I also will be having a birthday on the 30th, but let's not talk about that.) God has truly blessed me more than I could ever ask for or deserve with our son and everything else in our lives, including leading me to find out about the Lapband. So, I try to not let a chance go by without thanking him and telling people about how wonderful he is.:D
I am so thankful that we North Carolina bandsters have this wonderful place to get support, advice, and friendships! I hope I can help someone here sometime too!

Thanks everyone.
I feel really lucky to have found this website. I was banded on 01/25/06 ( 1 year ago today). To date I have lost 65 pounds and I know that if I had watched what I ate and did more exercise it could have been more. Dr Bauman (Mac yummy) did my surgery. I have had 2 fills, but plan to go in Monday for a third. I hope to meet everyone at the luncheon. I will try to sign on friday night, but I must warn you, I haven't ever be in a chatroom before. ( Are these the kind of things, my mother used to warn me about?)
Anyway, thanks for all the warm welcomes. You guys really are the best!

I posted this in a thread of mine but wanted to post it here as an introduction. I'm hoping for some kind of award for the most smileys ever used. :wof: What is this one? Double vision?
My name is Gina and I live in Charlotte, NC. I'm looking into the surgery with either Dr. Voellinger or Dr Bauman. I don't think insurance will pay but I'm going to try an appeal if it doesn't go through. If it doesn't, I'll just sell a kidney. :scared: I'm also thinking I might be able to get some of the pre-testing covered through my primary doc - he's awesome and I'm sure will help in whatever way he can.
I'm married to my highschool sweetheart - it took us 11 years to get married but we went to our senior prom together and started dating at 17  Our 6th anniversary is this April and I will be turning 35  in March. 35 wouldn't be so bad if I didn't feel like every commercial or article is about how much less likely you are to have a healthy baby after 35... no babies yet and we want a family so much. Part of my decision to get the LapBand is based on it helping me lose enough weight to safely have a baby or to be better able to keep up with one whether we adopy or have our own. I love kids. (Not the ones that point and laugh or stare with their little mouths hanging open... the OTHER kids:biggrin1: )
I'm not even sure how much I weigh anymore but I know I passed 400 a few months ago and pretty well panicked - aaaa! I wasn't overweight growing up - was never a size 2 but I was a healthy weight and wore and size 10 went I left for college. Let's just say the freshman 15 kicked off one heck of a snowball effect I have yet to stop or reverse by more than 40-50 pounds at a time and never permanently. After gaining weight for 10 years and insisting that something was NOT RIGHT with my bod, I was finally diagnosed with PCOS - Aha! But basically, the more you gain, the harder it is to get it off and keep it off. That's part of why I have finally realized that my most realistic shot at longterm sustained weight loss is with the LapBand.
And now, because these smileys are so funny I can't stop laughing, I wil tell you some things I am looking forward to...
* Not doing this every time I get on the scales:faint:* Being able to jump for joy :high5: * Not running from cameras :photo: *Dancing!!*Not hiding from children I don't know for fear of them informing me..."You;re BIG!!" :behindsofa: * Maybe being a Mom some day :preggers:* Not having the constant urge to BOLT when people start talking about "dieting" :bolt: * Being able to sit in arm chairs and booths :couch2: * Taking a bubble bath that I fill to cover me and getting out to find more than 3 inches of water in the tub - ha ha!! :bathbaby: *Making b2g friends :typing:
And the only things I'm nervous about are... * Losing food as a friend:pop2: and what about those PBs?! :puke:
Hope you all don't think I have lost my mind with these smiley  but I just had to get it out of my system. :)

Gina,
You are a hoot! I also love your smilies!! I have PCOS too. Isn't it just so much fun?! The only good thing about finding out I had it was that all of the weird things that I had going on with my body finally made sense.
You sound like a great person, I know that with your attitude, sense of humor, and spirit, you will succeed with your weight loss and will make a GREAT Mommy someday!

Hi other Cathy,
I have 5 dogs total. 4 chihuahuas (hoping to start raising them, if my females will work with me on this adventure.) and 1 french bulldog that I've had for 10 years.( I thought that he was just a fat boston terrier, but he looks more like a french bulldog) They are like furry children, and are all spoiled rotten. I just love pugs too. If I didn't have chihuahuas I would have pugs.

Hi
My name is Hope. I am hoping to have the Lap Band. I will be going to a Lap Band Seminar with Dr. Voellinger on 1/29/2006. I do have a scheduled consultation with Dr. V in February. So I hope to have my surgery by the end of June 2007.
I have read the post here all of you guys a great. I will be coming to the support group meeting at Red Robin next month in Charlotte.

Greetings! I am so happy to have found this board! So many other sites just focus on RNY and have such a bias against the band, this forum is so encouraging. I'm 34, live in Apex with my wonderful husband and delightful 5 year old daughter. I'm pursuing the band with Dr. Moran and have completed almost all of my preliminary appointments, only one left to go. I love to travel, read, bead, and anything creative with my daughter. I also love a good lounge on the couch ;-) I look forward to interacting with everyone!

Hello Everyone! I'm a newbie to this site. I stumbled upon it by accident, but am glad to have done so! I'll be exploring the site to get to know everyone in the next couple of days. I am at the end of my recovery period of surgery. I was banded on January 16 by Dr. Gersin in Charlotte and will return to work Monday. If only I had found this site before now. Better late than never, huh? Anyway....a little about me. I live in Charlotte, single, no children, have a cat and a dog, work in medical field, and originally from Indiana. Due to the timing of my first post, I'm going to have to throw in a little shout out to my COLTS for their big game tomorrow, too :) Anyway, bear with me as I get acquainted to the site, and I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Waves to Stacey  and Welcome to the NC family at B2G!! You are so welcomed here. We are a bit crazy, sincerely fun, focused & unfocused at times, always deeply caring, and most importantly super supportive of each other. You will understand that better as you talk/write/read all of B2G and as you grow in knowledge and exsperance with your lap-band. Several in our NC family of B2G have had other WLS other than the lap-band; but regardless of the method or the Dr./clinic we use, we are all bonded by our mutal goal to be healthier and happier lliving in our new smaller bodies just experiencing life.
So-o-o-o :welcome: and jump in by asking questions and telling us what you think.

Hey guys! I'm in the process of getting approval for the LB and plan on having Dr. Voellinger perform the sugery (Hi, Kim). I'm 232 lbs and only 5'1". I know........I'm as round as I am tall! I have a lot of questions because I originally focused on having a GB. My DH is a little worried about the GB so we're compromising and I'm going fo the LB. Any information you can give me about the procedure and life afterwards (including diet) will be greated appreciated. I can't wait for my life to change!

Hi, I'm Debbie and I just found this site today after meeting a couple of great ladies in the waiting room at Dr. Voellinger's office. Hi Kim! It's so great to see a familiar face here. I'd love to join you all on the 13th. Is it a lunch or just snacks and talk? Let me know what I can bring. I live five minutes from the office and could offer up my home as an alternate spot for meetings in the future if there was ever a conflict...... hey could we do some cooking lessons here? I have a huge kitchen but don't know thing one about cooking healthy. I had my surgery last Wednesday at Mercy and everything went so well. I had NO gas pains at all and just some tenderness. The thing that keeps me from doing cartwheels is the lack of energy I'm experiencing. It must be my age, I'm 48, and I just don't bounce back like I used to. For those of you familiar with Dr. V's office and staff, I am the one who "bumped" into Renee's car today in the parking lot. I thought the pain meds were out of out my system but apparently they're not completely gone yet. I've been taken off driving duty til the end of the week. Renee is such a sweetie, she didn't even get mad at me. Love you, Renee!
So, I'm really looking forward to meeting you all on the 13th. I'm thinking by then I should have my oldget up and go back again. Oh,,, and one more thing..........................I've lost 20 pounds since I started my preop liquid diet and I'm currently losing one pound a day. I can't wait for the mushies!!!!!!

I am going through all the pre-op stuff now...All my appts are made and I hope to have the surgery in Jan or Feb. I am going through Dr. Gersin at CMC Mercy Surgery. All I have left is the endoscopy and the nutrition consult and I should be good to submit to insurance by the beginning of December.

I am new to the website. I am located in Canton, NC (papertown), 20 miles west of Asheville.
Banding set for November 19th. Am on pre-op liquid diet now. I had setback with insurance company 'renigging' on coverage last week, but I have cried & cried & cussed & fussed, but it didn't change anything so this tough broad is ready to move ahead. I found a CC with no interest until June 08, so I am not looking back.
I have 4 'semi-grown' kids (2 daughters, 32 & 30 + twin sons, 26); 2 inlaws; 3 grandkids. I have been through many obstacles in my adult life, but with God's grace & a wonderful husband, made it through. I will make it through this as well.
I am 51 years old; 4'11", 197 lbs, at my heaviest. I have been overweight since I was 20, but over all pretty healthy, but the past 5 years I have developed health problems directly attributed to my weight. As many of you I have been on every diet & weight loss program known to man & lost & gained several hundred pounds as a result. My grandmother, who was the same height as me, died at 65 with heart disease. I have decided that I want more than 14 more years.
Thank you all in advance for your words of wisdom, not to mention a few thoughts & prayers in the next few weeks.

I have been walking the last week. I walked with hubby, who is 6'1". I take 3 steps to his one. Yesterday I walked with hub & daughter. They treat me like a child " You gotta pick up the pace; you gotta walk uphill; 30 minutes isn't enough." :cussing: :running:Today I walked by myself & all I can say is "Thank you, Jesus." I walked 1-1/2 miles in 30 minutes. :bolt:I am the one who always said they were allergic to excercise, but it actually felt good. Did I just say that?!#%&&&?????
4th day of liquid diet. I have really not been hungry. Granny's Chicken Palace is next door to my office, Bojangle's is across the road. :drool1:The smells in the evening as I go to my car are the hardest, but still actually haven't been that bad. I am just so ready for November 19th. I am so ready to get on with my life; make that a healthier life.
All for now.:bandme:

Mimi R, Congradulation on your upcoming surgery. Where and by who are you having it done by so I can update our list. I understand completely about the liquid diet but just remember that if you can't control your craving, it means that you are eather dehydrated and need more water or you need more protein so fix you that extra shake. You should not be hungry on the pre-op diet. I lost 11 pounds before surgery then 6 more two weeks post-op. But going back on solid food ...well let's just say I am holding my own. I wish you extremely well as you join us in bandland.

My hub started the night shift, so I am all alone, which usually is my worse temptation. But, Lord help me, I'm great. I keep pumping the
Special K protein drink :wink2: :thirsty:
& watching my NEW season 9 Seinfeld DVD's I bought today!!!:thegame:
Surgery is November 19th, 8:30 am, at St. Joseph Hospital, Asheville, by Dr. Peeter Soosar. I will stay overnight since Dr. Soosar likes to have an x-ray the next morning before you go home to make sure band is in good shape & positioned correctly. :couch2:
Well, Kramer & Newman are making sausages, so I guess I better grab another Special K!!!!!!

Hi, I am Cari and heard about this board from my NP at yesterday's appointment. I live in WNC in Fletcher (near Asheville) with my DH of almost 2 years. I am in my 4th month of the lap band process and my papers are about to be filed at the end of January for my insurance approval (fingers crossed). I have gone through everything and now the waiting begins. I will be getting the surgery with Dr. Chris Edwards at Mission Hospital. I have BCBS NC state plan which covers it, I am just hoping it will cover it for me!
I am starting to get nervous as it gets closer, but I am so excited too. I just really need my insurance to cover this, as I don't think we can do self pay at all. I really like this site and am very happy to have found this board. I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts and look forward to reading more!

The only support I know of in Concord is held @ Northeast, not sure of the date or time. Sorry! I know it's for all types of WLS patients and I think it's what they call an open support group meaning that it's open to any surgeon's patients. I personally have never been becuase I have been w/ the lap-band folks since I was banded. Our little group has grown so much that we started having it @ Southeast Bariatrics (yes I work there) the 2nd saturday of every month. Dr V had sent me to Support Group training and so now I get to use it. :) At any rate....I try to post about it about 2 weeks before the meeting to remind everyone. So no matter where you go you will need support it is what has pulled me through the last 2 1/2 years. Oh our support group on Saturday is band focused. Anyone is welcome but the talk is mostly all band.
Welcome - Sarah, Patrick and Michelle!!!! (Glad to Patrick posting here we need more guys on the boards. :) )

hello everyone I am new so here is a little about me.
my name is Renea first name Joanna but go by Renea. I am from Belmont N.C and am now waiting for a date to get my band. I am excited, Scared, glad all rolled into one. But know it is the right choice for me.
I have many health problems and want to get hold to them before something happens to me. Being a nurse and knowing what I know I wonder how I got in this shape, But I am human. The biggest fear I have is losing my feet and legs my dad did before he died. I also dont want to have to have someone take care of me. I am a caregiver, a mother and a wife and I want to be the one to take care of them so I need to take care of myself. I have been married 26 years and have a 25 year old daughter. Who is a wonderful girl and a support she is very strong is in the army and has been deployed to Iraq twice first time turned 21 in the desert. :usa::usa: When I grow up I want to be like her. My husband is sweetest man and loves me dearly. Loves me the way I am. But will support me even though he is nervous. I am his "honeylamb" :flower_hugs: I have a cat she is a diva kitty. I hope I didnt bore you. I am usually backwards when it comes to things like this but i cant wait to be a true bandster. So say a prayer it wont be long. Dr V is my doc and I went to my first support group Sat by myself so I am becoming a stronger person than I thought I was cant wait to get to know you all.

I live in Mooresville, just north of Charlotte. Married, 2 step-kids, banded in November 2006, work full time in a small community bank, I play tennis and I love to go out with my band friends, so if anyone is looking for fun...PM ME!

Hey everyone. I started the process about a year ago. Waiting to see a counselor to get cleared for surgery (loooong story). But I hope to get this over with soon. LOL.I find the waiting is the worst part. Just thought I would drop in and say hello. So, hello. I am working with Dr. Voellinger in Charlotte, I really like him.

Hey, Mike! Welcome to B2G! There is a group in Charlotte that has regular meetings on Saturdays, don't remember which Saturday of the month it is. Kim who does the insurance at Dr. V's office is on here and she usually posts here when there are meetings. Good luck with getting through the process and keep us updated on your progress!

I hope it goes through. LOL. Any tips for talking to the counselor?

Should I go in and after every question act like I am consulting with an invisible attorney? LOL.

The best way to get through that appointment is to be honest! I dreaded it and it wasn't that bad. You might ask some of Dr. V's patients because I think they all went through the same psych, they might be able to give you a better idea of what to expect. Of course, if any of them came around here any more they could probably answer themselves! Yoo hoo! Where is everybody?

Hi Mike, welcome. Dr V. is a great surgeon and he and his staff will do everything in their power to assist you with the process. Our meetings are usually held on the second Sat each month at 11:30 am. Do contact Kim at the Dr office and she will give you all the pertinent details. Just keep going forward and things will always work out.
Mike,
I felt like I failed one question - because I could not remember when the first fill is... but mine will be about 6 weeks out (not there yet) -but it is not a test - just an understanding of the process.
The important thing is to be honest with yourself as to the reasons you are where you are - and why you want to go forward with the surgery, and your ability to follow the guidelines.

Well, I went to see the psychiatrist yesterday. got the OK for the surgery. I was worried and found that I had good reason to be.
Long story short, the person who handled me initial psychiatric consultation had flubbed my history. According to this person, I had been hospitalized for several months due to a breakdown and also missed three months of work due to another breakdown. True, I did have two episodes that required a physician, but it was strictly outpatient treatment. I had to go through the whole story with the therapist yesterday and correct those items.
I am happy that my surgery is back on, but at the same time, I am HIGHLY irritated with this person for fumbling things so badly. I am thinking of sending a terse, but respectful letter to their boss outlining the mistake and what it has cost me. Would this do any good, or should I just be happy that my surgery is back on track and get over it?
Also, has anyone else had this problem? I am not trying to start trouble or slam anyone. I do not believe this person to be dishonest or even incompetent. I just personally believe that this person dropped the ball and has made things difficult for me the past few months.
I mean no offence and am looking forward to working with the surgeon and everyone. I appreciate everyone's support on this board as well. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated as I only wish to prevent this from happening to anyone else. In the grand scheme of things it is not a big deal, but it is very frustrating to have to jump through extra hoops because something was not done properly.
I thank you again for any advice you can spare.
Thanks,
Mike.

Jsut spoke with the person who handled my initial consultation. she said she reviewed her notes and had made an error in regards to my situation. She apologized and said that she would write an addendum to the original report detailing the corrections along with the follow-up note from the second therapist. She was very nice about the whole thing and things seem to be back on track.

Mike - I'd say call and talk to KIM. She works for Dr. V AND has been a member on this board for a long time. She can probably recommend what the best course of action would be for what happened to you. You're right - it shouldn't have happened to you and certainly shouldn't happen to the next person.
Kudos for hanging in there - sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders and you stayed calm and got things worked out.

Patience is a necessary virtue in both the banded journey and the pre-surgery.

Thanks everyone. It was aggravating but I'm glad I was able to keep calm throughout. I am waiting to hear back on when they get the note from the therapist, then it's off to the races again. LOL. I appreciate these boards, I have learned A LOT since I began coming here.

Hey, my name is Cori and I live in Raleigh, 3 miles south of Downtown. I am working with Dr. Bruce (he works with Dr. Enoch) and everyone is super nice and super efficient. I have a BMI of 38 and I am worried BSBC (PPO) will deny me. I have an upper endoscopy this Thursday and my psych eval is in an hour. Keep your fingers crossed!:scared-2:

Yes, Kristina. This is one of the threads that NC uses. We also usually have a chat thread as well. Do not know how many from here are coming. We had a huge turnout at the last one (of course it was in Charlotte). I do know that I am not able to work out my schedule to come to this one. I have posted that on the other thread many weeks ago.

I will ask around, but, I have not heard of anyone from this area planning on going. That is a shame. I do know that our main group has seemed to splinter up the last few months as everybody started going in different directions. At our Sat support group, sometimes I am the only face I know.

Thinking about that, that might not be bad. I hope it is because people are getting with their lives and getting involved in activities that they would not have in past years. I do like to be optimistic.

Hey, you have come to the right place. We actually have a support group in Charlotte led by Kim G. It is mostly Dr Vollingers patients but they let me come too and I will be doctor Pirello's patient (at Presby Matthews). I haven't been banded yet but these guys are the greatest. Welcome to B2G
