could one of you post the recipe for this magcal egg drop soup?? I hear a lot about it and everyone says its a good way of getting protein in when you are a bit tight/band irritated. Its getting towards winter here and I am always looking for good soup recipes for the cold weather

Most chinese resturants sell it and it is large amounts for very little money! Its like $1 for a pint and $2 for a quart. Little bit goes long way. Why make it when you can get it so cheaply and eat what you want and heat up leftovers for later date!

That's what I paid for it!! $2 quart!!

karen, this is super hot chicken broth with egg stirred through. You might be able to find a seasoning packet at the grocery where you add water, boil, then egg. I know I have seen recipes posted, but it's never as good as what you pick up at the corner Chinese take-out. I sure wish you had one nearby! :(

Yup, egg drop soup RAWKS! I swear by the stuff, post-op AND post-fill. :thumb:

Here's one recipe. There are many more online.

4 cups chicken broth or stock
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 -2 green onions, minced
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
Salt to taste
A few drops of sesame oil (optional)
PREPARATION:
In a wok or saucepan, bring the 4 cups of chicken broth to a boil. Add the white pepper and salt, and the sesame oil if using. Cook for about another minute.
Very slowly pour in the eggs in a steady stream.
To make shreds, stir the egg rapidly in a clockwise direction for one minute. To make thin streams or ribbons, gently stir the eggs in a clockwise direction until they form.
Garnish with green onion and serve.

Egg Drop soup is one of my favorites. It doesn't look very filling, but it really is.

Here is another recipe slightly different from the one above. I have made this several times. Yes, it is so inexpensive to buy already made that it is hardly worth making. These ingredients are easy to keep on hand and it's quick to fix when you just don't feel like getting out.
Egg Drop Soup

"The best egg drop soup I've ever had!!! Reheats well in microwave."

just sitting here enjoying my own version of egg drop soup made from a combination of the suggestions here and it is very nice (IMHO of course!)

4 cups of chicken stock made with boullion cubes
3 green onions ( spring onions we call them here)
little bit of garlic powder ( pinch)
pepper
teaspoon of sweet soy ( indonesian soy/kecap manis)
1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil
2 teaspoon of white rice wine vinegar
I can of sweet corn blitz in the bullet with a bt of the stock
chuck all the above in together until simmering ncely, let the onion cook through
then beat 1 egg and stir through ( ionly had one egg as I dropped the other one- dog loved it)

very tasty and as you say very filling- in fact If I had the 2 eggs I would probably half the sweet corn.
very quck and easy homemade lunch
