Poor you! That would SO suck to have old auntie flow in town for surgery! What a nasty embarassing pain in the bum! Luckily, I was so fat and old that I my auntie only came to visit about once a year and had already paid annual visit before my surgery date!
I saw Idahobeauty suggest that you talk to your Dr about possibly getting your birth control meds adjusted to hold off the inevitable for a bit. Sounds logical to me. :)
Best of luck with this!

i don't remember who at this moment --- but i do recall someone sharing that they had to wear a pad for surgery bc they had their period as well that day. it does suck - but don't be afriad to let your doc know!!! they usually have you strip down completely... so you'll not want to do that in your case, obviously!!!! regarding pain, i think that the banding will have your mind off any menstral cramping that would occur!!! no worries!!! :)

AF showed up like a trooper the night of my surgery. I was in the recovery room and she popped her head in a week early. It really wasn't that noticable. Just annoying more than anything. It certainly did not increase any discomfort or pain I already had.

Aunt Flow was visiting me. No biggie... thank goodness I had on a SUPER SOAKER Pad... since I peed all over the place. :) Yes, that is my most embarrassing story that I love to share with you all!

They generally ask you if you have your period and if you do they give you a giant, industrial size, hospital pad and these little sterile elastic "panties". I had mine when I had my gallbladder out. Not exactly sure why they don't want you to wear a tampon, but they don't.

Well I was "on the rag" when surgery time rolled around. First I was told I could wear a tampon. Then I was told by the hospital person (think it was the anest. nurse) that that was a BIG no-no! They say because if something were to happen and you had to be moved or taken in for more surgery or whatever, and no one remembered the tampon, it could be left in and cause problems.
So - then I was told to wear cotton panties with a big ole granny pad. I did and then was on the gurney. The OR nurse came by so I mentioned it to her. No go on the panties - - so they just had me take the pad and stick it between my legs. I don't know what happened after that. I think I was at the end of my period, so I didn't worry about it after the surgery.
Just ask when you go for pre-op, ask again when you get undressed for surgery and ask again when the OR nurse comes by!
I'm sure they have dealt with a lot more goo and gunk that a little ole period! :)

Of course Flo reared her ugly head the day of my surgery. No biggie......I wore a tampon there, had to remove it right before surgery and woke up with a HUGE PAD and gannie panties on. The nurses are so nice, cleaned me up and everything. You will have pain medsa and your period will be the last thing on your mind
