Hello there everyone my name is Staci and I am in desperate want of the Lap band surgery. I am 41 and 264 pounds and feel like I am 500 I have horrible back and Migraine's from my weight. Here is my story LOLO

I was with my husbands insurance company of United Health care and his company was being bought out from Nations Rent and then now owned by Sunbelt. So I checked a ton of times and I mean ton of times if the Weight Surgery would be covered. So needless to say I had to find a Dr that would get me in by the end of Dec well I did that and was on a roll had all my work done the pre op was scheduled and I called to check on my status well they said all was approved and I was good to go. I then got a call from some supervisor that said my claim would now be denied to due to a exclusion well I fought with her and then called back again to benefits and they said no it was a go and I was fine. I then asked her to call this mean lady and tell her that all was OK, Well needless to say she said watch this and then denied the claim with a push of a button, I could have fought this and won I am told but due the insurance being canceled on Jan 1 I had no way to do this seeing it was Dec 28 I had been on the liquid diet for 2 weeks and all it was so depressing needless to say I went into a slump and took me forever to climb out, I am now on a mission again to find a way to get the Lap Band done, today I made tons of calls the new insurance company won't cover it. I called and talked to Kim and she gave me a few ideas but so far no luck. Can anyone give me any ideas I am desperate to somehow get this weight off and I don't know where to turn.

Thanks so much for all your help

Welcome Staci! I'm sorry to hear you have gone through such an ordeal already and STILL no lapband! I don't know enough about the insurance companies to help you out there. But I wanted to let you know that I'm sending good thoughts your way and if I hear anything that might be helpful, I will pass it along. Good luck!!

Hi Staci
Welcome! And I am sorry to hear about your insurance. I went through something similar with my insurance and so I gave up on my insuance and did self pay, and to do that I had to refiance my home at a higher rate. Which sucks, but I am just happy that I was able to do that. I figured my life was my best investment. Best wishes to you.

Thanks for the warm welcome I am trying to find a way for self pay but it is so hard with two kids with diabilities I have to stay at home and then can't work so my chances don't look good there but I am not giving up hope!!!! Where there is a will there is a way LOLOL, Maybe his company will get smart and change the benefits package!!!!

Welcome to our family Staci. Being an Aussie, I am not familiar with your insurance companies, but do know that they are a royal pain in the butt for many of our b2g family. We are blessed with a different system here, although it costs a heap in income taxes and private cover.

Good luck on your journey to band land. Hang in there, you WILL succeed.

Welcome to b2g, Staci! I was self pay (no insurance) so I don't have any suggestions for you but I did want to say hello and tell you that I'll be sending good thoughts your way.

You might want to look through the Insurance Fourms to get some ideas from others who have gone thru the process you are experiencing. Perhaps someone there can offer more advice.

Good luck!

Hey Staci! I am also a Stacey, but an ey! Welcome. I don't have any words of wisdom about your insurance situation. Hopefully something will work out for you. But please do join us on the NC threads. Those girls and guys are awesome. I am not banded yet, but they have given me amazing support since joining the board. And like Wavy said, please come to one of our lunches. I went to my first last month and had a great time and really learned a lot!

Hi there and WELCOME TO B2G!!! I am sorry you had to deal with that. It really sucks. As for what to do now, if your insurance does not pay for it your only other option is self pay. In america here it will cost between 10-30k. A lot of docs do specials to get them done. And you can get package deals with some doctors to get free or discounted fills. Look around, ask the same question in your local area thread, and i am sure the answer will present itself. :) Good luck!! and see you around the boards!

Cheers

Welcome. I had to pay all but

I had to pay for all but $4500 of my surgery. I had to take it out of my TSA under medical hardship and next January I will have to figure out how to pay the $8000 in penalties and taxes. It has been real tough so I know where your coming from. I hope something works out for you. Keep your chin up and hang in there. Glad you are able to join us at B2G. it is a really great support group.
