A woman from my support group posted this and I wanted to share it here as well. If you ever need to know if a drug is safe during pregnancy, this is the site to find it on. The site is very easy to use.

****Drugs For Labor Tip!!! Important!!!!!!!****
Not trying to tell women what to do, but if you are induced during labor, please check out the drugs that they may be inducing you with BEFORE going into labor.
Please look at Cytotec for example. This is a common gel form drug that they place against women's cervixes to induce labor with. Just look at what the consequences and findings are on the use of that drug! It's horrendous, and yet they still use it!!!!!!
Please be an informed mama before allowing ANYONE - including a nurse or doctor - to put anything in or on your body, without you knowing what it is and what the risks are first. It's your body, your baby, and you CAN say no, or simply check out of the hospital (or threaten to do so) if they are persistant. Remember, you're the mama!
I know that might sound a bit over the top to some, but if I knew the risks I would RUN out of the hospital, regardless of if I was in labor or not. Bottom line, know the facts, know your body, remember that you're the mama, and it's you and your child's lives on the line!
I love you ladies and want only the best for each and every one of you, hence my soapbox rant. I'll stop now. :)

Wow, never knew that. I was given Cervidil the night before my induction was scheduled. Then I was on pitocin for an entire day. Then cervidil again the next night and then pitocin again the following day. My uterus would just not dialate! Needless to say I had a c-section to deliver my 10 lb baby! I personally do not want to be induced again but will definitely remember this for the next go around. Rather than scheduling another c-section, I plan to try for a VBAC, naturally, if at all possible. Thanks for this info Kelly!

You're welcome Alicia! Did you see what it said for Cervidil?
It's a class C, and says:
*Studies on animals show adverse effect and toxicity on fetus.
*No adequate and well controlled studies done on pregnant women.
*Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus
And yet they still use these drugs on women everyday! It makes me so angry that I'd like to spit!

You ladies are so welcome.
I never want to come across as a know-it-all, or like I'm trying to push my views on anyone else. I just am really passionate about wanting other mamas to know EXACTLY what they are getting themselves into before making an informed decision. (On drugs, induction, etc.)
I have read so many stories on my c-section support group of women's doctors who have not only pulled some really sh***y stuff on them, but who also went into things blindly - because the doctors and nurses weren't doing their job in letting them know the risks vs. benefits. I would really hate for anyone to have to go through that.
I have really been doing my research and studying this time around (religiously), and to be honest with you I've been met with a lot of snotty comments and "Well, we'll just have to see" comments, and also got the distinct feeling from my old OB that I wasn't supposed to know as much as I did. HHHHMMMMMM Makes one think, doesn't it.
It makes me so furious that doctors think that they can rule my body, and that they can MAKE me do or not do something. Please do not ever forget ladies that it's YOUR body and YOUR baby, and if you have to remind them that you are the one paying them to take care of YOUR NEEDS, then do whatever you have to do.
I will try to start a thread in this section about birth related statistics and support groups for different pregnancy related subjects as well. Anything that I can do to help educate, inform, and just plain old be a friend to someone, I am more than happy to be doing it. I honestly wish that I had had someone who was willing to share the same information with me that I intend to share with the mommies on here. It would have saved me a lot of heartache and troubles in the end.
Ok. Again, I'll leave it at that. I don't want to offend or scare anyone away, but I won't lie that I am very passionate about helping women to learn the truth, then of course they can make the decisions for themselves.
Lots of Love, ~Kelly
