After finishing my huge Rainbow Roll while reading posts, a thought hit me. Some people say they can't do rice with their band. Anybody have luck eating sushi with the band? I know sashimi wouldn't be a problem, but what about rolls? I LOVE fancy sushi rolls and they're actually good for you, but I wonder if I'll have to forego the rice once I'm banded. Any experience with it would be greatly appreciated!

When my family goes to the local Japanese restaurant... I look at the sashimi my wife and daughter are eating, and I think...

Boy... that would be great if they threw it on the hibachi table and cooked the damn stuff.

Don't even get me started on the stuff with Roe... I mean, comeon, fish eggs?

YUCK:yuck: :puke:

I used to think that, Paul. Then my sister snuck a California roll on my plate and I said fine, I'll try it but I won't like it. I haven't turned back since! Now, I'll eat things that she won't even eat! I LOVE the stuff!
My problem now is getting full. I don't unless I eat a lot of it, but that's why I want the band! I am SO HAPPY to hear that people do still eat it! I think sushi would probably be one of those things that even if it was difficult I would still eat because I love it so much. I will have to train myself not to stick a whole piece in my mouth at a time. When the rolls are really big, I have tried biting it in half and it usually just falls apart and falls off the chopsticks. I guess I'll just have to deal with it! Sushi rules!

My fave is what I just had for lunch, a Rainbow Roll. It is Shrimp tempura, snow crab, avocado inside; tuna, salmon, white fish, yellowtail, shrimp, and roe on the outside. When you get it in the restaurant, the presentation is beautiful! This place also has one called a Lover Roll that is eel, mango, spicy salmon, salmon skin, tempura flakes, snow crab inside; masago and tuna on the top. Places around here like to name their specials after the area. There is Asheville rolls, North Carolina rolls, Buncombe rolls (that's the name of our county), Pisgah rolls, and Blue Ridge rolls. So far, I don't think I've had a combination that I didn't like! My favorite basic roll is the Philly. Salmon and cream cheese. Mmmmmm! I'm getting hungry again just thinking about all the different combinations!

I have no problem with sushi, and I often buy a handroll for lunch. Well, two, but I eat 1 and a half, lol. Eliza loves sushi too so I share it with her.

I adore the stuff....and look forward to being able to get by with one hand roll or perhaps six small rolls. I am a pure piglet when it comes to that stuff. My fave is salmon skin roll...but any hand roll floats my boat. Ymmmmmmmm. Can't wait for the mushes to be over with.

It's great to read this thread - a favourite treat with one of my workmates is to head out to SushiSushi (it's so good, they named it twice!) for a lunch of handrolls.

I usually get 4 at the moment (what a guts!). Cutting to 1 or 1 and a half after banding would be fine by me, as long as I can get a "fix". (I'll save lots of money too!) They do great lunchboxes of mixed small sushi - I might have to get into those instead! I love the smoked salmon ones the best. Also like roast duck, California , and chicken terriyaki. Love nori rolls too - they tend to be softer inside and are wrapped in bead curd, not the too chewy seaweed!
